Is Fallout 76 any good now? I'm a massive fallout fan, but with the backlash and blatant cash grab p2w game that 76 launched as I never touched it. Has it changed, or is it still garbage?
Is Fallout 76 any good now? I'm a massive fallout fan, but with the backlash and blatant cash grab p2w game that 76 launched as I never touched it. Has it changed, or is it still garbage?
does it have vats? how does that work
Yeah, just in real-time
VATS is Aimbot in this game rather than actually stopping time and showing a cinematic of you killing the enemy. Here you just click Vats and AIMBOT is enabled for a few seconds.
You can also guarantee crits.
Manual crits were in Fallout 4, too
No. It still isn't. In fact i'd say it's even worse. Adding npcs to the game was garbage, now literally the very first npc you meet in the game as soon as you leave the vault is an interracial dyke couple.
The game had fun explortion before but due to always being online the lag was unbearable and the grinding was terrible, nothing regarding that changed. All they did was add NPC stories which are not really good or interesting, it's just more content for the people that already played it 24/7.
Also it's full of hackers that can instakill you if you try to engage in PVP, and cowards who actually do engage in pvp without hacks only to alt + f4 when they are about to be killed.
I liked seeing people's bases though, lots of people have pretty houses! Found a dude one with a trailer park that had a live love laugh sIGN on the front.
More of a bug-riddled cash-grab than ever
Stay away
>fallout 4 without mods and and constant latency because always online
why didnt todd made fallout 77?
He's too busy making skyrim 2
I haven't played it in over a year now but I have put 500 hours into it and it's really fun if you're into building, and the map is probably the best 3D fallout map yet. Everything else is your typical boring bugged fallout.
Does your base get attacked?
That was really the funnest thing about fallout 4 for me, building bases and defending them
I think the more turrets you put on your base the higher chance it'll be attacked
>Is Fallout 76 any good now
no
its kind of like ESO where it might be an okay time waster if you genuinely have extremely low standards for video games and you're okay with being treated like a second class citizen when you arent subbed to the monthly service and are nickel and dimed for every cosmetic and you're playing the most soulless fanfiction version of the much better IP that the game is based upon
there is still extreme desync/latency issues, the game runs like shit, is still buggy, is like a bad mmo in all but name, and is "fallout" at its worst, like todd basically said frick it and started letting anybody who played a fallout game for 5 minutes write the lore
best case scenario, fallout 76 gets handwaved away and quietly made non-canon unlike the ESO gays that abuse all the DRAGON BREAK UNRELIABLE NARRATOR tools that TES has to desperately pretend their shit is meaningful
>ESO gays that abuse all the DRAGON BREAK UNRELIABLE NARRATOR tools that TES has to desperately pretend their shit is meaningful
how to kill a lore. We've seen where does it lead with wow
Except wow doesn't have dragon breaks. So, pretty much jailer story ruined all of warcraft.
They didn't redo the whole engine to make it actually work online so no it still sucks to play
I played it for about 150 hours.
Bought it for $13.
I feel I got my value out of it.
Everyone playing it is autistic though. Very hard to make friends.
Can you play it casually as a solo experience? Is there any story or is it just an online rooty tooty shooty game?
You can definitely play casually. I mean there's a meta where you join a public group and then just do whatever you were going to do by yourself. That way you'll get group xp but not have to interact at all. But it isn't necessary. Most people are just doing solo shit
Casual and solo is ideal for 76 imo. There is story, but it isnt all that important or interesting (the vanilla story anyway). I honestly had fun with the game even back at release when it was super fricky and constantly breaking. The map is huge and there is a ton to explore and salvage. Placing your own camp nearly anywhere was a fun dynamic even if a bit unimportant. Most of the (vanilla, pre-updates) story is lowkey terminal reading and soundtapes rather than the usual npc's and quests like normal bethesda games. The updates brought in the npc/questing more, but the main game is mostly exploring and finding out what happened to the region which I found intriguing enough to keep playing. Coop play is not really worth it outside of the bonus from being in a group. Actually adventuring together in the open world is rather shit. There are a few more challenging group content but those are few and far between.
If you know you already like the bethesda fallout games and are OK with not having any major mods for them, 76 is a fine enough experience if you can pick it up cheap. If you get your thrills from sex mods and OP modded gear, then stay away.
That being said there's some good mods for 76. New radio stations are great and you can get mods that highlight shit in the world for you like blueprints or bobbleheads or whatever
My favorite part of fallout 4 was the way they implemented power armor. Love that it's like an exo suit that takes cores to power and you need to invest heavily to use it properly. Is it like that in 76?
Yeah, to an arguably bullshit degree. There's a ton of rng when it comes to finding parts you want.
What do you mean to a bullshit degree? As in it's just too hard to find the parts you need to make a power armor build?
There's so many different modifiers that are randomly assigned to loot that a bunch of the stuff you find won't match the build you're going for. So not only are you fighting rng for the modifiers you want, on the parts you want, you're also sifting through regular non-power armor that you want none of
You'll like it to an extent if you just want to explore another world like FO4, this one being a bit more alien if i remember correctly
The graphics are so bad they hurt my eyes. Either textures decide they're not gonna render or everything looks like it's covered in oil, wtf is that even about
We'd have elder scrolls 6 by now if they didn't waste resources on 76 and eso that nobody would ask for. Greedy fricks trying to get in on games as a service pie. I love bethesda game's lore and shit, but god fricking damn if it isn't a greedy company
Total garbage
>stash limit
>building is highly stripped down from FO4
>storylines consist almost entirely of killing X at location Y
>events are ruined by level 500 Russians killing everything in half a second
>multiplayer is non-existent otherwise
>balance is FUBAR
>perk card system sucks ass
>repair system is unfair
I'd give it a 3/5, game is fun for a while.
only if you have no taste. a friend recently nagged me to try this when it went on sale for $10. it was cheap as shit and i still want my money back. all it did was make me go reinstall fallout 4 with mods so i could play an infinitely better version of the same game.
>no mods
>whole map sounds like downtown boston with gunfire going off constantly
>stupid player houses that are never EVER a post-apoc shack but instead some kind of nuka-cola meme tower that blights the landscape
>if you log in and another player's camp is too close to yours, yours gets deleted until the next time you relog or until you decide to move the whole camp
>no mods
>you have to pay $10 a month to have storage space in a game that's all about collecting loot and storing scrap
>servers can't handle the game; the more players in close proximity, the longer the delay on every action you take. bullets fire but don't hitreg until 1-2 seconds later at times
>if you want to fix this you have to pay $10 a month to play always-online-anyway version of offline mode
>VATS is just an instant aimbot where you spam your fire button
>terrible graphics. i'm not sure shadows exist in the game. literally uglier than fallout 3 with the same janky animations from 4
>in-game store in a paid game
>in-game store doesn't leave you alone. always a new "!" on your UI somewhere trying to sell you shit
>lore is the most broken to date in the entire series. takes place just 20 years after the bombs but all of the factions from FO3 and FO4 are already on the scene using all of their iconic equipment and armor so that they could reuse assets
>braindead difficulty; roughly equivalent to FO4 on normal or lower at all times.
>must pay $10 per month for a custom server so you can change the difficulty and none of your progress carries over to the "real" servers
>DAILIES
>CURRENCIES
>MORE DAILIES FOR MORE CURRENCIES
>WEEKLY CAPS ON DAILIES AND CURRENCIES
>skins like picrelated... exist
>no mods
DO NOT BUY.
>>MORE DAILIES FOR MORE CURRENCIES
CAPS ON DAILIES AND CURRENCIES
Forgot about that kek, how many currencies are in the game now, five?
Reputation
Gold
legendary Scrip
Legendary modules
Legendary cores
stamps
Vault steel
caps
And the new nukaworld on tour update will introduce nukacade points
Plus scrap which is kinda like currencies.
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!
>stripped physics engine for MP performance
>abilities like pain train in power armor can't ragdoll enemies anymore because of said performance limitations
>enemies like bandits and mutants no longer have conversations with eachother while you're sneaking nearby
>random events/interactions/spawns don't exist anymore; everything is a fixed circular event on the map
>neutered enemy interactions and surprise spawns; no feral ghouls crawling down from ruined buildings like spiders to ambush you like FO4
>no dogmeat or companions in general
>every quest in the game is go to X location and kill Y enemy or kill X enemies with Y-type weapon
>no laser muskets
>endgame is build-smurfing RNG loot to maximize dps percentages like a typical shit MMO instead of letting you build a thematic character
i could probably keep going but honestly just think of it as a FO4 beta or alpha with server latency and a cash shop glued to it
so its basically an extremely shitty fallout mmo
yes and that's being very generous because it's a worse fallout game than 3, 4, or NV on its own merits at the baseline.
fo76 is a time, base building, and inventory management simulator. The combat is not difficult, however, completing all the tasks you need to complete in a timely manner is potentially difficult.
It is much more interesting than most games out there. and it is continuously being updated.
basically, you will get to a point where it will be a bit frustrating and you will want to buy fo1st to make the game more convenient. You can play without it, though. just gotta play smart and not pick up everything.
I still do all the score challenges and complete all the scoreboards and continue to do so.
I found it really enjoyable, and I'm a fan of the whole series since 1. If you liked vanilla Fallout 4, than you'll probably enjoy 76. The map is big and fun to explore, with lots of verticality, and the enemy variety is definitely a step-up. Basebuilding is condensed but overall much better than 4.
Obviously it sucks that it's always online, since you have to deal with the regular gamebryo jankiness you would expect, on top of shit netcode. Companions aren't really a thing, and I think that was the only thing 4 really had going for it.
I put 500 hours into it. Towards the end of that I definitely felt burnt out, and was just logging in to do daily chore shit. Stay out of that loop and you'll get your money's worth.
they're adding an ammo box with unlimited ammo storage for fo1st members in December.
>for fo1st members
stop shielding the game from OP with euphemisms. the more accurate way to say that is that they're adding an ammo box with unlimited ammo storage for $10/month; acknowledging the problem with their storage systems but still locking the solution behind a monthly fee.
fo1st keeps the game going. im rich i don't really care, obviously if you agonize over 99/year then don't get it.
Every year they have a free trial of fo1st, so if you are smart and have friends, you can pack your scrap box with huge amounts of scrap.
there's your answer from the horse's mouth, OP. pay $100 a year for a worse version of fallout 4 or you're just a poor person that should be happy to wait a literal year for a free membership event to use your storage. this is a milking machine for the dumbest variety of cows.
I'm not defending the sub in any way shape or form, but you implying it is necessary at all is extremely disingenuous. I got by just fine at release when the storage size was like 4x smaller than it is now and there was no option for increasing it. You DO NOT need to spend extra money on the subscription to play the game. You also don't need to grind the extra currency shit, you can just do the quests and be done with the story/game. Only the turbo autists grinding away at the mmo tier shit would care about the subscription. Just to experience the game for the first time and explore the world? Just ignore the sub, it is 100% not needed and only exists to milk the autists. The gameplay is barebones enough that once you experience it, you can just stop. Don't keep going, don't spend extra money, don't grind pointlessly.
Idk if you've ever looked around, but any game that does well or is remotely popular is 99.9% of the time shit on for the lulz. Tons of people start threads about "elden ring bad" and "botw bad" and people gobble it up and feed the trolls. Most of Ganker is just trolling like this, and truth be told, the only games that aren't shit on were made before 2006
No it's mmo daily grindy trash.
>No it's mmo daily grindy trash.
it's not because of base building. that requires some amount of artistic skill to do well. it's much less repetitive than, say, battlefield games. You can pretty much do anything. you can also talk to anyone you come across over your mic if you want to.
FO76 builds ontop of FO4 and adds a few more QoL changes that makes the game the typical beth game: explore, loot, and get lost while you're in the middle of a quest. Quests are better than FO4, lighting is nice - although the wet material textures are something questionable. Story isn't too bad, although a lot of the initial events that happened to the responders is ruined as a result of them shoving npcs everywhere. that said, quests do bring back the old dialogue system which is nice, allowing you to use your perks to solve some issues at times. If you enjoy FO4 for exploring and shootan then this game is no different, except for the obxious UI/popups about either the cashshop or ingame events. never really cared about basebuilding tbh
>You can pretty much do anything
Not really.
>I'm a massive fallout fan
You aren't, you're a filthy secondary if you even need to ask this question
Black person, and dare I say homosexual
hacked/legacy weapons are being removed in dec, finally. no more explosive gatling plasmas ruining events.
>Has it changed
>p2w game
What do you think, but in all honesty its "better" now that some bugs have been fixed and they added more content
If I had to be completely honest with you I advise you skip this game altogether and play the superior Elder Scrolls MMO, Fallout 76 isn't receiving much support or content, its like how GTAV is still receiving updates and expansions but RDR:2 gets nothing, in this analogy Fallout 76 is RDR2 while Elder Scrolls Online is GTAV, if you're going to give Bethesda money for an online experience then Elder Scrolls is "worth" it over Fallout 76
