I think its overrated. Its combat is mid as frick and the buffs you get feel more like NUMBER BIGGER than anything that substantially changes your playstyle. Even fricking Balatro feels like it has more variety

literally anything without some useless cringe story with black characters. Death must die, dead cells, binding of Isaac, 20 mins to die, brotato you can go on and on.

Death must die is just Hades but worse. I have 100 hours of playtime and I've literally fallen asleep during runs, since all you have to do is run and dash.

    >ROGUELITE
hey, listen, honey, boo-boo, sweetheart, whatever term you use while you jerk your wiener

The RNG Progression game you're shilling isn't a Roguelike

The general consensus has determined that "Roguelite" refers to games that make you start over when you die but let you keep some character or game progression between runs. In Hades specifically you unlock more weapons and some passive buffs, but the bulk of your power is lost when you die. Roguelite has nothing to do with Roguelike, despite being only one letter apart.

no one cares. go back to jerking off to games that look like the commandprompt window

both. I think their older games were better but it's still fun.

It's a good narrative tech demo that shows how you can tell a story in a ''''''''''''''roguelike''''''''''''' and have the deaths and progress reset to be part of the story.
The actual gameplay is very simplistic and braindead and it just gives you powerups so you can beat the game and advance the story.
    It's a story game.

Ide say that also shows how it can kinda fall apart. I beat hades for the first time on like my 6th run. This led to a ton of issues both storywise and even power progression wise. Though im not sure what the correct solution to that is. Making a huge amount of dialogue simply to note your ahead of schedule sounds like a ton of work. In 2 hecates actually notes if you beat her first try but the main thing they did is add Eris who just pissed me off since it felt really cheap. But what can ya do.

Boring as frick. Supergiant should go back to making games like Bastion and Transistor

    Relative to Supergiants other games
    Narrative is VERY WEAK
    characters are Pretty good
music is Substandard theres no RULES OF NATURE moment where the vocals of the music hit as hard as any of their previous games.
    art is VERY GOOD
gameplay is TIGHT but also very derivative
its "Roguelite" elements compared to the greats are awful

They look like tumblr placeholder art and like they took the drawings they already made and painted them ugly colors. Because that's exactly what happened.
All of this shit art was supposed to be placeholder. None of it was supposed to be these ugly dark grey colors.

There's nothing remarkable about it if you are going to view it purely through the lens of a roguelite. It's a very good game that happens to be a roguelite.

It also stands out because it excels in areas most roguelites tend to lack in such as, dialog with voice acting, narrative, art direction, and a high quality soundtrack performed in a studio by musicians with real instruments. The production quality far higher than other roguelites.

    has mass appeal, so overrated
but the biggest problem is how narrative-heavy aesthetic clashes with play-die-repeat structure
it just doesn't work, constant meetings with characters become annoying obligations rather than purposeful actions, and if you really want to engage with gameplay then you are often throttled by narration and the plot-locked progression

I thought it was well polished and okay. I mean lets be honest, it was probably the best game of 2018. Nothing else good came out that year

more like a story that throws some gameplay at you and some voice acting and characters you might seem interested in hopes of keeping you playing making you feel like its a good game.

It's got style, but beyond that it is wildly overrated. Has nowhere near enough content, especially with how many times it wants you to beat it. The problem is that anything that also catches on with women gets blown way fricking out of proportion.

    overrated
anybody who has played more than one roguelite can figure out how shallow Hades is. I'd rather play ror2 where I become god and obliterate everything only to die in one hit vs hades' boring as frick combat and shit boon system

It's a good game, if you keep playing using the heat system the game can actually get pretty rough in a fun way...the sequel is just bad

how bad is it? cant they just fix it, being an early access?

Not him but I think its fine. Better in alot of ways. The main gameplay issue I can see people hating im not including the endless "woke" or whatever BS that has caused endless brainrot and wasted words is that it feels more sluggish and the enemies are tankier. You only have 1 dash and its got a weird delay. Though alot of it is the game wants you to be less of a dash spamming maniac and more of a witch casting spells. Honestly even though I probably like 2 more I actually think the gameplay might be a slight downgrade. Still early access though so MAYBE it will get a bit better. And if you want to play like the old days the axe and dual daggers are close enough. Also its alot harder to become insanely OP since they tones down alot of the boons.

I hate every game this company shits out, bland repetitive gameplay with a veneer of "different enough to be interesting to journalists" storytelling. I'll never understand why they're as popular as they are.

I feel like this game is just forced popularity, never once have I seen anyone talk about the gameplay.
