A bit too different to compare even though they're very similar and more-or-less the same genre (FPS-RPG hybrid/immersive sim). The atmosphere is honestly better but the RPG mechanics are a lot more restrictive. In Deus Ex any approach can work even if your stats are low in this or that skill so long as you don't die. In SS2 you can't even fire a high-level gun without having level 6 standard weapons and even then it'll wear out quickly unless you have level 5 weapon maintenance. That's not necessarily a bad thing either they just have very, very different design goals in mind.
SS2 rules in terms of sound effects and feeling like you're really there in the corridors of the station. Deus Ex is the more ambitious and novel game, there's still nothing quite like it and if I could only preserve one or the other I would pick it.
I'm a Thief gay so in my head I'm always comparing SS2 and not liking it as much as I do Thief. But all three are good.
I'm inclined to say System Shock.
Deus Ex is a good game but I think it's overrated. The gameplay is not as good as its contemporaries and despite having cool story themes, the narrative is told poorly.
I find DE is still more replayable and fun to explore, but if you want a purer gameplay experience you play its direct ancestors Thief and System Shock for deeper, more focused stealth and scifi roleplaying respectively. The only gripe that I have with Deus Ex is the shooting. I get that it's more RPG-like: you choose combat so you have to deal with wonky aim adding randomness to your shots, but I'd have rather had normal purely skill-based shooting mechanics and make the weapon skills improve your damage instead.
Way better at scary shit.
not even close
SS2 is about as scary as DX unless you turn off the music
System wiener 2 needed some kind of eerie sick machine sounding dark ambient to really work it.
I never really compared them very much. It's certainly a lot harder than Deus Ex
maybe on the first playthrough. i beat impossible with psi only recently and it wasn't very hard

yes
both are crpgs which is the most overrated genre of all time
play a jrpg you dummies
No. Majority of them are third person making you look at the stupid 2000s' Jetix characters
I'd say it is more consistent and a bit streamlined, although at the cost of being shorter.

yeah and it's not even close. ss1 is also better than deus ex
they're about equal in my mind
nah
kept us waiting
Tried SS:EE today an got absolutely filtered by the UI and controls.
Can I just skip to 2 instead?
yeah you definitely can. i've played both and did ss2 first, don't regret it at all.
Sure you can
What do you mean, "Can I?" Can you stop playing one game and play a different game instead? My guess is "yes".
well some games you want to play the prequel before the sequel. but for system shock it doesn't matter much even though they are connected
What's taking System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition so long? Is it the VR implementation?
>What's taking System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition so long?
The fact the team working on it is fricking tiny.
is it supposed to be much different than SS2 redux?
it's not supposed to be similar to deus ex me thinks
Way too short.
I like most of SS2 more than deus ex, but the last third or so of the game was lame
I'm inclined to say System Shock.

Have to admit but I can't play System Shock 1 in the dark.

Favorite Fan Mission??
nope, has aged very poorly
I had no fricking clue where to go and what to do. Then the monkeys happened.
