I just did a little reading on this, weird idea for a remake and it also makes it a bit confusing as to what is canon to WA2 but I was wondering if there was a way to get the JP voices in the silent English release.
I honestly don't think so, simply because a remake is essentially dependent on the success of its predecessors while also being executed my studios who also have no sense of creativity or inspiration. Remakes are done my studios who don't have any direction or vision, simply executing what is in front of them, which is the exact definition of soulless.
If you have developers who are creative and have good inspirations and ideas then they do not need remakes, they simply make new IPs entirely.
Therefore one can say are soulful remakes an ad absurdum.
Typically I'd say this Anon is right. Most remakes are profit through nostalgia driven and that runs counter to the idea of my personal interpretation of 'soul' which involves eschewing profit for little fun details. Most of the time it seems to be just slapping on a new coat of paint and if you're lucky adding some QOL features.
However I think Neir: Replicant might pass this bar. However I never played the original so I can't say for sure. I'd say that the smoother combat isn't soul, just bringing the game to a palatable level for modern gamers. The addition of The Little Mermaid though definately was a nice addition. The campfire scene with Emil and Kaine. For truly small soulful things I love the bits of dialogue when you fall into water and the few bits where music changed in certain locations that apparently weren't in the original.
The Star Ocean Second Story remake that just came out is more soulful, they simply added mechanics/enhanced the look, but kept the story completely as is.
Literally Alter Code F

It's fantastic.
There's a slot for one more character, Luigi is coming my friends.
Why couldn't they pull off the soul-shading effect?
