It's a straight sword. Anything that gets people used to the straight sword moveset is trapping people into failure. Neither fast enough nor heavy enough to properly stun enemies when attacking.
High base damage for early game with no scaling and poor upgraded damage means that you stomp early game but will get to a point where you're just not effective.
This is doubled by the fact that most people won't upgrade a different weapon assuming that's just how it's supposed to be.
Not really,no
By the time it starts to get outclassed (sen's fortress) and you start getting into a proper build, you can just buy the fricking shards to get a +10 weapon anyway
Its a noob trap in the sense that a new player may never learn the importance of upgrading as a result. If a new player does figure out the importance of upgrading then it doesn't matter whether they use drake sword or not, because they'll understand when they need to stop using it.
>If you are playing with a guide you can't be considered new.
You have no idea how many new player guides back then recommended getting the drake sword
Clearly you've never done a suicide run for the Zweihander as a Bandit, upgraded it as much as you can, and pumped Strength. That's the Drake Sword's other problem, no scaling means someone using it won't invest in their damage stats and will be effectively stuck.
I'm going to use that shit on smough and ornstein when I get back to them. I beat them legitimately and my save got corrupted shortly after. Now they're filtering me...
Just upgrade (literally) any 2hander with basic titanite and you'll outclass it by a mile. Summoning Solaire also makes the encounter much easier since the AI can't handle target swapping that well
Basic pyromancy wrecks them, especially if you focus down Smough first. Just be patient, dodge, throw fireballs at him when you have an opening, and you'll be fine.
It stops you from internalizing important lessons about how to play the game while it's in the easy, early stages and it also drops off very, very hard. You can have a better weapon just by fricking around the Parish and upgrading, say, the Halberd, Claymore, or Zwei at Andre.
It has no scaling
i used it mostly for the ranged atack
i use RAW infusion anyway cus im pyro/paladin not your heretic chaos, just old regular cleasing holy fire to burn down sins

No. A new player can't possibly know how to get it. If you are playing with a guide you can't be considered new.

I knew about it because I saw the ign video a year before I actually got the game. only info I knew
No, because any "noob" won't get their hands on it, since 99% of people who got it looked it up online.
>DS1 straight swords
Yes
I unironically like getting it for Quaelag since every single weapon up to that point deals shit damage in comparison
>Quaelag
I always just get Mildred to kill her since I usually roll a pyromancer and take the key.

Loved the zweihander in DaS1, that and the scythe were always my go-to weapons

>Anor Londo
>still using the greatsword
