Is it stupid for a crab god to be a god of life, death and tempests and to have a cult where eating crabs is considered an holy act?

Not any stupider than any other god. Go nuts.
Seriously, this. There's all kinds of weird gods.
I have a oyster god
so no
Make the crabs they hunt giant, so it would be a challenge to the beleiver to overcome one (like killing a bear for a person in bear cult).
These.
If a god's domain should extend to life and death, then they would know more than any other that the process of life begins and ends at any time. The base instinct of every living thing is to survive, without exception. To survive you must eat, by eating you stay strong. The greater the meal, the better. By this logic eating the very symbol of your god is the greatest meal and to grow even stronger.
Rock and roll, dude
It’s actually pretty fitting. Crabs and most other crustaceans practice cannibalism semi regularly.
Makes sense to me as much as any religion. Go for it. Have some crabetic apotheosis while you're at it.

Brahma, but with crabs
If there was racism among their kind crabs would be the superior race backed by evolutionary mandate.
A crab god would be the god of Chads for his blessed walk sideways wherever they may tread.
Yes.
if the Catholic church, one of the longest lasting institutions in the world, with a billion faithful calls eating the body and blood of Christ not cannibalism and isn’t a metaphor, 100% straight up turns into just that, then yeah go nuts
It's only stupid when the gods can directly interact with mortals who can understand their forms and words, because at that point there's only a superficial power level that separates the two.
>Is it stupid for a crab god to be a god of life, death and tempests and to have a cult where eating crabs is considered an holy act?
Yes, it is very stupid. Which is what makes it an interesting and believable faith. Good job OP, I want to hear more about Crab God.
Objectively speaking, all religions are stupid. So do whatever you want.
I wouldn't call it stupid, I'd call it ridiculous. And I think that quality of ridiculousness is vital for a fantasy setting.
Yes. Next moronic question!
Without more context to go on, no, it is not stupid. They live, they die, they live in water & have protective shells so storms & weathering them are thematically appropriate. Whether or not they're sacrosanct determines how eating them is seen, but either works.
It really depends on the tone and how you use it. The Silt Verses (a podcast) has eating crab as part of a holy day. It's called The Fiddler Crab's feast, which to summarize revolves around a holy figure sacrificing himself to their river god The Trawlerman to feed his starving followers. They find his body covered in crabs eating his flesh. They eat the crabs, it becomes a holy day where people eat crabs.
You don't need to justify the why so long as you find some thematic resonance and utilize it frequently and relatively consistently. But, ya know, context too. If we're talking about modern society in the midwest of America, it's gonna be tough. Religions are odd, people are odd. Just find an aspect that feels right and push that.
