Standalone VR is shit and morons like you contribute to the death of full roomscale vr in favor of phone graphics. Standalone isnt real VR its the modern equivalent to google cardboard
ok thank you
Sorry that seemed mean op but you will get ten times more use out of your VR headset if you upgrade you PC, no point of going into VR if not, you are missing out on a massive library
no problem. i dont know much about VR so it's why I wanted to ask and everybody else seems to shill zucks device. I will probably just end up saving money for a better gpu and get whatever headset comes out in the near future. What would you say is the best setup currently?
Op you should be good with a i5 or i7 + 2060/3060 2070/3070 and higher are great for VR so basically any midrange can play pcvr
Thanks anon. What would you consider mid-range? It seems like that phrase has lots its meaning overtime. Would something like a 10 series card be good for something like Alyx?
But you can stream games to quest as well either with cable or over wifi. It works really well.
this. vr development is going backwards because of these quest fricks. i hate mark zuckerburg and i honestly hope he gets whats coming to him for ruining such an awesome industry with his greed
This is why VR will remain niche. Nobody want to spend a gorillan dollars on a headset and pc where you need an entire dedicated space.
VR was never made for a mobile phone processor, the fact it can is cool and should be left at that, standalone graphics will age so poorly, its massively holding back VR when the most popular headset it essentially a phone strapped to your head, when everyone is developing for low end. Its like if people still kept making games for the ps1 even though theres been a PS5 for sometime
>its massively holding back VR
VR headsets aren't mobile phones or the newest useless designer item so people aren't going to blow money on that the same way that they would those items every year or so. AAA groundbreaking graphics on VR made by huge publishers is not going to happen if the market for it is still niche. Not many people own a gpu powerful enough to give you that experience let alone something like a full index setup. VR has to appeal to the lowest common denominator for now.
I understand that, but why massively hamper the experience for accesibility? Im not saying the invention of standalone is bad, but only the sole focus of it is holding VR back, ever since the quest 1 and abandonment of the Rift S the only other real PCVr focused headset we've had is the index and that was in 2019. If companies werent so focused with cramping a mobile processor in the headsets, we couldve proably already had very lightweight, high res HMDs. But we are stuck with fresenel lens and just now only seeing upgrades to pancake lenses across VR, it wouldve have taken so long if the internals werent also a focus (xr2 and all its cooling needs space)
>This is why VR will remain niche
good. vr doesnt need corporate claws in it. there is enough shovelware as is
>NOOOOO WHY PEOPLE DO NOT DOUBLE DIP GORILLION BUCKS ON MEGA PC, ON TOP OF EXPENSIVE GOGGLES!?!?!
Shitting on standalone VR will kill VR faster
>Shitting on standalone VR will kill VR faster
how? we reject shitty mobile tier games like the quest is pumping out.
Its a fricking simple equation of supply and demand.
People on Quest did not just chosen cheaper VR, they did so because they didn't want sensors shit up the room, upgrade PC in most cancerous GPU scalping period ever AND pay more for VR.
Without that there would be no extra demand for VR games.
Games that do not require massive modeling department, because they do not need them in VR as long as it has good artstyle and detail budget.
Now if you take those Quests away, you only have a fraction of population that has specs for PCVR (lol Steamcharts) and they have also high standards.
So you have 2 options
>make expensive games (that WILL be pirated) for small audience
>quit VR
Without bacteria in dirt you will have no trees and animals.
Why not just makes games with a VR option?
Like cool, just add VR cam, motion controls and whatever other controller specific shit you can add
>makes games with a VR option?
the console contract won't allow it to ship VR only for some platforms, for example xbox doesn't support any VR
This is not exactly a profitable endeavor.
Most of the games that do this were just made by small companies testing the waters.
The testing of the mode alone is very taxing.
It takes time to create a VR mode just so that 10% of VR users play it, so why bother wasting resources, time and money
>so why bother wasting resources, time and money
because video games are supposed to prioritize fun and innovation. when did companies forget that?
>It takes time to create a VR mode
Serious Sam devs tried really hard to put VR in all of their SS games, but in the end it wasn't profitable and they closed the entire VR development
holy shit learn how to type proper english. there are other pcvr headsets with inside out tracking. (if you even know what that is) also this "its so expensive" excuse is such bullshit. i paid $130 for my headset. get fricked
this is moronic lol
graphics do not matter when it comes to vr, what matters is a good artstyle and good gameplay
VtolVR looks like a ps1 game and its far the best game ever made for VR
ok lets take bonelab as an example.
>boneworks
pcvr only and is a solid title
>bonelab
scaled back level design with less enemies on screen and smaller cramped hallways overall a poorer quality product to be able to run on quest.
this is an example of quest holding back something that could of been great.
oh so you are moronic
boneworks and bonelab are trash
they are dogshit games made by literal homosexuals who played Half Life 2 for thousands of hours yet learned all the wrong lessons from it
>b-b-but mods will save it
lmao
>ass mad homosexual cant read
yea that what i'm saying bonelab wasnt good. whats a game you like?
Yeah it's shit but I stream wirelessly from my beefy PC to anywhere in my house without any issues with these.
If I had to wear a have it wired and set up base stations I would never use it.
quest 2 is a lot of fun and you can play pcvr games just fine on it
>NOOOOOO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND YOU NEED THE 4 FRICKING OBELISKS SET UP IN EACH CORNER OF YOUR ROOM OR ITS NOT GOO
what exactly is the problem? you can just as easily play shit like skyrim vr or whatever you want on your Quest 2 if your computer can run it. i know because im currently fricking doing it. All of this bullshit you morons spout that force a 1k+ entry fee makes no sense and isnt required in the least.
So how does it work for game that can't run on quest in "standalone" mode? You can just connect it to your pc and let the pc run the game instead?
Also, opinion about getting a second hand one?
Yeah, basically
This is how VR works by default.
Quest also gives you option between hooking to your PC by cord, or by wireless connection to WIFi router.
As long as you can splurge on one without being worried that one controller is damaged, go for it.
Since you don't need a powerful PC, I bought a fresh one with my pathetic Eastern European wage.
I see thanks
yes either wirelessly or through wired. let me tell you playing an open world game like fallout or skyrim with no wires holding you down and full freedom of movement is fricking magical
>can just connect it to your pc and let the pc run the game instead?
yes on Quest2 you will even see the PC home as you do in for the CV1, you don't even have to be on the same account, I used a FB linked quest2 to play games on the original Oculus account on PC
>standalone isn't room scale
lol this moron has never tried standalone
I don't care for standalone headsets but now I regard wireless as mandatory, now we just need less bulky and heavy headsets and regarding hardware VR will be in a very good spot.
Phone graphics? Or you could just wirelessly play games from a PC over 5G...
Standalone is fine. The problem is that these frickwads keep releasing a closed ecosystem every time instead of adhering to open standards so you're stuck with inept corporate solutions. The tracking systems on these controllers can't be that incompatible for instance.
Fair, but we're running into the same problem as smartphones with companies selling you devices you practically don't own with an incredible amount of planned obsolescence.
Companies profit off of the stagnancy of console interface methods. If they drastically shift the market then they would have to hire creative talent to keep up with new demand. The gyroscope went unused for most of the PS4's lifespan because companies did not want to rock the boat.
if you can't run PCVR then just don't get VR honestly, the best VR games are no on standalone VR
Its a 3yr headset i sold mine 6mo ago after 6mo having it. Will be lucky to get any new vr headset worth a damn after meta shitting up the entire ecosystem
>meta shitting up the entire ecosystem
how is meta shitting the ecosystem when you can install any mobile gacha apk or use virtual desktop or any other PC streamer
Killed developers by basically forcing tentpole games to run on the aio q2 like boneworks 2. Devs ran a mile scared away from vr
Fb lost billions 20+ on meta shit
>pc is shit.
then get Quest2 for porn and general VR, 3d, stereo videos, Quest3 won't make it better unlesss it can play 12K AV1 or something
>notably good native Quest 2 games
re4 vr
into the radius
twd saints and sinners 1 and 2
blade and sorcery nomad
beat saber
ancient dungeon
doom 3 vr
half life vr
superhot vr
contractors
pavlov
bonelab
moss 1 and 2
until you fall
after the fall
green hell vr
amogus
zenith
gta san andreas (upcoming)
walkabout mini golf (yes really)
etc.
>native quest 2 cooming
deovr for slr
other vr porn websites
If this sounds worth the price of admission I would go for it. However, if you ever upgrade your PC the quest 2 becomes more valuable as you can simply play pcvr games and stream it to your headset with no noticeable latency. otherwise you could get a cord if your internet cannot stream it properly.
>notable pcvr games
skyrim vr
morrowind vr
half life alyx
fallout 4 vr
subnautica vr
borderlands 2 vr
borderlands 3 vr mod (upcoming)
half life 2 vr
no mans sky
asgards wrath
la noire
minecraft
re2 and re3 remake
etc
>pcvr cooming
koikatsu
honey select
at this point if that sounds good it comes down to your budget. its your choice anon im not going to try to give subjectivity. look at the list and decide for yourself.
Thanks game recommender
What do you think bout Pistol Whip?
its a fun rhythm game but its pretty hard
>tream it to your headset with no noticeable latency
I can notice the latency compared to CV1, also you will see compression artefacts, but for playing porn it's not that important because I see compression artefacts in the videos all the time
this is going to be huge when psvr2 comes out
If, it supports it, big if.
Why wouldn't it? Dreams already supports PSVR.
lol
?
creating shit in this game is such a fricking chore that I would just rather learn how to create stuff in unreal engine or something. It ruins the entire point since it was supposed to be intuitive enough so that anybody could crank shit out quickly.
>psvr2
no DOA VV, no Deracine, no Danganronpa or One Piece, no anything from the psvr
gpu scalping completely killed VR
what used to cost 300-400 usd at most is now 1200 usd entry fee
the only vr I have ever tried was a shitty samsung gear vr with an android phone on my face. I wonder how different the Quest 2 is.
It's obviously much better lmao you have to be a giant moron that it will be the same
>mfw 99% of the population has no concept of pixels, resolution or fov so they will think it's the same
you sound like a gay
>how different the quest 2 is.
it's entirely different because the headset tracks it's position and everything is scaled to the real world size
I would have picked it up if I didn't read that the quest 3 is already on the way and i'm not paying 399 for it either.
>quest 3 is already on the way
>The Meta Quest 3 will be announced in late 2023 and ship in early 2024
assuming no delays you still have a while
Last time It was the chinks doing a fricksie woopsie on supply chain.
I wouldn't count on Q3 early batch not being a prone to break rushjob.
My Quest2 is safe.
That and Carmack is gone, who knows if sideloading will be a thing.
Well
I'm sure there will be a lot of people CONSOOMing the quest3, so might as well buy 2 used for half of that after release.
