The Linux Desktop is the canonical waste of time in the realm of computing sphere. You can meticulously customize and modify your distro but you will always encounter issues that you would avoided if you just used Windows.
      Stick to Windows.

I think this used to be true but lately I've installed a few different distros and it's been amazing how little I have actually needed to customize them and how well they've worked on different machines. not everyone is into it for autistic ricing, some people just want something quick and free that works

It's the opposite when coding. I've used Windows, Mac, and Linux extensively throughout my career using different languages, and Linux is just so much easier for everything when installing dev tools, dependencies, and building executables.

For gaming though, Windows is still unmatched. That being said, I predict Linux will become the true gamer OS over time as Windows caters more and more to tablet and phone gays.

Can update everything on my PC at the same time.
Don't have to deal with Apple/Microsoft shit.
Better compatibility for a lot of older games.

Windows 10/11 randomly roll out untested patches that break systems, delete applications, hang laptops on startup, et cetera. I've fixed enough bullshit on other people's machines that I'm never going to use it. I'm done. Linux basically wins by default. I've run it exclusively for years now with no issues. Old game compatibility was the only thing keeping me on Windows but then they fricked that up too.

Had that on mine because it automatically downloaded drivers for hardware i didnt use.

Just get Arch. I know the old meme is that people get recommended Arch and they hate it but it's well documented, will generally have the up-to-date software you need to do what you want and you'll be creating most of your own problems so the coinflip of whether you'll be able to find the cause of your issues is a bit more in your favor.

The Linux Desktop is the canonical waste of time in the realm of computing sphere. You can meticulously customize and modify your distro but you will always encounter issues that you would avoided if you just used Windows.
      Stick to Windows.

The problem is that the reverse is also true but you will always hit the wall in Windows that affirms that the OS isn't truly yours to do with as you want.

Is there a single reason to use linux over windows/mac os besides privacy?

      Serious question

I can mostly adjust the user experience to match what I want. Windows has been continuously been moving towards more layers of user unfriendly design in the interest of making it less intimidating to the computer illiterate.
It just doesn't really take advantage of the fact that Windows is in theory one unified environment wherein they have full control of the design so there's no real upside over something more mismatched.

It has one job not let anything do anything without my fricking say and it does it every time. its stopped "critical google updates" that apparently ran every time i booted up the computer shits great. When i upgraded to 11 from 10, it broke my cooling fan and my cpu was getting up to 90 degrees C idling. I made sure my drivers were updated and there were no background programs running that would cause it to run.

Nothing. I replaced my liquid cooling fan and it still overheats. I down graded back to 10 and its just doesn't work and updated the drivers and nothing improved. I tried taking to get fixed but at this point im better off just getting a new machine. It essentially bricked my machine.

no, wait a few years until the pozz is removed as much as possible by the community and to not be a guinea pig and get fricked by updates like many w10 early adopters did. Everything works on w10.

Nah it's a shitty phone meme OS. it's not for computers.
It starts by blocking you from installing anything and trying to lock you into only using aps from the Microsoft store. you need to make a Microsoft account just to install programs on your own frickig computer.
it's really good at fricking up and obfuscating previously simple core functions.
can't even copy and paste without going through 2 fricking menus on that piece of shit.

Went from 10 to 11 and for the first time in decades of using Microsoft products, everything "just werked" after upgrading, no driver bullshit or random bluescreens. There doesn't seem to be any noticeable performance difference compared to 10, but the UI in general looks nicer and more consistent.

just a scam to trick big business into paying a monthly sub for access to windows
microshit have been saying for years now they want to switch everything to a subscription model
    dont wanna pay?
no problem, but you'll be unable to launch non-approved .exe files until you pay goyim
people already pay a monthly sub to use Office and Excel

    >b-but what about home users and gamers?
    literally 1% of the market
they were only ever interested in companies having to fork over $50k/month in subscriptions to keep their IT shit working
t.i work in a hotel and we're already subjected to this shit on the PCs at work
