>last settlement on earth that's gone to shit
>OH NO YOU MADE CHILDREN WORK FOR TWO HOURS A DAY YOU MONSTER!!!!!1!
There's nothing wrong with children working. It's good for them to learn the family business. Obviously back breaking slave labor like poor african kids mining cobalt for hipster gays electric cars is bad, but making little Timmy take care of the animals or store or whatever for 2 hours isn't bad at all.
This exact discussion is why the game was made lmao
The devs want people to think about philosophical topics like this
>common sense = philosophy
I disagree with the family business aspect. I hated working for my family's business when I was around 12-14, but as soon as I was allowed to get a normal place (I'm personally gonna recommend my kid start at a fast food place), I made a lot more friends, got laid, and generally just developed a better work ethic
you dont need child labor to complete any part of the game
Children can also still contribute with engineer work/ medical work without taking a discontent penalty but it should be obvious sending kids to work in coal mines isnt ideal
there should be consequences to easy access to labor
Never seen how effective it is since i usually die in the storm or some days before it
kids can speed up things earlier but it pretty much crosses the moral line(and the game doesn't tell you if you crossed it or not)
robots need charging but don't need to feed nor sleep, but need upgrades to be on par with a full working crew
"crossing the line" doesn't matter in the end, it's a self inflicted challenge, plus canonically the captain goes the evil route
Child assistant are pretty good throughout the game because it repurposes an otherwise useless group of citizens, even if the boost isnt that big its still something and can make your reasearch go a lot smoother
Automotons don't care how cold the place is either. Easy to miss how that factors into their efficiency compared to humans.
>can build 100 fighting pits
>can only build 1(ONE) pub
Everyone in the city can use the one pub though. You don't need more.
That's not one city anon
>just put children to work in high intelligence fields
more to the point high inteligence fields where it's vital nobody gets anything wrong
they're assisting hands not fucking surgeons you retard
Hospital maybe but I wouldn't let kids anywhere near engineering work
>Oh no I've been researching too hard! Staring at drawing boards is sooo strenuous and now I'm having a heart att -ack!
i always saw it as your people seeing how bad the situation is that kids have to work
The game doesn't blame you for letting children work retard, the game blames you if you send children to do backbreaking labour in literal coal mines
If all else fails, you can appease the furnace with them and their tiny hands
Why are you upset? You're literally allowed to make children labor for you. You just take a popularity hit. Are you unable to comprehend parents wouldn't like that, or something? You silly autist
it was fun for 2 hours
what are your thoughts on the DLCs?
Last Autumn is godly
On The Edge was a disappointment as the final content, much less went into it than LA's.
it's hard and has a great atmosphere
but everyone is FUCKING BRITISH who are also very retarded for opposing child labor, EVERYONE'S GONNA FUCKING FREEZE TO DEATH GODDAMN IT
No it's casual goyslop disguised as a mediocre city builder.
12 bucks wasted. If it can be torrented, do it. And buy yourself some snacks to play it with for the twelve.
worth a pirate at least
Torrent for free and enjoy with $12 pizza or something.
I watched a short the other day where a guy in the UK said he paid 25 pounds for a normal Domino's pizza, which I think is around $30. Here I can probably get a large one for half the price
Idk what are anons talking about, i did child labor from time to time when temperatures were bearable and had my hope bar full and discontent empty. Its a fun and challenging experience that i didnt find in any other 4x.
It has the British
Worse, you are charged with ensuring those British survive.
not really, its like a really easy to solve puzzle game
i didn't feel like im building anything, if you want a solid city builder get into the anno series
BUT AT WHAT COST
Ignore the unhelpful autismos bitching about child labor.
Game's not worth it, even on sale.
It's pure artificial sense of progression. Every obstacle you'll encounter will always trigger at the exact same time so once you memorize the events and preemptively prepare for them you've pretty much trivialized the game.
It's a "city builder" on rails. You essentially play the path that the devs intended, because any deviation from it leads to a game over.
It's carried hard by its atmosphere
Go look up a vid of someone playing it, you can easily decide if it looks like something that will keep you or not from that
It looks pretty fucking basic. Better off playing other builders like Anno or even Two Point Hospital/Campus
The morality system can be a little heavy-handed in how it judges your end results, but beyond that I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Good atmosphere and some tense decision making. There isn't a huge amount of room for experimentation, but it's a city sim that brings a strong sense of atmosphere and tension because the oncoming storms basically feel like you're prepping towards major boss fights that can only be survived through a battle of attrition.
Had a fantastic Christmas evening getting smashed and watching a friend play this. The music is pure kino, and I can't emphasize this enough, needs to be played with good headphones or speakers.
Funniest part was my friends purposely spiralling down the authoritarian governance and barely scraping by. He had to promise the citizens free wood to survive the last frost, ran out of stock but still succeeded. Though there definitely would have been a fucking riot outside of the Captain's quarters. Got an achievement too.
>how dare you feed people SOUP
Game's easy enough to finish without enacting the more draconian laws, even on your first playthrough. Though why would you not become a god-emperor, even if it's not necessary.
Its funny seeing the end text having nothing to call you a meanie for, and either having long pauses where it would normally list your harsh choices or just say 'well, it was hard because some people were sick at one point'
Do I remember right that even when you do all of that the game still hits you with the "But was it worth it?" at the end?
Yup, after all the scrolling messages on your feats and bad deeds, the game will say "We have/didn't cross the line"
Just doesn't adapt very well to you being a totally good boy
Worse is Winterhome, where if you let enough people die at the start so that there will easily be enough room on the Dreadnought for everyone remaining, the people and situations still talk like that's not the case and there's still fear of being left behind.
Its pretty good, worth a buy on sale or pirate
I fail to see how this game is fun and I like watching paint dry
Considering you enjoy watching paint dry, I don't think anyone should care about what you think is fun.
>is that soup ? i am going insaneee moron man save me
worth for a few hours
Having been forced to eat nothing but soup for a week, I understand them.
Soup fucking sucks.
I love soup, it fills you up without really being too heavy
For that price yeah. Game is pretty fun and it should last you for 10-15 hours.
>Gruel, sorta, but not really. It's supposed to be taking whatever food you have, putting it in a pot, cooking it, and serving people the water (hardly even broth, and thickened with flour), but instead of just doing that, you do that with the same food for several days.
>It's like a shitty broth that's mostly just hot water with some bread / filler in it that you stretch from food that would be used for one meal into several. It's a lot less pleasant than you would think from "soup". Seasonings most likely not included.
From an old thread. "Soup" was a mistranslation
I'm still not buying it. A hot bowl of anything after being outside in the freezing cold is delicious and satisfying. Even if it's a thin, mostly tasteless broth.
are you actually fucking retarded?
use your brain
imagine working 12 hour days and all you get is a thin no calorie flavourless soup
anon i think you actually have a problem
>(hardly even broth, and thickened with flour)
So... Gravy? you are drinking hot gravy. Sounds good for a post apocalyptic scenario.
As the other anon said, after multiple reuses of the same materials the liquid will thin out. However this is not explicitly stated and thus really results in wrong expectations. Logically such soup wouldn't even be viable when you're in the freezing cold and you are also working them to the bone, there just wouldn't be enough energy to keep people going. So when a player thinks logically about what "soup" could be they wouldn't think its something that ridiculous.
>"is it worth it"
I played the game maybe 4 years ago?
I still remember it and I still think it was a memorable experience
It's kino. So yes.
For how much I hear soup being memed, I'm guessing virtually no one ever took the sawdust option instead
for balancing reasons they should have made the sawdust option give x3 food if it was going to also make people sick.
I'm actually curious about this. If you add sawdust to a soup or gravy, whatever. Could it actually make you sick? It's probably doesn't have any useful vitamins but how much calories would it contain?
Sawdust is organic, but humans cannot digest it in any way that matters. It's actually really rare for an animal to be able to digest wood. Adding wood fibre to meals is worse than just adding more water to the meal.
If you got good doctors it can work well, also, the option to harvest organs from the dead to improve medical healing works even if anyone doesn't die
Yeah, you can get the sad orphan event from the cemetery even if no one's died too.
I'm expected to believe a child of that size likely 8 or 9 years old, doesn't understand the concept of death and thinks his mother is just "sleeping"?
Well in this case, considering nobody has died yet, he's right. Why he's hanging in the graveyard, maybe he's a goth.
I guess we're supposed to believe he climbed up the sheer mountain-face too like the intro shows everyone else did
>give McSawdust meal to people
>they start shitting uncontrollably and get sick
>get sent to medical
>activate Extra Rations for the Ill
>they get fed more McSawdust
and yet they some how get better!
Sawdust is ten times better than soup. Hardly anyone will get sick from it, no discontent means more 24h shifts, and its almost a must have on harder difficulties when resources are stretched extra thin.
In the description it was stated the soup was enriched with sawdust.
But who am I kidding most people here haven't even played it let alone read description of the decisions.
Check above your post, sawdust is a different option from soup, stretches food even further but makes people ill.
For 12 bucks it's great value. You have one big campaign and two smaller ones. Solid overall play time and a good building experience.
You have asked Ganker for an opinion and they largely don't like the game. By my current record, this means the game is good and you should play it.
The only games Ganker won't bitch about are visual novels, which tells you everything about the opinions on this board.
Last Autnum without pause on harder levels is the most fun I've had in quite some time.
I still don't understand why the endgame after all patches didn't include the labor laws as well so you could have double shift and shit like that in normal scenarios, hell even in the endless map for last autnum you don't get it.
I guess re-balancing would be too hard?
Lifting it straight over wouldn't make sense in the normal game since you're not a company owner employing people like you start out TLA as
wouldn't be too hard to adapt it tho.
Yeah but adding this stuff to Endless as clearly an afterthought
Settlements were pretty lazily implemented, you can still pour all the same resources and manpower into upgrading them, but it doesn't actually increase how much they can give you afterwards.
I really like it, but it has many areas it could be improved, hoping 2 will do that.
What are they making booze out of
What do you think gets grown in the hothouses for that
Literally any grain, fruit, or tuber can be fermented into alcohol. It's pretty much always the case that if you can grow food, you can make booze.
Stuff that can be fermented, or people brought in their own booze but i doubt that is likely
All we've had to eat is sawdusty soup for THREE STINKING DAYS
NEW LONDONERS SAVE ME
How the fuck are the scouts out in the snowy wasteland, with no cover and no reliable heat source, able to survive for days?
they're british, what doesn't stop them
by not being near bri*ish wom*n
THE CITY MUST SURVIVE
for me it's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-QoQjV0uLI
Hell yeah. I had a lot of fun with this game. Great atmosphere.
The workshift sounds are pretty damn motivating https://youtu.be/z7FlDgi2zRE
Isnt a thing that you dont cross the "line" as long as you keep the kids away from working in the jobs they can get killed in?
and some how building isnt a lethal job and a good argument to get the "all jobs" law?
No, 'crossing the line' requires you to go too deep into religious-fanatacism or literally-fascism
>they had to censor the cross
any mod that returns it so I can larp as Christian zealot?
was it ever about jesus christianity? I remember it being about sun worship
It's pretty obvious it's Christianity and that they wanted to avoid alienating or offending the church by swapping the icons.
The game says its some “old religion” people flocked to after abandoning currents faiths, but its clear they did it just to play it safe.
I can imagine there being headlines and controversy if they had kept it christian with all those decisions and events in place
Well you're imagining some nonsense dude, fucking headlines over an obscure strategy game having crosses in its alt-history setting
archive dot ph/20120708133732/ http://gamepolitics.com/2008/01/14/conservative-blogger-claims-mass-effect-offers-customizable-sodomy
fuckoff spam protection
>Not about a game having crosses in it
>15 fucking years ago
Fox News and others reported it as well using this as reference, it's on the wikipedia list of vidyagoym controversies
Who cares, its about ass-fucking and its from a decade and a half ago, meaningless to this
So that's the goalpost now.
The goalpost was people getting upset at christian crosses appearing in games, and you posted an old-ass article about something else entirely not even from the same internet-era
Anon, he doesn't have to post the exact same topic to make his point. Do you think Fox News wouldn't try to whip people into a frenzy if it had ammunition to do so?
Not over fucking crosses just appearing in an obscure Polish strategy game, no.
twitter morons get offended over literal who games all the time
Not because Christianity is just fucking in them.
lol, wanna bet? liberals are fucking deranged about Christianity existing. Especially because what it means to LGBT.
But to be fair, I don't think Christianity was ever planned to actually be used in this game and they changed it last minute or anything. I think they had the common sense not to make their "end-of-the-world cult" about Christ because of course they don't need to do that. Only a bitter edgelord would feel the need to do that.
it becomes "end of the world" cult if you go up far enough that law tree
Then you don't understand sensationalism or how the media literally survives on it. If the game used christian iconography, Tucker Carlson or someone else would be telling everyone we're spiraling down the drain. They don't even have to believe it's the end of the world, but they want YOU and all their viewers to consider that MAYBE it is. Or at the very least, it's a sign of an ailing world.
Fox news didn't even say shit about the ghostwire tokyo translation introducing communist rhetoric, they're controlled opposition.
there would be controversy but it sure as shit would not be coming from conservatives, it would be coming from liberals offended by the mere existence of Christianity
Anon other way around, it's Christianity haters they were afraid of offending, yes it's supposed to be seen as bad but they would get offended anyway
sorry it was badly worded, but yes; offending both anti-and-pro christians
I don't think its supposed to be Christ-worship anymore
It's alt-history anyway, as all steampunk is by default
Replace that winged symbol with a two headed eagle and it'd look about right.
Is Frostpunk a lot better than the literal chore that is This War of Mine? It's the same devs IIRC.
It is the same devs. And if you don't like squeezing by, just barely surviving, you aren't going to like this game.
>like squeezing by, just barely surviving, you aren't going to like this game.
until you get automation really roaring
then you can focus your people on hunting blimps that you DONT have to warm
Hated TWIM, loved frostpunk.
>he replaced a word with the word "shit"
holy fuck, it's over for these devs!
get used to it, dev
huh? I complimented your incredible wit. why would you think I wasn't sincere?
>ATENTION, EMERGENCY AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE. ATENTION, EMERGENCY AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE. >ATENTION, EMERGENCY AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE. ATENTION, EMERGENCY AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE.
just following the engineer path even without crossing the line is pretty easy to negate any form of accidents
God that scenario kicked my ass two times before I got it right. Fucking poison gas, everyone getting sick and made retarded concessions. Eventually went full Stalin.
Glory to the working class
fun fact, overtime rushes will only incur deaths the 2nd time it is used
If you want to stop deaths, you have to choose Food for Overtime Work. It pops up shortly after your first death.
I wish ixion was harder
didnt mean to quote
The Last Autumn > A New Home > Fall of Winterhome > The Arks >The edge > Feces > Refugees
The edge was terrible and the settlement mechanic is bad. And then you run into all these places that survive without a generator. Kind of undercuts the whole narrative they present. Still at 10/10 game for me otherwise.
>ou run into all these places that survive without a generator. Kind of undercuts the whole narrative they present
I think it was a nice way to expand on the world, it make sense some thermal site near a volcano could survive, the prissioners camp makes 0 sense, but I agree it undercuts the initial narrative of the game.
Very good intro, scenario, atmosphere and OST. Don't see the replay value others do though, one playthrough felt like a complete narrative.
>mfw got through the main campaign with the skin of my teeth and 380 dead
Yeah, my first campaign was rough. I had to cross every line and barely slid by because of it.
It's a puzzle game. If you like puzzle games, sure. Do not buy it if you expect a strategy or city builder.
You WILL eat the sawdust soup
You WILL work 16 hours in the coal mines
You WILL sacriface your children to the generator
You will own nothing
And you will be happy
>never heard of this game before
>game of the year
Did people really take the child labor and other *bad* laws. I beat all scenarios without issues as soon as I figured out thr game mechanics in the first few runs.
It makes a huge difference to get an extra building or two's worth of hands early on while playing the more brutal difficulties, try the Refugees scenario on Survivor
The people are too whiny and it becomes -40 too fast.
Does this game let me roleplay a totalitarian dictator?
Do I get to execute people myself, or at least preside over executions?
You can watch
Its fucking soup time
I’m terrible at it but found the game extremely entertaining. Some of the situations I could never succeed but still had a great time. Gf was pissed because I was so into the game
Post pictures of gf
She’s old. She’s 45 (I’m 35)
Ah, a fellow mummy chad. My ex-gf who I broke up with recently after 10 years was 9 years older than me. We got together when I was 24, she was my uni tutor. So yeah, I still want pictures 😀
Why’d y’all break up?
My gf and I love each other but idk if I’m in love with her. Feel like I’m happier when I’m single
I know what you mean. Ultimately, my love for her largely disappeared and the physical attraction also waned (she gained a lot of weight and while I'm okay with some chub, it was just too much). We tried working it out but ultimately, there just wasn't enough for a relationship anymore. I've been much happier since we broke up than the last 2 or 3 years.
I often feel like I'm just happier on my own, even though I've had multiple relationships. I think "being in love" is something you do in the first couple of years of a relationship, then it just turns to a more solid but less zealous kind of love and appreciation. You can still get a lot of passion, but well, it's different. That's just been my experience though. Maybe I just haven't met the right one yet.
Yes. I do believe it’s possible to find love that doesn’t lessen over time. I’ll probably never get married but I could see dating someone for the rest of my life. Have you found it possible to remain friends with her after separation?
Yeah, same, not looking to get married but I think I could meet someone who I want to date for the rest of my life and maybe even live with. We decided to cut contact for several months, like half a year and that's been good for me so far. What happens after that, we'll see. I think remaining friends is nice if it works, but it rarely does without unnecessary drama and I really don't want that. The other day, she spotted me waiting for the bus in public, snuck up on me and scared the every living shit out of me. It was good fun, but I had to get on the bus soon after so we didn't get to talk much.
So yeah, all in all we're on good terms, no hard feelings on either side, but factors like new partners may become a problem, probably more for her than for me.
I came in here for the Frost Punk thread but while I'm passing by your posts I've dated someone a bit younger than me for about 8 years (she's in her late 20s now) as my longest relationship so far and we had a similar affect to how the love shifted to more of a consistent feeling. It's hard for me to say if that means things are going right or wrong since you don't really get many chances to compare longer relationships against the other. We've both stayed attractive though so it's not like physical attraction changed, it's just more like things become hyper stable emotionally for better and worse. It can also just be hormonal balances shifting hugely once you age a little.
Yeah, as far as I know, the initial neurochemical cocktail that gives you this intense feeling of being in love usually lasts something like 3 years max. You can rejuvenate it to some degree by keeping your relationship exciting in different ways and getting to know your partner in new ways that you hopefully appreciate, but ultimately, for a stable relationship, you need stable neurochemistry and that is probably equivalent to this feeling of belonging, of having arrived home, of deep connectedness, of really knowing someone else etc. Often, it does however seem to turn into something more mundane and fizzles out 🙁 Ultimately, relationships are work and just existing next to each other won't do.
Man, wish relationships were as easy as video games and the devs could release DLCs to keep the relationships fresh
Yeah the hormonal balance is a big factor. Especially with women. As they get older their mood can worsen or become better. I’ve known many women who were complete bitches until 50 or so. During and after menopause their personality greatly improved and vice versa. Hell, even chicks on their period can become unbearable twats. Gf who is 45 is always a bitch while on her period so we just ignore each other that week.
I don’t know if there’s any women my age (35) that I’d want to date. Most are still pretty immature and the women in their 30s that aren’t immature are too mature for me. I’m mentally in my 50s or so when it comes to downtime. I like to stay at home on weekends and never want to travel
Nice that you two aren’t on bad terms per se. I do love my gf so it would be hard not to care about her and want to talk to her even if we broke up. I’m a hermit and my gf loves to travel. Hope she leaves me for a rich guy who can spoil her one day
Have you tried traveling and just don't enjoy it? If you haven't, or haven't in a long time, it might be worth to try. I never used to enjoy it much but I've recently taken a liking to it. It's a lot easier too when you have more income and don't have to sleep in shitty hostels and the like.
I like to have a road trip once in a while. Thank god for the steam deck lol
I think they say 5-7 years is the death spiral point you have to get past because all chemicals are gone. We had a point where we discussed and came close to separating on good terms but we kind of came to the conclusion that just might be a phase caused by your body wanting new stimuli even if it's at the expense of something good. We've passed through some terrible life moments together with flying colors so that thought kind of keeps the glue together. That and we still have a lot of chemistry it's just the 100 to 0 up and down is gone.
vidya unironically contributed to making me have a successful love life, problem solving and choices in a city builder preps you for the completely random shit that can go down.
Which of the DLC are worth getting?
You can get all the DLC for a decent price during a sale, but if you were to only pick one, I'd recommend The Last Autumn
>everyone lives above ground in some shacks burning retarded amounts of fuel with probably 0 insulation
immersion broken in three seconds, so no
Anon they're British, go easy on them
Just pirate it
>BUT AT WHAT CO-
After beating Ixion I appreciate this game much more.
is ixion just frostpunk on easy mode all the time?
Frostpunk is old and busted, IXION is the new hotness
Heard it was shit
In general it's a pretty good game, specially in the visual and audio department, but it's horribly unbalanced (against you) and the people in the ship are even more retarded than the britbongs in frostpunk
>more retarded than the britbongs in frostpunk
thanks, but for my own sanity I think I'll pass
>and the people in the ship are even more retarded than the britbongs in frostpunk
FUCKING SPACE NEETS REEEEEEEEEE
