There's nothing wrong with children working. It's good for them to learn the family business. Obviously back breaking slave labor like poor african kids mining cobalt for hipster homosexuals electric cars is bad, but making little Timmy take care of the animals or store or whatever for 2 hours isn't bad at all.

I disagree with the family business aspect. I hated working for my family's business when I was around 12-14, but as soon as I was allowed to get a normal place (I'm personally gonna recommend my kid start at a fast food place), I made a lot more friends, got laid, and generally just developed a better work ethic

you dont need child labor to complete any part of the game
Children can also still contribute with engineer work/ medical work without taking a discontent penalty but it should be obvious sending kids to work in coal mines isnt ideal
there should be consequences to easy access to labor

        >common sense = philosophy

kids can speed up things earlier but it pretty much crosses the moral line(and the game doesn't tell you if you crossed it or not)
robots need charging but don't need to feed nor sleep, but need upgrades to be on par with a full working crew
"crossing the line" doesn't matter in the end, it's a self inflicted challenge, plus canonically the captain goes the evil route

The morality system can be a little heavy-handed in how it judges your end results, but beyond that I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Good atmosphere and some tense decision making. There isn't a huge amount of room for experimentation, but it's a city sim that brings a strong sense of atmosphere and tension because the oncoming storms basically feel like you're prepping towards major boss fights that can only be survived through a battle of attrition.

Had a fantastic Christmas evening getting smashed and watching a friend play this. The music is pure kino, and I can't emphasize this enough, needs to be played with good headphones or speakers.
Funniest part was my friends purposely spiralling down the authoritarian governance and barely scraping by. He had to promise the citizens free wood to survive the last frost, ran out of stock but still succeeded. Though there definitely would have been a fricking riot outside of the Captain's quarters. Got an achievement too.

    >It's like a shitty broth that's mostly just hot water with some bread / filler in it that you stretch from food that would be used for one meal into several. It's a lot less pleasant than you would think from "soup". Seasonings most likely not included.

As the other anon said, after multiple reuses of the same materials the liquid will thin out. However this is not explicitly stated and thus really results in wrong expectations. Logically such soup wouldn't even be viable when you're in the freezing cold and you are also working them to the bone, there just wouldn't be enough energy to keep people going. So when a player thinks logically about what "soup" could be they wouldn't think its something that ridiculous.

Sawdust is organic, but humans cannot digest it in any way that matters. It's actually really rare for an animal to be able to digest wood. Adding wood fibre to meals is worse than just adding more water to the meal.

I think they had the common sense not to make their "end-of-the-world cult" about Christ because of course they don't need to do that. Only a bitter edgelord would feel the need to do that.

The edge was terrible and the settlement mechanic is bad. And then you run into all these places that survive without a generator. Kind of undercuts the whole narrative they present. Still at 10/10 game for me otherwise.

I think it was a nice way to expand on the world, it make sense some thermal site near a volcano could survive, the prissioners camp makes 0 sense, but I agree it undercuts the initial narrative of the game.

    Why’d y’all break up?
My gf and I love each other but idk if I’m in love with her. Feel like I’m happier when I’m single

I know what you mean. Ultimately, my love for her largely disappeared and the physical attraction also waned (she gained a lot of weight and while I'm okay with some chub, it was just too much). We tried working it out but ultimately, there just wasn't enough for a relationship anymore. I've been much happier since we broke up than the last 2 or 3 years.

I often feel like I'm just happier on my own, even though I've had multiple relationships. I think "being in love" is something you do in the first couple of years of a relationship, then it just turns to a more solid but less zealous kind of love and appreciation. You can still get a lot of passion, but well, it's different. That's just been my experience though. Maybe I just haven't met the right one yet.

Yes. I do believe it’s possible to find love that doesn’t lessen over time. I’ll probably never get married but I could see dating someone for the rest of my life. Have you found it possible to remain friends with her after separation?

        Anonymous

Yeah, same, not looking to get married but I think I could meet someone who I want to date for the rest of my life and maybe even live with. We decided to cut contact for several months, like half a year and that's been good for me so far. What happens after that, we'll see. I think remaining friends is nice if it works, but it rarely does without unnecessary drama and I really don't want that. The other day, she spotted me waiting for the bus in public, snuck up on me and scared the every living shit out of me. It was good fun, but I had to get on the bus soon after so we didn't get to talk much.

So yeah, all in all we're on good terms, no hard feelings on either side, but factors like new partners may become a problem, probably more for her than for me.

I came in here for the Frost Punk thread but while I'm passing by your posts I've dated someone a bit younger than me for about 8 years (she's in her late 20s now) as my longest relationship so far and we had a similar affect to how the love shifted to more of a consistent feeling. It's hard for me to say if that means things are going right or wrong since you don't really get many chances to compare longer relationships against the other. We've both stayed attractive though so it's not like physical attraction changed, it's just more like things become hyper stable emotionally for better and worse. It can also just be hormonal balances shifting hugely once you age a little.

Yeah, as far as I know, the initial neurochemical wienertail that gives you this intense feeling of being in love usually lasts something like 3 years max. You can rejuvenate it to some degree by keeping your relationship exciting in different ways and getting to know your partner in new ways that you hopefully appreciate, but ultimately, for a stable relationship, you need stable neurochemistry and that is probably equivalent to this feeling of belonging, of having arrived home, of deep connectedness, of really knowing someone else etc. Often, it does however seem to turn into something more mundane and fizzles out 🙁 Ultimately, relationships are work and just existing next to each other won't do.

Yeah the hormonal balance is a big factor. Especially with women. As they get older their mood can worsen or become better. I’ve known many women who were complete b***hes until 50 or so. During and after menopause their personality greatly improved and vice versa. Hell, even chicks on their period can become unbearable twats. Gf who is 45 is always a b***h while on her period so we just ignore each other that week.
I don’t know if there’s any women my age (35) that I’d want to date. Most are still pretty immature and the women in their 30s that aren’t immature are too mature for me. I’m mentally in my 50s or so when it comes to downtime. I like to stay at home on weekends and never want to travel

Nice that you two aren’t on bad terms per se. I do love my gf so it would be hard not to care about her and want to talk to her even if we broke up. I’m a hermit and my gf loves to travel. Hope she leaves me for a rich guy who can spoil her one day

Have you tried traveling and just don't enjoy it? If you haven't, or haven't in a long time, it might be worth to try. I never used to enjoy it much but I've recently taken a liking to it. It's a lot easier too when you have more income and don't have to sleep in shitty hostels and the like.

I think they say 5-7 years is the death spiral point you have to get past because all chemicals are gone. We had a point where we discussed and came close to separating on good terms but we kind of came to the conclusion that just might be a phase caused by your body wanting new stimuli even if it's at the expense of something good. We've passed through some terrible life moments together with flying colors so that thought kind of keeps the glue together. That and we still have a lot of chemistry it's just the 100 to 0 up and down is gone.

Man, wish relationships were as easy as video games and the devs could release DLCs to keep the relationships fresh

vidya unironically contributed to making me have a successful love life, problem solving and choices in a city builder preps you for the completely random shit that can go down.
