D3 can be fun for a week here and there. It's a breath of fresh air with how little tiresome bullshit there is but you run out of interesting things pretty quick.

D3 is just really polished compared to all other games of this ilk. I wouldn't call it a better game, it just feels better to play for the few days it holds your interest.

D3 and PoE do different things, it's not uncommon for people to like one and hate the other. D3 is a very simplistic ARPG that focuses on the action, so it's great when you want to just hop in and play around with a set of skills. Also helps that because every character has access to the same set of skills, the devs have an easier time balancing encounters. D3 doesn't really offer any decisions for the player to make in terms of his character, you just get incrementally better stuff as you play.

PoE scratches the same itch someone has for fine tuning a car or a machine, the majority of your time is spent building your character's stats through the passive tree, gem links, or items, and when you're playing the game you're constantly reevaluating your build and tweaking it. It plays like a puzzle game in some regards with the action that comes later more like an afterthought.

Both games diverged from the question "What would happen if we made a roguelike into an action game," with D3 ditching the choices for pure gameplay and PoE taking the nature of character building to its logical conclusion.

In diablo 3 you just spam aoe abilities and kill everything, find videos about the demon hunter to see the truth. As a matter of fact, D Immortal is the same as D3

Yes, silly question, it's free and one of the top ARPG on market. There is no reason not to try this game.

  5. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

I don't think it's a good game, but sure why not. It's free and the pay2win elements (most notably stash space) don't really come up if you're just going through the campaign or something to see if you actually like the gameplay. If you do like it, it's not like you're even irrecoverably behind (if you care about that sort of thing to begin with), because people mostly play seasonal, so you'd just have to wait for the next season and start from an even playing field.

Not really, the way they balance the game is shit and they pretend that adding bloat to force you to buy stash tabs isn't p2w

It's difficult to get into, and while dying isn't particularly punishing in the campaign, it's also not fun and you'll probably do it a shitload if you go in blind. It can be rewarding once you learn it, but that takes straight up hundreds of hours.

Also the drops are balanced around trade, and trade is cumbersome garbage.

Do you want a second job? If yes, it's great, it'll eat up all of your time. You can engage with its many many many systems that got added over the years and you still won't make any meaningful progress without either major luck or major game knowledge.

      >Do you want a second job? If yes, it's great, it'll eat up all of your time.
This is false, I can do 24 challenges per league with casual play in 2 weeks on SSF, easily one week on normal server. Hardly "eat up all of your time".

Yes. People who play it regularly will throw out their angry thoughts since everything's tense around the changes coming with the new league, but the game is still overall great in regards to ARPGs and has a lot of value to get out of it before you get tired of it. It's a good time if you go into it with an open mind.

I started it this league and I had a lot of fun. But you WILL have to consult guides and wikis to understand a lot of stuff or to do well in the post-game content. There are a lot of things in the game that are overly complex just for the sake of it.

In just a year they ruined it irredeemably, I've never seen a game fall from grace so hard, even WoW took many years to do the kind of damage that GGG managed to do in a single year. Absolute new player here. I'd say yes, I only reach the prison area, hasn't even finished Act 1 but I have to say I enjoy every minute of it. Sure there are dozen of 'how x ruins PoE for me' youtube video out there, but it's almost always the minmaxer or endgame focused stuffs so I don't particularly care, in all honesty. This season will end soon anyway so I can just create a new character then.

I'm new too and got a good bit into maps and I'd also say yes. You require some real planning if you're not trading but the actual gameplay experience is very fun if you're the kind of person that enjoys fricking around with skill trees and synergies.

I can see what vets are complaining about but unless you're already in deep and have seen several patches it literally won't matter to you at all.
If there's anything I'm hoping to see with PoE2 is an overall rework of many gem effects so you're forced to run more spell types and avoid passive autocast playstyles.

  29. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

Yes, play on hardcore and do not follow a guide. When you die, use what you learned to improve your next character. If you play this way you'll have significantly more fun than of you hit up softcore and blindly follow a guide.

  30. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

in its current state I cant recommend it. maybe when poe2 drops.
the gem system will change dramatically from then and it will have a better campaign plus an influx of new players that are furries who want to play as the werewolf shapeshifter.
Also they just nerfed the frick out of minions ahead of the gem system in poe2 since every gem can be a six link. Having every minion be a six link is absurdly broken.

No! Get Path of Building insted.
It's an application, that let you make your own Path od Exile builds. This is exactly what you would try to do in actual game, but this application is more fun than actual game and will save you many hours of grinding and trading nightmare.
