    I prefer Hitman 3 WoA.
But Hitman in general has mediocre games at the absolute worst.
    None are actually "bad"

Contracts is better than Blood Money imo.

I enjoy nuHitman but the levels are far too scripted. Most AI routines will never happen if you don't stick around in the proximity trigger zone. Not just targets, but even simple stuff like two guards having a conversation to give you a hint about the hit, they'll stay in place for the entire playthrough unless you get within the conversation trigger zone and stay there until the entire conversation is done.

Contracts is good, SA is really mediocre, 47 is 100% not worth playing.

      SA isn't mediocre, just frustrating.

The second jap level is a cakewalk if you time your jumps through the trucks correctly, but yea its padding too hard.
the afghan levels, all of them feel like a reimagination of the lee hong hit but ended up being worse.

Its because people dont pay much if any attention to the "sus meter" and they sneak infront of a guard's face.

        >SA had its guards ""randomly"" noticing you
The problem is that SA's detection meter design is moronic. It should fill up as suspicion increases and you get detected at 100% meter, the way it is ingame where you get detected if the meter is red AND it pulses just frequently enough does feel random.

The key is the both the speed it pulsates and when it goes to red, wich is less than half way.
That is the early warning to get the frick out of there.

Contracts is the best one in my opinion.

Parts of C47 and SA are literally some of the worst levels i've played in any video game. It absolutely does delve into "bad" at times.

i looked at some of the early games (only played WoAjack and BM) and one of the early gamese (or games?) looked pretty miserable, there's basically no stealth involved and u just run around kill some guards and leave which probably was amazing in 1995 whatever but hasnt aged too well

Yes, both SA and Contracts are fantastic if you have a bit of patience. Just don’t expect to be able to achieve Silent Assassin every level first try like you could in Blood Money; you’ll have more fun if you allow yourself to actually use your tools because the safe routes arent as obvious.

I also appreciate how disguises don’t grant full invisibility like in BM and instead just grant you just another few precious seconds before detection, encouraging sneaking around, avoiding eye-contact, and “acting naturally” in social settings. Absolution tried to rectify this but went too far with how perceptive enemies with your current disguise are, and the level design didn’t compliment it. I’m really disappointed that IOI didn’t try to fix this system for WoA, because enforcers really are a poor band-aid.

People cried too hard when 2:SA had its guards ""randomly"" noticing you and they have been trying to find a solution to that since then.

      >codename 47
if you can make it run and it comes bundled with the rest yea give it a try, i dont see why not.
But be ready for those kind of games where despite looking open in its possibilites, in reality its pretty narrow on how you can take on targets asides from going full rambo.
      >2:silent assasins
Totally worth it but remember covid rules to keep a distance of anyone else when you are on a disguise and also avoiod eye contact, even when it gets silly like looking at the wall on a corner, and allways look for new weapons since it has the same system as blood money when you collect them and can use them on later missions, one of them is really really usefull.
      >contracts
This is where the formula you saw in blood money was polished from 2:SA levels that had that same type of sandbox scenario. Still have some sorta linear levels but they are decent enough.
Also, if you want to play it correctly play blood money untill the opera mission and then start contracts and everything will make way more sense regarding the story-timeline.

How's the AI in the earlier games?

Its pretty twitchy, like they can go from nothing to shoot you in half a second because you were in their faces for too long, pathfinding is pretty good and their aim is perfect compared to the dispersion you have.

Codename 47 is awful, didn't age well at all.
SA has some like enemy detection being really sensitive, turning some levels into a slog.
Contracts fixes a lot of stuff and has some levels from the first game remade, so give that one a shot.
nuHitman is cool, but nothing challenging, fun to mess around in.

Blood Money is the best one, never got around playing Contracts that much and the first Hitman I played back in the day was Silent Assassin and while I loved the atmosphere and aesthetic of that game I found it really hard and could never get past the Saint Petersburg missions

Diana narrows the guy down pretty good if you wait for her to tell you, but the most important part is from where you shoot, the higher up the better because at one level you only see their foreheads and cant even notice if he is using his left or right hand to grab the glass.

2 will drive you nuts if you're the type that must complete every mission with silent asassin target only, the stealth system just isn't consistent enough for that to always be viable, besides a few mandatory action segments. several missions you're going to need to accept being a massacre.

i think i was able to sa pretty much every level it was possible. Once you learn to slide you can get around gaurds consistantly.

      >That sniper mission in SA

the one where you have ti snipe the guy in the car was frusterating for me that shit is impossible to aim

If what you liked about blood money was the different ways of taking targets, the prequels are all a bit more limited. But still pretty good.
I like C47 but it's VERY different so you might not like it, it's more of a third person shooter than stealth game at times, and you might ask yourself if what you did was what you were "supposed" to do or if the game is just janky lol
Contracts is pretty great throughout, definitely play it
SA I have mixed feelings about, some people really love it, I think contracts is better. For me npcs can be a bit frustrating

Yeah, just don't try to get Silent Assassin on your first time playing and don't play on Professional difficulty. If you want you can skip Codename 47. Contracts is a remake of Codename 47 that removes the worse levels and tweaks the better ones.

1 was a good idea for the time but not quite on the mark. Aged like shit too. Unless you really care about the whole series then you can avoid.

2 Silent Assassin is an improvement over the original but still not quite there yet. You could try but don't expect anything much better.

Contracts is a good game. I do recommend. Not as good as Blood Money but the atmosphere and creepy dark levels/themes make it absolutely worth playing.

Honestly though, Blood Money was fricking perfection. Music, atmosphere, creepy bizzare characters, levels, freedom. What great game.
Nu Hitman 1-3 is good also.

I suggest trying 2 and Contracts
Contracts has so many details in weapon animation, good, punchy gunplay and decent ragdolls
you won't see corpses t-posing like they do in BM
