Is it worth it in 2023?

Unless you want to play MGS4 or a bunch of obscure, weebshit then no.

      it's only purpose is either
      >mgs dedicated gaming station but honestly anon just emulate, thoose are HD remasters of mgs2 and mgs3, mgs4 is literally a movie and mgsv runs like shit as most other games do, still kino and I enjoyed it very much, if you are enterested pirate or get the legacy collection (portable ops missing)
      >replay the 2007-2013 kinos, also ico, sotc, zone of the enders and some other ps2 titles

every game is playable on rpcs3

No, not yet. But it is getting there. It's worth keeping a hacked PS3 around for certain things. For everything else, RCPS3 is clearly superior.

Original hardware is always superior to emulation, no matter what.

Except when emulation can play games that would be 720p/30fps at 4k/60 and with mods

depends on price obviously. overall it's one of the best gaming systems ever made when you install cfw. but also there's not much need for it in the modern times, so that afflicts the worthness of it. but that will vary from person to person.

Still has some exclusives and considering you will probably hack it, you will get a nice system to play PSone and PS2 games. The only real issue is that non-chink shit controllers are hard and expensive to find, is easier to just get a mayflash or brook adapter to connect whatever controller you like to actually play

macross 30 still doesn't emulate 100% so yes

Personally i still play on my PS3:
    >Mortal Kombat 9 (aka the best mk)
    >Spec Ops: The Line
    >Monkey Island Special Edition Collection
    >D&D: Chronicles of Mystara
    >Street Fighter IV

Yeah and don't fall for the emulation meme. you'll play at low frames and res but the game will actually work with no interruptions

I agree. GoldenEye is so much better at 240p and 10fps.

GoldenEye is perfectly emulatable though, unlike most of the PS3 library

Hey I didn't say emulation was perfect, but if you single out the platform and generational exclusives that aren't on PC, the majority emulate well.

    no.
The OS is beyond slow, every game needs a slow as fuck install, and the games are getting expensive. Emulate, or get a 360 if you want multiplats. Multiplats run better, need no install and are 50% cheaper

Only if you are interested in playing PS3 exclusives. The vast majority of "classics" from that era can be played on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Sony decided that wasn't important. So if you want to play Ridge Racer 7, Resistance 3, Tokyo Jungle, 3D Dot Game Heroes and others, you need to get a PS3.

    >Those games are all shit and gay?
    Cool.

But I see so many people buying a PS3 for games like Dead Space, Metal Gear Rising and shit, it's emberassing.

Its k if you still have it around and it is still working fine, but otherwise, no. If your ps3 runs correctly, you should definitely install a cheap 500gb ssd in it and hack it. The cfw is pretty comfy. FYI, in case it sounds like a jet engine after hacking it, its webMAN app being a shit. Just dont install that shit and you will be fine. Install only IRISMAN/standalone Movian instead of multiman/webman combo
For me, ps3 is the home of metal gear series and I still revisit the series there every once and then. I also keep an extra controller around for old fightans with my friends

Isn't that just because the PS3 runs hot as shit so it keeps the fans on max at all times to try and keep it from cooking itself

        Anonymous

Yeah, when it comes to temps, ps3 gets pretty hot. It reaches 90C+ pretty fast. My guess is that multiman devs have increased the the fan speeds and lowered the bar when they reach max fan speed as default as an attempt to add years to it and to save you the effort to de-lid it, aka the only to fully repaste a ps3, but its super fucking risky.
However, with mulitman, it gets so fucking loud (especially when I run ps2 isos even with a cold console) that I'd rather let my ps3 naturally destroy itself from its high temperatures than getting a headache and ringing ears from the fan noise.
I also believe the factory default fan values are adequate enough to keep ps3 running.
Of course when my ps3 dies, I will use ps3emu exclusively for metal gear.

If it sounds like a jet engine, change your fan settings fucking retard. I have mine set to keep temperature at 70c and fan speed at 29%.

I tried that, but I still was getting loud fan noise. In the end, I have just uninstalled it and the problem was solved.

forgot to mention that I have the slim model, which doesn't run as hot as the launch fat models

True, used ps3 fats are pretty much on the brink of getting ylod. They are also a bitch to disassemble for maintenance

Follow a guide to install hen because it is the only one that works with slim and super slim
Then install pkgi to directly download games and multiman + wembam to transfer games trough FTP and play them directly from the xmb menu

I got the super slim for 140 bucks and it was instant regrets. The HEN crashes a fucking lot forcing you to hard reboot each time it happens. The controller feel cheap and not durable at all and you are required to use the official ones unless you don't care about playing game with gyro motion. Some roms are still missing in the internet archive even after years of release like Time and Eternity missing out some dlcs. Also a lot of games got remastered on ps4.
