If you happen the tolerate the wonky camera and British humor, yes. It is very very worth playing, as it, up to this day even, delivers nice features that aren't found in any other rpg. Like aging and being gay.
It's not representative of British humour among adults. It's pitched at the level of British children's television, where it's not unusual to mix fairytale idealism with the occasional anarchic, "naughty" thing. It gives British kids the illusion the writers are on their side. That they, too, are mischievous children in the classroom, poking fun at the teach.
Why would you need to "tolerate" British humour? The era of British humour it came from was better than any of the trash America shat out. Back then Americans unironically thought Friends was funny.
It's pitched at adults that want to laugh as children. It's suposed to be aware but childish. Such a typical British thing. Silly humour, like the underwear having the UK flag in the ass, or the "hey chicken chaser, do you chase chickens?" type of "it's so dumb and unfunny that it's funny that we use it, get it?", only to name a few without spoilers. I kinda like it, or at least the game makes it work, I guess. But I can see someone being put off by it.

the whole chicken chaser bit is cringe and it only gets worse from there. It needs to be "tolerated" because brits are "intolerable". Nevermind the cheeky brits, it's all of yuhs
Oy but loike at least we don't ave school shootings bruv big up the king
Might be harder to get into if you haven’t played it a while back. Or haven’t played ANY Fable.
Combat is lackluster. And the camera and lock on system is ass. But it’s pretty cool to see your character go from some dorky kid to a huge bad ass hero
So I count the Fable series among my favorite games. I'm biased. Fable 1 is objectively worth playing in 2023. It's engaging, the music and theme of the game are wonderful, there is a lot to enjoy.
The combat, and some of the other mechanics are a menace by todays standards. Beyond that, I think there is a enough that a totally new player could have a lot of fun with Fable 1 and the whole series.
i dont know about the original fable 1 or lost chapters. but anniversary edition has auto-center camera and its really horrible. any time you let go of the right stick the camera snaps to the center of the screen and its extremely disorienting. i couldnt continue and gave up
theres two control options. fable 1 controls and fable 2/3 inspired controls. 2/3 inspired controls is HELL with a super janking camera that will make you want to throw up if you have any kind of motion sensitivity. fable 1 controls is better but still has the horrible auto-center snapping. its fucking crazy how bad they fucked up the camera
It's worth playing, but keep in mind that it's very simplistic and was designed for children(especially the dialogue). It's a very charming game, especially the music. Also, don't play the remastered version(Fable Anniversary).
kek American children don't give a fuck either, the parents are the ones complaining. I'm just saying the game is not made for children. It's just British humour. Mature themes treated with an immature style. Quite the opposite of what Americans do.
Ganker help
I've been replaying this game recently and I'm up to the part where you need to sneak into the bandit camp just outside of oakvale to see your sister HOW THE FUCK DO I SNEAK PAST THOSE naggerS
after the first instance where you can sit off to the side to get in the gate (OR kill them all) you then have to kill everyone on your way up the hill
you talking about the short portion of the fence where you can see the gate? I can kill the first 2 guys with the bow but the 3rd guy always fucks it up...
I don't know how the fuck I beat this game 20 years ago as a child. Is this encounter bugged on the anniversary edition or something??
Sneak kill them with your bow. Shoot a full powered arrow once they're not watching at your direction.
I think the game was saying quite literally something like don't hurt them but I think this is the way it's supposed to be done, at least it's an easy way
It's definitely worth playing. It's one of those games I keep going back to every now and then. There not really any meaningfull replay-value in the sense that there's not much game-altering choices or totally different fighting style / gear, or upgrade path or such. There's some, but not enough to keep things fresh, yet I am not bothered at all even though I pretty much play it the same way every time, and want to go back regardless.
It's so charming and comfy that I just want to keep replaying it. It's piss easy too once you know a thing or two about the game.
anyone else shit their pants every time you have to escort the traders through the dark woods or whatever the fuck it was?
i was traumitsed by the balverine things for a long time
No but it bothers me as sometimes you can sacrifice one of them to get the best bow in the game, and sometimes the sacrifice doesn't get you shit. Reading about the mechanics seem very confusing.
I recently played through the main 3 games, having to use Xcloud's streaming service to play 2 on the PC.
Fable 2 holds up best, narratively and mechanically. 1 sucks ass mechanically, but the narratives and choices are still very engaging, perhaps moreso when compared to a lot of modern morality-driven games. 3 is the most flaccid, without a doubt the weakest link, and has probably aged poorer than the others on just about every level except maybe graphical.
It has the charm. I like the art, the voice acting, the general atmosphere but as a game it isn't that good. Minigames suck, sidequests suck, the game feels more railroaded than any while giving you a hint of open world type game. Then there's utterly retarded UI designs like the chest shit, the batman cavern shit, stupid health bar vision and press-to-hold shit.
Oh, and the game tries very hard to make things emotional but it feels very forced. Oh, and the big bad enemy reveal at the end is just retarded.
Still, because of the atmosphere, I sort of like it.
It certainly still has a charm, it just falls short of everything it reaches for. I think a large part of the appeal came from seeing the Post-Fable 2 world, but it's clear that they really had no idea where to take it. The industrial-era revolution plotline falls apart completely to make way for a lovecraftian demon threat that ends up being resolved without any creativity or effort. The Fable 3 that exists in my mind is better than the product I actually played.
When I went back and played the intro is kind of slow but it's still pretty good as you progress through it
Yes, why wouldn't it be? It's better than most modern games.

Why would it not be? Why do you require validation for your own choices?
Combat was way too boring. Stopped playing after awhile.
The best thing this game has is a fart button.
SLAMS DESK*
I challenge everyone ITT to name a more immersive gaming experience.
Fable 2?
Both Kotor games
Gothic 2. This was the only game where standing at the harbor while rain started to pour actually made me just sit there and reflect for a few moments
what were you reflecting about tho
kotor, dragon age origins, morrowind, gothic, etc

Its fun, not pretentious.
>nooo fun means nothing.
Ok
Yes because you can turbo cuck Thunder.
Fable was always shit and never worth playing.

>designed for children
specially the part about owning a whore house so you can fuck them for free
kids in england know about whore houses and don't cry in fear at the very idea like amerisharts so this isn't the gotcha you think it is, chuddie
kek American children don't give a fuck either, the parents are the ones complaining. I'm just saying the game is not made for children. It's just British humour. Mature themes treated with an immature style. Quite the opposite of what Americans do.
all games are for children
ywnbaw
I thought it got an M rating

I could never get past that part, it’s totally broken
funny story bro
you kill them all.

There's two good spots, you wait for them to go by and you're in? are you crouching?
Sneak kill them with your bow. Shoot a full powered arrow once they're not watching at your direction.
I think the game was saying quite literally something like don't hurt them but I think this is the way it's supposed to be done, at least it's an easy way
Yes. Its a nice game. I liked the second on better though.
I always liked rolling around in the bandit gear covered in tattoos while trying to maintain nootral alignment
It's definitely worth playing. It's one of those games I keep going back to every now and then. I have strange, mixed emotions of the third game.

Play TKC, not anniversary
I played it earlier this year, it's pretty fun, it's more fun as a sandbox than an rpg though. 7/10
it's one of my childhood defining games so I'll always love it, not sure how people who didn't grow up with it would feel about it
