        I googled and apparently it's 2011-2020
        >There is no year 0. Jesus was born before 4 B.C.E. The concept of a year "zero" is a modern myth (but a very popular one). In our calendar, C.E. 1 follows immediately after 1 B.C.E. with no intervening year zero.
Mario Galaxy 2 is not even close to being my GOTD then, there were too many good games in the 2000s

I don't care. It makes sense that we record 0 as the first year in a decade. A person who is 30 years old is in their thirties, we don't say someone who is 30 is in their twenties.

        Please explain.
        I didn't disliked it.
        I thought it was fine.
But gameplay wise I think most other Platinum games are better and story wise I didn't really think it was that good.
It had cool music and aesthetic though.

          Anonymous

I personally consider Automata to be the pinnacle of Platinum's games, with way more depth than any their previous titles.
Also, did you actually finish all the game's chapters, or only the route A?
Very important, as the A chapter's literally a prologue. B is a massive upgrade in many ways, and actually starts to answer many of the questions A leaves you with, re-contextualizing almost the whole game and leading to the even more extreme C chapter and up.

Last but not least, while it's not necessary to enjoy the Automata's plot and subtext, it is also a magnificent sequel to an already pretty damn good game from 2010, and part of a much larger saga.

If you replaced the 2B with a man would you say the same thing

          Yes, I would.
I will be completely honest with you: all the 2booty shitposting almost made me skip the whole game, as I thought it to be yet another coomer bait, something like the Oneechambara.
It wasn't before I started noticing the actual DrakeNier fans discuss the game's themes and storyline in a similar secrecy hush-hush manner as us Silent Hill fans used to do it years ago, trying to avoid spoiling the juicy parts for the newcomers but still following what's being implied, that I got curious of trying Automata at some point. Soon after, one of my dear friends with excellent taste recommended it to me personally, and rest is history.

I unironically enjoyed B chapter and 9S' gameplay way more than the generic yet kinda fun hack & slash gameplay of 2B. His character's also a lot more interesting, not to belittle 2B's role and backstory at all (which many people seem to be totally oblivious of, even after beating the game).

And obviously having now played the OG NieR (Gestalt and Replicant), plus Drakengards, I can honestly state that Taro's emotional rollercoasters of madness work even without beautiful femme fatales with exposed skin.

Do you recommend playing on normal or hard anon?

              Anonymous

For the first run, Normal by all means.
NieR games are not exactly meant to be some "Dark Souls hard" masochism runs. On the contrary, actually. I love just roaming around, finding secrets, doing side quests (which are VERY important for the world- and character-building, btw!), and even just fishing.
              Yes, fishing.

That being said, I've seen plenty of people to get filtered by the "tutorial" phase alone, since the game kinda plays like some early PS2 era classic title. No auto-saves or checkpoints, and some bosses can kill you in a couple shots you if you're not careful, especially early on.
But if you like tweaking your character's loadouts, learn to toy around with your Custom Chips (character upgrades) and and so on, you can quickly become pretty over powered.

Hard cranks up damage values, a lot, and strips you of some basic functionalities, such as enemy lock-on. It's best left for later playthroughs.

Great to hear. Hope you have even half as good time as me and my buddies had with it.
One tiny protip: enable the "online features". Trust me on this one. No, it's not some multiplayer thing, no Souls-like invaders and shit either.

Also, you may have seen the "lol you need to replay the gaem 10 times!!" meme.
                Don't bite into that bait!
Taro's games are always split into [chapters], some which may overlap with past events, BUT each chapter does expand and continue the overarching story. Sometimes, in ways you may not anticipate.

Eventhough the game outright tells you after finishing the chapter [A], with big cat-sized letters, that you're not even half-way through the story yet, waaay too many people still drop the game after the prologue chapter and are left wondering what the fuzz was even about. I've seen even big publisher gaming magazine journos make this mistake in yesteryears, and some outright wrote an apology article years later.

I'm kinda used to it since I played Replicant back on the PS3... unfortunately I only finished that one two times because I was bored of the gameplay, I'm glad Automata's gameplay is better. Also I didn't get much from the history which is a shame because people say it's great, but I don't remember the game explaining much of anything, I wanted to know why society became that way and why were the real characters those black ghosts and stuff.

                >I'm kinda used to it since I played Replicant back on the PS3
In that case you kinda know the drill.
However, Automata is far less repetitive than Gestalt / Replicant. It actually progresses one big story all the time, rather than making you replay literally the very same half of the game like its predecessor.

                >I wanted to know why society became that way and why
You kinda need to play Drakengard 1 to get the full picture. It's only hinted in the documents and LOADING SCREENS of Replicant and such.

The whole series' kinda like that, but I found it exciting to dig through the past games and piece together the bigger picture, like some digital archeologist.

                The gameplay is garbage
                The story is pretty basic
                The visuals are nice
                The music is top tier

Nobody here has replayed it, because overall it's pretty mediocre. I wish I had pirated it.

He definitely wouldn't feel like writing up paragraphs of muh nostalgia in defence of it. There's nothing to spoil, because adults should be able to see most of it coming a mile off. The kojimbo style chapter design should also tip people off that this is a story game - the gameplay is very secondary to fanservice.

                >Nobody here has replayed it,
I have literally replayed it 100%, twice.
I first played it on PC, loved it. Beat the story in full at 80h mark.

Bought it for PS4 soon after, and replayed it there as well. Platinumed it completely.
Automata is astonishing masterpiece, that perfectly utilizes gaming's interactive nature to deliver its story and the main themes, latter being the more striking and important of the two. It goes beyond gaming.

It would be a different game.
Part of the dynamics of the story and the characters is the domineering woman (2B and then A2) and the out of sorts but inquisitive boy trying to grow up, and being stopped every time by the woman.
That part of the story is the Faustian spirit being stifled by the comfort provided by a corrupted vision of motherhood.

I do not agree. The story's delivered poorly, and the literal repetition of the same half of the game ruins it in the end. Automata handles the delivery way better, and its setting, cast and themes work notably better with the gimmicks and overall "whoa!" effect.

The gameplay is very mediocre, the action is servicable enough for a playthrough or two at most but not to the extent the game wants you to play for. The game is also way too easy, most of the items and upgrades you get feel meaningless considering how easy the game is which makes exploring the open world feel more barren and dull than it already is. The side quests are also extremely shallow and pretty much only amount to fetch quests with barely anything going on for them.
