Absolutely, Spyro 1 especially (the later ones have a bigger focus on minigames, which every series seem to devolve into) is one of the most unique platformers in existence. Its soundtrack is killer, the collectibles are all very satisfying and don't feel like overkill in terms of how many there are.

And the gliding mechanics and level design make it one of the most unique platformers when it comes to exploration. I know all the maps off by heart now, but back in the day, discovering the secrets was the best part. There's no really obtusely hidden stuff, it more focuses on large open level where you spot something in the distance, and then have to work out how to get there.

Definitely play it, and play the original for the old school art design and charm.

2 and 3 turned out much worse because of minigames

Definitely. 1 is shit and generic as frick though. If you hate it, then jump straight to 2 which has actual S O U L

Also, the original PS1 games haven't aged at all, you can play them over the trilogy remaster just fine. In fact, I'd say that they're even better because the swimming controls feel weird as frick in the remaster

spyro 2 has hunter, the most condescending, unnecessary butthole Ive ever had the displeasure of suffering through.
People hate on sonic for his weird friends but non of those even come close to my hatred for hunter

frick I hate this 'let me tell you how to play the game' stuff, really bad in Sly Cooper games too
of all things why shoehorn it into a sequel? you'd think people would already be familiar with the basic controls
better yet just let people figure it out themselves and shut the frick up

What the frick is wrong with you. He's just a bro. He's not condescending or whatever the frick you think. Are you just seething that he calls you a chicken and gave you the tutorial or something? Is this some proper 'blue arms' autism where you're latching onto something from childhood and can't think rationally about it anymore?
        >gives you some shit from time to time
        >respects that you help him out all the time

    Play the remakes.

No. The remakes lack the charm, heart and the magical feel the originals have.
Admittedly they do improve some aspects but they are clearly cobbled together in an attempt to cash in from the Crash Remakes and it shows.

Something unique about it for a 3D platformer is its focus on speed. There are a lot of areas where you have to take tight turns to keep control of Spyro's charge.

The first is objectively the best in terms of design. No back-tracking.
Second and third are alright, but 2 has some weird design choices and the minigames are mostly shit.

Don't know why they added that shit in 2.

Busy work. Buying abilities was a dumb idea for Spyro, where the vast majority of the time you're gliding from platform to platform, so they probably felt they had to make you go back to a single ladder to get a few gems as a way to compensate, or something.

At least in 3 you were essentially buying new minigames with the new characters and they were generally pretty good.

Can't understand the hate for Spyro 2. Sure, backtracking and some of the minigames suck, but each level has it's own unique feeling to it and also fun intro-outro -cutscenes that are pure soul. The soundtrack is great, too.
Spyro 3 is the shittiest game in the trilogy.

Spyro 2 has the shittiest level design and barely any platforming, that's why. Spyro 3 has better platforming and the minigames at least don't feel as pointless as the minigames in 2.

I felt precisely that the minigames in Spyro 3 were pointless. The platforming's better in some cases, yeah, but I think that the overall level designs were boring and unspired.
        I also fricking hate skateboarding.

      >and some of the minigames suck
Most of them do, not "some" - I can't remember a single level where getting an orb wasn't a drag. The only decent ones were in Hurricos (the platforming one, not the shitty "wait for thieves to appear to kill them so they stop stealing electricity orbs") and Mystic Marsh (the pencil one, and even then it's just a fetch quest). Maybe if orbs were just hidden in the levels (like they are in hubworld levels) it'd be more fun for me to replay Spyro 2 - weirdly enough, Spyro 3 did that with dragon eggs but also kept minigames (so you get eggs by finding them in levels AND doing annoying minigames).
      >but each level has its own unique feeling to it
And I prefer Spyro 1 approach of levels sharing the same theme as their hubworlds - they still end up unique enough by showing different sides of the world (like Dark Passage and Town Square in Artisans, Dry Canyon and Ice Cavern in Peace Keepers, etc. - I do admit that Magic Crafters is mostly just mountains and Wizard Peak could be more magician-themed level). Spyro 2 levels have no ties to the hubworlds (outside of sort-of paired connection), so you could literally shuffle them between hubworlds and you'd see no difference (which is why it's so baffling to see the difference in number of levels between Autumn Plains and Winter Tundra).
      >and also fun intro-outro -cutscenes that are pure soul
Eh, personally I never cared about them - they weren't in 1, and they were gone in 3. Guess some people did love them, so that's a valid point.

I replayed this game a while ago remembering all the good feels I had as a kid and all i found was a boring collectathon where you spend hours because you missed one gem somewhere hidden in the level
Also the flying sections sucks balls

    Yes but not the remake.
Play the playstation 1 games. Better art, better skyboxes, you won't find that pastel touch in the remakes.

I've not even played the remake but I'd recommend playing that over the originals. The load times for the first three games are absolutely insane by todays standards.

I tried emulating last year and it had to tap out from boredom before even reaching the second world.
