I play 30 fps on my 1660s because I want graphics over frame rates
If you wanted graphics you'd get a RT card
>Ray Tracing
it is the worst thing to have happened to graphics cards. it works like shit and looks blurry.
t.3060ti user
Money though
RT is a poorly implemented gimmick.
Whoa there's my window reflections for paying hundreds more! Honestly have a nice day gamers are the most contrnt to be scammed consumer base out there and in the same ranks as new age crystals consumers
50hz is pretty good for shooters that can't quite hit 60
Some people have a good usecase for it, maybe they travel a lot. Some people are women who dont have a dedicated gaming pc and play visual novels with it.
The performance isnt the issue, its whether you actually have a use for it.
I turn down the fps to 40 if I want to conserve battery life. I usually eke out at least one more hour, possibly two, and for turn based games like octopath traveler you literally cannot tell the difference.
I turn it down to 40 or 50 if I want easy mode in a game that ties game speed to frame rate 🙂
>Some people are women
Why does this sound dystopian to me?
I've just always preferred handheld when it's an option, it's what I'm used to. Even when I'm sitting on the couch, I prefer to have the game in my hands like a book, which has the added bonus of avoiding >dad walks in moments
>The performance isnt the issue, its whether you actually have a use for it
pure gaming wisdom
I really like mine. I've been wanting a competent emulation handheld that went up to PS2 for the past decade and this thing exceeds expectations. The fact that the vast majority of my favorite PC games run on it is just a huge bonus.
Playing Oblivion and Dragon Ball Tenkaichi 3 on the go is an amazing experience.
>On the go from the couch to the toilet.
Total meme.
Some of us leave our houses anon.
All u need is the dock.
I've got mine set up and play MK8 and RE4 ps2
why the hell would you emulate re4 when you can run the texture upgrade mod? its like and additional 30gb, but its so worth it.
>play ds3
>literally need to set 480p just to get 60fps
i got scammed by shills on this board
It was good last year, could play Elden ring and shit.
Why lie about something that's so easy to check?
800p medium gives you 60fps with few dips into the 50s.
>few dips
>800p medium and it still drops to 50-52 every time
moron did you even watch the vid you linked? the only time he's on 60 is when he's not doing anything
Just like on my RTX 4090. The games are badly optimized and stutter all the time.
if DS3 stutters on your 4090 then that's not a 4090 and you got scammed by a pajeet
It's a 4090, it does shit in other games that only a 4090 can do. DS3, Sekiro, Elden Ring, etc all have optimization issues that cause stutters and slowdowns no matter what hardware.
>4090 can never run DS3 on 1080p constant 60fps
what kind of deckshill cope is this?
What kind of retard doesn't know that not everything in shitty game development can be solved with pure computing power?
>deckshills unironically pretend that a 4090 desktop PC has the same performance with the steam deck when running DS3
HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA holy shit
No one ever said that, have a nice day.
Lower your retardedly high expectations. Every game dips once in a while.
>>play ds3
>i got scammed
No shit.
>implying i paid for it
>480p just to get 60fps
fix your shit anon what the fuck
also you don't need 60fps to beat these games
>also you don't need 60fps to beat these games
damn you're carrying that goalpost to the moon
>fix your shit
>G- GOAL POST MOVED!1!!
Learn how to use your shit retard, there's no reason why you should be having this much trouble.
Quit lying dumbfuck, this is literally the best you can get with a higher res and it still drops a lot of the times to 50.
>inb4 b-but it's 60
That's not 60fps dumb moron, that 50fps with occasional 60.
is ds3 particularly badly optimized?
i played elden ring at medium settings 60fps just fine.
>i played elden ring at medium settings 60fps just fine.
not on a steam deck you didn't
you are free not to believe me
the 40hz mode is a meme to save battery, you can easily play anything at 60 on it thanks to the 800p resolution
>you are free not to believe me
I can verifiably call you a liar because I have a steam deck and regularly play elden ring on it and there is no way in hell the game can handle 60fps in overworld, let alone 40hz without drops.
where did i ever say i did not have drops? LMAO
i grew up with metal slug x, i'm used to this shit
Literal consolepleb mentality. If the lowest frame drop is not 60, then it's not 60fps. Simple as.
Consoles have hit 60fps consistently this gen thus far.
>dude you can totally play anything at 60fps!
>game that gets constant drops all the way down to fucking 35, shit frametime the entire way through and never even hits 60 unless you're in a cave where almost nothing gets rendered
yeah ok retard
just because you cap it to 60 doesn't mean the game is actually running at 60fps
>says it can "easily play anything at 60"
>admits it has massive drops
So it doesn't easily play anything at 60?
those drops aren't massive at all, it's nitpicking at best
Take off gaben's cock in your mouth for a sec and post your "60 fps" gameplay you lying shill.
Bro, it doesn't ever even hit the fps cap running at 60. It runs at like 35fps in overworld while pulling 15W TDP. You can't even run at 40hz. ER is a 30fps game on deck.
Even at 30fps, with mediums/low, no AA, low shadows and some AO so the game doesn't look like dog shit, I still find my deck pulling up to like 18W total power and get an occasional dip even at 30fps. The game is not capable of running anywhere near 60 unless started making radical sacrifices. I love my deck and the performance is pretty spectacular for what it is, but you're basically just lying.
yeah you played 60fps by looking at the sky and staying still you retard
deckshills are just as much, if not more, of a cultist than nìntendrónes
I don't know what you think you're accomplishing by lying about this
of course it's a meme, have you ever heard anyone mention one outside of Ganker?
Yeah my friend got one. He has both switch and deck to play games at work. I’m leaning towards switch because it’s more portable and I want to play mario kart and smash.
I also own both and honestly I'm just using my switch now for ringfit and my deck for playing pirated anime on my tv.
>my deck for playing pirated anime on my tv
You don't need a Deck for that.
I don't but it sure as hell a lot more convenient
A small laptop is just as–if not more–convenient.
bro I'm not buying a small laptop if I already bought the smallest "laptop" that I don't use
Yeah, I can't think of a reason to get the Deck when my 14" laptop does everything it can and more.
What jobs do bros have that let them play games at work?
Anon, your employer is supposed to let you have breaks
I don’t understand this mentality at all. I love the shit out of video games, but I wouldn’t squander a 15 minute break or a 30 minute lunch on gaming for a paltry amount of time. Get some food, do some reading, talk with people a little, unwind some sure. Using 10 of 15 on gaming or cutting into your lunch feels inadequate to have a good gaming session, and it makes me feel like those people need their “fix.” Also, those are always the people that are pulling their consoles out at inappropriate times. They’re adults, and they’ll be at a party or a funeral, and you’ll find them on their handheld like some 8 year old.
by the time you eat your lunch, use the bathroom, and do your business your break time is up. the most you can squeeze in gaming is a mobile game that is less than 2-5mins.
Yes.
Switch is much better and I say this as someone who loves Linux.
As someone who has a Deck and a Switch, both have their pros and cons. I feel like the Switch is more let down by Nintendo though than itself.
>Steam Deck
+Despite size it's surprisingly comfy to hold
+Decent power, if you're not into AAA shit you can play a lot of older games at 60
+God tier emulation machine
+Similarly, great for playing source ports, Ocarina of Time randos are fucking great on the deck
-Linux is fickle and annoying, especially Steam's version of it. A lot of the time I need to compile shit on a Linux VM then send it over because Valve has locked down aspects of it
-File transfer between Windows and Linux is annoying as fuck, requiring FTP because Windows doesn't recognize Linux formatted disks. This is more of a windows complaint though
-Screen could be better
Switch (OLED)
+Fucking amazing screen and small bezels, makes a further negative point about it down the list worse though
+Quick OS
+Decent library of first party games. Probably wouldn't get it for third parties but that's me
-Nintendo locking it down. Shit could be a great emulatorbox for PSX and below complete with an OLED screen. Could be playing stuff like Virtual Boy Wario Land with true blacks but Nintendo doesn't care. Can't hack OLEDS without a modchip either.
-Everything Nintendo does is frustrating as fuck, dripfeeding content and such, remapping is console-wide and no emulation options
-Find its less comfortable to hold than my Deck
There's a Decky plugin called DeckMTP that lets you transfer stuff directly from windows to linux via USB
Need to grab one of those USB C converters, though I genuinely didn't know that existed. Thanks anon.
it's a fairly new plugin, shocked it isn't mentioned more.
tendie machines are incredibly comfy once you can hack them fully.
nintendo's autism gimps their hardware so much it's unreal
Yeah, I used to game on a hacked 3DS and is was practically attached to me. I'd fucking kill for a softmod for the OLED. A lot of shit I like is playable on a hacked Switch and that screen is fucking beautiful. It's practically going to waste.
You forgot to mention the Deck has shit-tier battery life
>literally can tweak anything
and your Nintendo response?
It just works
wrong
I have a Switch and was utterly shocked to see how people totally ignored the terrible battery life. Playing Breath of the Wild on release I distinctly recall getting about 3 hours and a couple minutes of battery life on a full charge when not tethered to the wall. Some games did better, some did worse.
3ds & wii u had terrible battery life as well so i think tendies were simply conditioned to accepting 2.5 hours of gameplay.
otoh you have mustards losing their shit because they've never owned a device that isn't plugged into the wall at all times
metroid dread kills a v2 switch in like an hour forty five, it really is atrocious
meanwhile if you run brightness down, 30 fps, cap your tpd at 10-12, you can get like 5-6 hours out of most switch games on deck, and 10-12 on lightweight pc games
I got myself a decent 65W USB battery pack and this is no longer a problem for me.
is steam deck worth it if i want to use psp, ps vita or ps2 emulators ?
or old nintendo games
PSVita emulation is in its infancy. Get a PSVita. But for PSP and PS2, hell, even PS3 it's pretty great.
this post isn't biased towards nintendo and shitting on the deck, delete this anon
>Ocarina of Time randos are fucking great on the deck
Do you have a link to a OOT build for the deck? Mario 64 as well.
>File transfer is annoying because it requires FTP
FTP is super convenient though?
>Bezels
Why do people hate them so much?
I have both as well (original hacked, Not OLED). Its nice for all the first party stuff but anything I can play on the steam deck I will over the switch now. Both are good but the Deck is better overall because of all the emulation power and PC games.
>Why do people hate them so much?
Really?
I mean I'm not actively wanting them but its just a little extra space on the sides. What is it taking away from?
>What is it taking away from
Screen real estate. Bezels are just pointless.
But the screen wouldn't be any bigger. If it was the same texture as the plastic would that change anything?
>-Linux is fickle and annoying, especially Steam's version of it. A lot of the time I need to compile shit on a Linux VM then send it over because Valve has locked down aspects of it
WTF are you running on your deck that isn't available as a flatpak, appimage, or just a tar.gz archive? I haven't had to compile a single thing.
>-File transfer between Windows and Linux is annoying as fuck, requiring FTP because Windows doesn't recognize Linux formatted disks. This is more of a windows complaint though
You retard fuck. Lmao. Just format a USB stick or mSD as exfat and boom. They can both read it. Do you just enjoy making your life harder for no reason?
yesterday i played tekken 7 all night at 60fps, great game.
one of the cutscenes was lagging though, wtf
Is there a trick to playing FPS games with gyro? I've been so used to playing FPS with a KB+M that it feels insanely weird going back to controller.
Just remember that gyro is there to help the analog stick, not to replace it.
Wrong. Flick stick is the best control scheme.
>gyro to aim
>stick to rotate in direction you flick it
Use it in tandem with one of the other inputs. I started using gyro with my Steam Controller. I used the gyro with touch on the right pad as an activator, using tilt for big movements, swiping on the pad for fine adjustments. Some people do it opposite, but either way is better than stick or pad input alone. Takes a little bit to get used to. Once you have that muscle memory tune to it though there is nothing better apart from a mouse. Its the best that a controller could ever be.
Anyone playing master duel on theirs? seems built for it.
>tfw trying out the steam controller templates with it
I never realized how comprehensive this shit was, I feel bad for the Steam controller for dying now, it's pretty neat.
does deck have a VRR display?
No.
vrr eats battery life I guess
Dug around a little bit. Looks like it apparently supports refresh rates anywhere between 40-60, which is bizarre to me, but I was only going to say 40 fps isn't bad considering battery life, it's rather frame-pacing that would be shit
but since it seemingly supports 40hz proper, it's actually fine.
>get it
>try out Portal 2 to test it out and get a feel for it
>forgot how nice Portal 2 looked for a game made in like 2011
I think it's mainly the lighting but it still looks better than some modern games.
mgs4 still looks better than 90% of the games coming out today.
If you're referring to the tech demo of MGS4 that was at E3 2005(2006?) then yeah.
You can use that Steam API to configure any input the same way now, but the Steam Controller really shined with it.
>hold down a button as a modifier to increase total inputs
>using the pads for radial menus
>held button plus pad is a second quick menu
>quick double presses
>double presses and holds for another entirely separate set of bindings
I've never had a controller be so absolutely useful. It really is remarkable.
the only problem i have is that the start button is way too close to the face buttons
It is for normie consoomers. Games work like trash under proton, shitty performance, lots of bugs due to translation layers. It's expected for Wine/Proton, and is manageable if you are at least experienced with linux.
As a linux toy it's great and a lot of fun. Emulation is good, and old stuff runs great if you fine-tune it in wine (like Heroes3 for instance).
As a gaming console for your average joe? Nah.
whole valve is a meme
This. I'm sick and tired of people pretending they're "le good guys" when they're just another shitty company.
They're easily the most trustworthy company that's making a niche device like the steam deck. You can order a steam deck right now for 400 dollars for the base model and receive it within 5 days. It has tons of support and will continue to be supported by Valve and the userbase for years to come.
The rest of the competition are all chinkware devices shipped out from who the fuck knows where China. They're overpriced, a crapshoot on quality, and you're going to have to wait months for it to arrive. Sometimes you wont get the device until the next revision comes out because they churn out hardware updates faster than Apple iPhones.
Steam Deck isnt the most powerful device on the market, nor is Valve the most consumer friendly, but the rest of the competition is so bad it's easily the safest choice to make for the average enthusiast.
He's talking about gays like these that make videos about "OWNING BIG EVIL CAPITALIST COMPANIES" while shilling for Valve.
Why there are even videos about some fat guys playing pirated nintendo games on deck
Nobody believes that they dump their own roms
Youtube wtf
yeah wtf, why hasn't the FBI done anything?
Its only because Nintendo aggressively takes down content like this. Valve isnt going around DMCAing videos about cracking steam games.
>Valve isnt going around DMCAing videos about cracking steam games
Valve doesn't have valuable video game franchises.
>Valve doesn't have valuable video game franchises.
Yes. But they’re one of the few companies that VALUES video games.
>They're easily the most trustworthy company
How you can say that after the whole Artifact fiasco boggles my mind.
gaben likes dota
he has never been to a single csgo major
he goes to every dota international
he just loves dota
he will never stop loving dota
he will do anything for dota
it hurts
>mocking consoles for decades for sub 60 fps and sub hd resolution
>steam deck comes out
>akshually 20fps 360p was always good!!
I can't imagine lying on the bed and playing the deck. I get numb hands even when looking at my phone. So now I have to sit on the couch or on a seat and play the deck. Now I might as well use a dedicated machine to play my game or a laptop whatever. I don't see the appeal.
Steam Deck is a VN reader. Simple as.
>I can't imagine lying on the bed and playing the deck
I do it pretty often. On my back, on my side, or sitting in a reclining chair. I really like the ability to sit down anywhere I happen to be comfortable and play a game, not have to worry about resting a laptop on my thighs while also holding a controller.
Maybe you have an issue with your circulation.
i set it on a pillow for high bpm stuff.eg
i have no problem otherwise but i also liked the duke. joycons feel way worse for long sessions imo
I wish Deck had removable controllers.
I wish that in general separated controllers were the norm for the entire industry.
I took mine apart to upgrade the 2230 nvme, the sticks are on seperate PCBs with a few screws and a single ribbon cable seems easy to replace.
Me too. I'm so scared of getting stick drift one day.
The deck has hotswappable joysticks & can be replaced with hall sensor ones too, even the most tech illiterate people will be able to figure it out
I love whatever Anon started this trend, I love my overhead bed phone and tablet vice. I just wish I had more time to snooze and play games like this. Peak cozy.
There are UMPC's that do. They're also better than the shit deck.
Try shopping around more.
just use an external monitor
40FPS is unacceptable, deck needs better cooling, like an optional protruding heat sink cooler.
Yes.
Handheld gaming is for children and boy-molesters.
How well does the steam deck do remote play? I've been running games straight off the steam deck, but I'm considering using remote play from my Desktop to run more intensive gsmes in the near future.
same as any device
it 100% depends on your home network
nah, its pretty great
>nearly all of your steam games in portable form
>can play non steam games too
>excellent controls, you can play pretty much anything you can play with a controller and km+m nearly as good
>can dock it to your living room and have a nice entertainment center
really the only downsides is that going even slightly off the "Great on Deck" path can be a huge pain in the ass in terms of tinkering, but the option is there, also battery life is not the best
Map magnifier to a button and turn based strategy works great. Been playing battle academy on the couch in docked mode.
that's a nice taste
Realistically it's just replaced my living room consoles and switch. All I really need.
I can play MHR on Deck for like 2 hours before plugging in. Indie games like 4+. The battery life meme is the biggest lie the poorfags/thirdworlders who can't get decks spread on this board.
i can play ps1 and gba games on it for 6 hours.
on the other hand, botw on cemu at 60fps murders my battery in much less than 2 hours
it's on a case by case basis
mhr does not sound very well optimized if what you say is true btw
you have to be out of your fucking mind not to lock it to 30 instead of tolerating an inbetween framerate like 40
you have to be a fucking retard to not understand how the refresh is matching the framerate just like VRR so it's a non-issue
yes
40fps is twice what the switch can do
I don't see how this is better than 14 inch asus/razer laptop
>playing a from game without the framerate shitting itself
youdidntbeatthegame
no
modifying hz for smoother gameplay is just smart, 40 is far from even 60, but its also far better than 30.
so it's probably better to say 40 is the new 30.
not if you have an use for it.
If you don't have a gaming pc, travel a lot or spend a lot of time in middle of nowhere, then this is an absolute steal.
Reminds me of corona showing people's true colors in the face of desperation. Now there's people saying theyre cool with 30-40-60hz when the past 10 years or so I've been hearing about le epic 144hz or 4k (epic lmfao @ ps3 only 720p30fps) (xd @ switch only 60hz and 720p)and consoles suck because they cant do native 4k or capped 60.
Its just another incidental test of mass psychology. I already had a feeling with the never ending "yeah 4gb of ram is enough and game devs/pc ui are so advanced now you'll never need more than 4-8-16gb of ram" horseshit that nobody knew what they were really talking about. Now I have confirmation.
Its great for mobile, Im sure its nice, I just cant find a use-case a 25 dollar tablet with steam link cant already fill. Longest ive been away from my pc was maybe a week, tablet fills its void on vacations, phone fills the tablet's void on the go. Im too saturated with entertainment to enjoy it right now. It does come in handy for debunking old PC feature-copes that turned out to just be sour grapes for console stuff.
>using pedo as an insult on Ganker
>implying the Switch doesn't run Splatoon 2 and 3 at 60fps
>splatoon on non-OLED display
For me its 45 fps on the deck
I'm in the Navy and it's perfect for someone like me, so small and plays all the games I want to play on it. I'm playing the first Silent Hill at the moment.
When I have a bit more space I use the dock and have a better PC than my old windows 7 one at home anyway.
I agree with an earlier post, it's great, but it's definitely elevated if you fit into the niche that doesn't have an amazing PC sitting about anyway.
>I'm in the Navy
do the deck scrubbers even get internet access, or do you have to stock up on shit while in port?
Install EmuDeck
Play MK8 Deluxe
It's mad kino and slaps so hard it's not even funny.
Fr u can use any controller if u got a dock.
No cap I'm using a WiiU pro controller too
Sometimes I forget that I set the hz and fps to 40 to save battery life in some intensive game and then I boot up a GBA emulator and wonder why the FUCK its shitting itself
GBA I usually set it to lowest on cores and hz or at least very low.
>mustard race spends their entire existence screaming about how anything under 60 FPS is unplayable
>Cuck Deck releases, can barely do 40 FPS
>40 FPS is suddenly fine
>has choice
>this is bad
the ultimate cuck.
because it runs on a small screen at 800p, not 1080p or 4K on large monitors.
Am I being trolled or are some people really expecting for a handheld to play latest AAA at full speed when even most PC struggle?
There are people here who post weirdly about the deck all the time and im pretty sure most of it is just the same few of them
How come that you PCfags have been shitting on 30 fps for decades and now it’s fine when Steam Deck is doing it? How can you not see this hypocricy? Are you mentally ill?
>How come that you PCfags have been shitting on 30 fps for decades and now it’s fine
Nice zoomer strawmanning. Anyone who grew up with PCs knows that a shitload of PC classics from the 90s (Doom, Doom 2, RCT, RCT2, Diablo, Diablo 2, Starcraft, Ultima games, Dungeon Keeper, and a shitload more) all ran at hardcoded 20-40 fps depending on the game. You can open any list of greatest 90s PC games of all time, and you can bet at least a third of those, if not half, were never meant to be played at 60 or more fps.
This MUH FPS obsession is a modern phenomenon that started becoming a trend at the same time e-sports and other "gamer" shit started becoming a trend in the mid-late 00s (gaming snacks, gaming drinks, gaming chairs, gaming diapers, etc.), and was used as a way to market useless crap and launder money and has nothing to do with what PC gaming was about.
It’s a fucking portable device, it’s not competing with 2000 dollar PCs or even PS5/Xbox Series X, but with Switch or mobile phones etc.
40hz is the direct answer to that.
also performance may be the easiest way to demonstrate the advantages of PC, freedom us far nore important.
Even if the performance cap of PC was only about the same as a series X/PS5 (lets say Nvidia and AMD just stopped at mid-range for consumer cards), the freedom would still make PC appealing.
The majority of snes games were 60fps
if only you were actually around to have played on an SNES.
whats the deal with underage pretending to be old men?
Yes, far better options exist. Only poor people get a reddit deck
>PC lards shit on console fags because console games perform worse
>couple years go by
>every single modern DX12 release performs worse than the console version and has inherent, unpatchable stutter
>uhhhh calm down guys, a few frame drops here and there don't mean anything
*breathes in*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
downloading premade shaders gets rid of stutter on my PC.
>it's alright when steam deck does it
> stema deck is raising the standard fps by 10
Based
Post your recent games
binding tilt to q and e in combination with gyro is amazing in FEAR.
Holy shit good idea.
>Binding of isaac
Okay I'll give you a pass for now
Astlibra is kuso kino
no its literally all just the lastest major nintendo releases anyway
switch emulation being as good as it is, is the death rattle of NOA
so far i haven't encountered anything unplayable and everything runs at least 25 fps with sufficient tweaking (disabling SMT is usually key)
Post it anyway
I got one last week and I'm really enjoying it so far. It is basically the best emulation machine ever made, can do anything up to PS2 flawlessly. It can also emulate PS3/360, but I've not tried those yet.
Spent a day or two getting Deus Ex: Invisible War set up and working on it. Had to do some tinkering to get a mod working on it, but in the end it did despite needing an .exe installer. I got dgVoodoo working on it too, which means almost all the old PC games I play will run on it nicely. Then I had to set up a control scheme which works, but it has enough buttons and customisation options that I actually had buttons to spare by the end. Trackpad works really nicely even for FPSes.
As for whether you should get one, it really depends on whether you have a use case. I wanted it so that I can play old PC games when I'm sat on the sofa. I can't use the TV because my fianceé watches things on there, and my laptop was a bit unwieldy, so a beastly handheld fills the gap nicely. You should get one if you travel a lot, or want to play on a giant handheld on the sofa or in bed. If you're sat at your PC desk all the time anyway, there is no point.
>It is basically the best emulation machine ever made, can do anything up to PS2 flawlessly
Bro my phone can do that
PS3/360 emulation on phones is absolute shit, the screens are tiny, and they have no physical buttons. Even if you buy one of those snap-on controllers, it won't have dual trackpads or the 4 extra rear buttons. I also use my phone for emulation sometimes, but it's only really good for stuff up to GBA.
Is there any difference between the models aside from storage capacity? I probably wouldn't play big games on it, just emulators and Isaac. Don't think I'd need much space.
The 512gb has an anti glare screen. It's not really worth it. There's no difference between the 64gb and 256gb besides storage space. A lot of people buy the 64gb and upgrade the SSD if you're comfortable with that.
>And isaac
based
Anyway get a 64gb and upgrade the internal drive. You can get a 512gb for like $50 I think. It takes like 5 min to replace.
>Unscrew the back
>Unscrew the cover
>Replace.
midwit thinking
imagine not leaving all of your enclosed hardware stock and in a TPU, only buying items that will eventually appreciate in value
you can buy 2TB SD cards and hotswap them
ruining the resale value of your switch unit with aftermarket mods is the definition of midwitdom
ps when you incels get married this justification is how you get toys past a normie wife, hth
The resale value of a Steam Deck is not going to be "ruined" by having a 512GB SSD instead of a 64GB one. It also is not going to be ruined by opening it. In fact, consoles with sensible modifications sell for more than stock.
Also, the way I "get my toys" past my normie wife is by saying "I want this so I'm going to buy it".
you don't have a normie wife, you live with some ugly bat you can barely stand
point me to a single good condition, used gamecube-or-earlier generation console with a storage hardware mod going for more than a comparable mint/near-mint unit without any modifications
Just look at any ODE mods anon. Also what do you mean earlier storage mods? Before gamecube era most other things still used cartridges so they would use flashcarts not hardware mods. Hardware mods for video outputs always increases the value.
>you don't have a normie wife, you live with some ugly bat you can barely stand
Nope, she is a literal Stacey. Never touched a video game in her life. I'm just not a pussy who has to give clever arguments to allow me to spend money.
>point me to a single good condition, used gamecube-or-earlier generation console with a storage hardware mod going for more than a comparable mint/near-mint unit without any modifications
Easy as fuck. Stock GBC £60, modified GBC £260. I literally make money modifying old consoles and then selling them for a profit. It is fucking obvious that a console with better specs and custom modifications is going to sell for more. People literally pay me to do these mods on their own consoles.
> paying 320 dollary-doos for a gameboy color
what the actual fuck
Mental, isn't it? People do it though. The best bit is, the LEDs in the buttons make them absolutely horrible to play.
A nice screen is cool but the light up buttons are dumb. Looks cool for a pic but wastes battery and are always too bright. I plan to mod one myself eventually and need to pick the colors for it still. Or I might just do a gameboy horror one.
But its a handheld console not a normal "console". Also if I pirated a game I own it.
Yes, I definitely agree about the LEDs. They look absolutely horrible in the dark, they are searingly bright and cannot be adjusted. For when you do it, I can highly recommend the Funnyplaying LCD retro pixel 2.0, and you'll need a case from them to fit it in. You can do it on an original case, but it takes a shitload of work with a dremel. The soldering is very easy.
Yeah I was planning to get a funnyplaying. I love the pixel grid to make it more like the original a bit. Its been fun seeing all the different advances with them over the last few years. I'm semi comfortable with soldering so Im not too worried about it. I've done the n64digital hdmi mod which is annoying and small. Might do a GBA one instead or also at some point as well.
I also love the pixel grid. The one thing I would say that their screens still need is different colour modes to emulate what a real screen looks like. The default colour data taken from the GBC and fed into a backlit LCD results in an oversaturated colour palette - it goes from pastelle colours to really bright ones. A setting to tone the colours down to make them look a bit more washed out would be welcome.
Yeah that is like the one last thing I can think of that could be added. Other than that its pretty much perfect.
funny how I got a fully modded GBA with flashcart but i use my cheap chink handheld more since it's more portable and easier to use.
>only buying items that will eventually appreciate in value
It's $400 and will wear out eventually. I'm not going to sell it. Why would I care. Also an upgrade like that would only increase it lol.
typical, Ganker gamer retards don't even know enough about their own hobby to make money doing it
you guys being incels has nothing to do with being nerds and everything to do with the fact that you quite literally can't make money doing something even if you spend your whole life on it
fucking sad, liver king out
>typical, Ganker gamer retards don't even know enough about their own hobby to make money doing it
Buying a video game console, unboxing and using it and *at the same time* pretending it's an investment is absolutely pants-on-head retarded. Just take that money and put it in *any* mutual fund and it will produce far greater returns.
>everything you do should be monetized
suicide by age 35 i guarantee it
I can't even decipher this moron-tier schizobabble. Stop posting.
At first I thought 40fps was a meme but then I tried it on my $2000 OLED and I understand why now. You can easily crank out max settings at 4k or even 8k at 40fps instead of 120fps and it's smooth because it sits on the VRR range and you don't notice shader stutters like before when it takes your fps from 120 to 50 if your fps is 40.
Im using it right now as a dedicated PC.
Its pretty swag!
Runs pretty much all my stalker mods so im happy with it.
Anybody tried KOTOR 2 on it?
Steamies rather lie than admit the first go round for the machine is ass.
"playtime 7 min" typical hoarder behavior, collects all the games/installs them and never plays them.
anyone using windows on deck? i heard its performing better than linux but no idea how true is that
Problem is you miss out on all the integrations built into the Linux side.
It is not performing better
I've never played a single game at 60fps. It looks weird.
FUCK THE SWITCH!
Steam deck is quite literally a suboptimal console experience, only you also don't own your games on top of it.
>don't own games
Well, technically, you don't even have to buy games if you don't want to.
And you can mod games like on pc. That moron is real dumb
well you can install anything you want on the steam deck. you could install windows and EGS if you wanted
>only you also don't own your games on top of it
It's a PC you dumb moron. You can find a usb adapter that lets you hook up a floppy drive to it and install original Wolfenstein 3D on it that Carmack personally shipped to you 30+ years ago if digital games are triggering you so much.
>Steam deck is quite literally a suboptimal console experience
You can install mods on games, so really it's a massively superior console experience.
why would being able to change stuff like hz, fps limits, gpu, tdp be a meme? wow, sure is horrible being able to control how battery-intensive you want the unit to be. fucking retarded nintendofag.
Nah. Being able to play gta iv anywhere makes it worth it
Also Depends on what you’re trying to play. I’d rather stick with steamos for the same reason I like iPhone over android. I don’t want to “tinker” and spend hours customizing or personalizing. I’d rather just play on the steamos and play games from the steam store. Also being able to play steam games with console simplicity is great.
Glad the grape foxes have moved on from 'steamies don't even play games on the deck!' to a different, if equally retarded, angle.
redpill me on OLED.. People always talked about how great the VITA was because of the OLED screen but then later said it was bad/not needed for the Steam Deck
OLED is nice to have but not a must
I have a Deck and a Switch OLED and I like the OLED screen way more, but nothing is worse on an OLED than seeing PS3 era games struggling to hit 30fps
are games that are native to steamdeck(pc) and switch always better on steamdeck or do you still prefer playing some things on switch for form factor?
I own both and the form factor is pretty much exactly the same, the Switch just has all-round worse performance. I use a Hori split pad too, which makes it even more similar in feel. Switch has exclusives and an OLED, but that's really the full list of advantages.
It really depends. For games with high quality 2D art I'll usually go the OLED route. I've played a lot of Streets of Rage 4 and Pocky & Rocky Reshrined on it recently. I also like the GBA emulator on the Switch (>paying for roms, I know but I'm part of a family plan so it's like $10 a year), and even though I have the option of playing all of those and more on the Deck, they definitely look nicer on the OLED.
Basically I'm much more inclined to play a game on the Switch vs the Deck if it runs well and the colors are a big part of the art direction. I haven't picked up Octopath 2 quite yet but I will be getting it on the Switch when I do
Adding to this, I also factor in if a game has crossplay or not, and where most of my friends will be playing it. I actually went with Shredder's Revenge on PC over Switch because more of my friends were playing the PC version
Its okay when steam deck do it
>if only there was some way to play pc games on the go
I'll just bust that out with a trackball mouse on the bus thank you friend
maybe you could afford a car if you didnt buy retarded tech like the steam deck
I own a very nice car, but it's far cheaper and easier to take a bus in and out of the city. Plus, I get to play videogames on my commute.
But I don't want a laptop, I want a handheld.
The vent at the top smells good when it's on
Anybody have a spare $400?
>wtf this can't even play cyberpunk for 7 hours at 60fps
Would it be a bad idea to replace my switch with one of these?
barely use my switch but i would probably emulate it for a few games, what is the state of emulation like on the switch?
people want to tell you that amd sucks for emulation pc even though steam deck uses all amd parts and runs emulators like a dream
Mobile gaming is a meme. It caters to the lowest denominator of people with full blown adhd
