Alex has an arc it's about him realizing he's a disappointment to his father who never actually shows up in the game for trying to rescue a vaguely ethnic girl instead of getting a job.
He is more boring than anything, if he was a cunt 100% of the time he would at least be somewhat interesting. The side characters don't help either as they are also quite boring.
If alex is a flawed character you aren't supposed to support, why can you literally pick his dialogue at several points in the game and decide what party members he kisses?
If alex is a flawed character that is supposed to grow from the start of the game, then why does he literally learn nothing, make the same mistakes the whole game despite everyone blatantly telling him what he needs to do in order to avoid fucking up, and then literally asks (you) to beat the final boss for him?
there's no reading of the character that actually checks out with the story he's in, he's just kind of a bad character in a bad game

Maybe if he actually did develop through the game and every other character wasn't as big as a giga-autist as he was it could've worked.
The problem with postmodern media is that it can only work once or twice until the trick of "deconstruction" becomes old. And because postmodern doesn't produce anything new, it just run out of things to deconstruct, eventually. You can see how it pretty much faced the wall in recent decade, when people are complaining about literally every architype of a character or a story ever. This is why modernism is timeless.
It's hilarious how you can tell this thread was made by the game dev because literally nobody else but himself thinks that Alex has any kind of progression in the game.
He doesn’t progress it’s a closed loop. The actual goal of the game is to break the loop by getting the 3rd ending but nobody ever found it.

I don't get what the point of reality breaking down was. Was it just to have a moment at the end where everyone turns into a wacky ms paint drawing for 5 minutes for teh lulz or was it just to cover up the writing inconsistencies? The rest of the game functions without there being a broken reality so I don't see why they felt the need to add it to the game.
The whole point of the game is that you’re being shown Alex’s personal reality, it’s breaking because the framework of how he views the world is breaking.
But the game doubles down on the assertion that Alex is the center of the universe, to the point that he's the most important person by far in every conceivable universe (including yours)
That entire section of the game takes place in Alex’s head, he retreated inward to reset his delusion of being important and a victim
