It is ass. When Witcher 2 came out, the nearly unanimous advice given was to read the plot synopsis for 1, but skip playing it. Since Witcher 3 was massively popular and successful, though, all the contrarian fricknuggets are now acting like it's the best one.
It’s the worst in the series imo. The combat is shit, dialogue is awkward, but the music is the best in the series. The music makes this game imo. Listen to the OST if you get a chance. It’s perfection. I just started replaying it on my Deck and it didn’t age well.
>the music is the best in the series
Marcin Przybyłowicz runs circles around whatever random Polack they brought in off the street and paid in pierogies and vodka to shit out the soundtrack for W1.
It’s garbage but I kind of love it.
Full of misguided gameplay mechanics, bad translations, weird errors (for example the “available for skinning” thing that keeps popping up but doesn’t mean anything), dreadful backtracking, a gambling mini game that is completely rigged, the plot branches not always connecting properly (NPCs are at two locations at once for different quests), etc.
However, it’s one of the most soulful games you will ever play, and it actually has a ton of detail and interesting branching gameplay.
Yes it is good depending on what you're looking for.
It's an A+ RPG. You won't find better.
It's a C- in the action/combat department.
Pacing is a solid B.
If you play through 2 and 3, Witcher 1 will either be your favorite Witcher or your least favorite Witcher, without exception.
You're in for a soulful experience. The only such game in the franchise, by the way.
just TW3 with severely worse graphics and no open world/more confined zones. also the combats not really great.
The combat's pretty fun once you get used to it. Also it's the best in the series
The Filter
it's great. combat needs getting used to.

what is this history revision? people said the exact opposite. witcher 2 was ass.
witcher 2 gays always have to cope. at least 3 was a decent movie, 2 is just ass.
It's the best one.

The entire series had a great OST, but The Witcher Theme (credits) is up there. It was good music.
I wonder if my framework laptop could run it with integrated graphics.
It came out in 2007, the minimum gpu is a geforce 6600. Any modern iGPU will run it.
Sweet, I'll download it tonight then
it's the best one. only gets good after chapter 2 tho tbh. unironically soijaked at the end my first playthrough.
Is a good thing is a PC only game filters the Console Black folk
soulful but flawed
Yes. It is pretty kino
It's the best

It's pretty ass. The game itself isn't bad but the constant backtracking is. I didn't feel like it was worth the boredom when I finished it.
People say the combat is terrible but I liked it.
