I wasn't sure whether to ask this here or in Ganker. It seems like it would be simple to design a game that simulates aiming with iron sights by making you need to line up the front and rear sight, controlling both with your mouse. Is there any game out there like this? Or with realistic aiming? I don't mean realistic bullet drop and ballistics, I mean an actual attempt at expressing the difficulties of actually aiming.
seems like an incredibly difficult thing to get down properly only using a mouse, possibly something you could get down with a controller but even then it kinda lacks a third input for movement
I feel like the way to do it would be to have the mouse directly control the rear sight and have a sort of return-to-center negative feedback control so that it can be very precise but still doable.
If no one has made this yet then I give my blessing to some developer to steal my idea and make millions. As long as I can play it.
no it would be awesome
It would be unrealistically bad. With a mouse + WASD to control both the front and back of the gun at the same time you'd essentially be playing as someone with Parkinson's.
You don't have to be able to move both the front and rear sight, rather you could just move the rear sight against the field upon which the front sight is placed.
I still can't get over the fact this guy wants to flip the safety before having to line up sights.
Press F to undo manual safety
>you could just move the rear sight against the field upon which the front sight is placed
That means you would not be able to perfectly aim anywhere that is not the one pixel you selected to sight.
Also, there are games which aren't cocaine shooters like CoD where you don't want to accidentally fire a gun. Even games that aren't about guns, like EVE, have a use for a safety feature.
Yes I've played ARMA I know there are games where precision is higher importance than the fun of COD, I'm sorry for laughing at you homie, I will definitely press f to push in safety for you in the future
Wait do they actually aim based on that?? Never played Tarkov so idk, but if you don't have the shadow perfectly even does the bullet effectively aim as if the reticle was off based on shadow position? Cause that's literally what I'm asking for, just in a scope instead of iron sight
i am unsure what you mean from your desription but tarkov has by far the best gunporn i know of in vidya
Yes tarkov calculates the aim based on the barrel of your weapon as the bullet actually exists in your barrel and shit
One thing i really like about tarkov is how the recoil from your second shot can impact the accuracy of your first shot
well you convinced me to try Tarkov
get the single player mod, otherwise enjoy playing against nolifers and hacking russians
It is very unfriendly too new players, learning curve is intense. Great game thougheverbeitlest.
that's retarded though. even with hyperburst memes the first bullet will always have left the barrel long before the second one is fired.
Haven't played Tarkov but this is how it works irl:
When the first bullet leaves the barrel it causes the muzzle to lift. You are controlling this muzzle rise so immediately try to lower back to aiming position, but it takes time, far longer than firing a second shot would take if you're shooting as fast as possible semi auto.
It isn't timing of bullets leaving barrel, it's timing of your arms and your eyes returning muzzle to initial position.
>the recoil from your second shot can impact the accuracy of your first shot
Is there some time travel going on here?
This seems like something that would work only in VR.
Having a character that is unable to fucking do that automatically is a gigantic handicap that would suck balls.
Better to have things like having to pull the bolt of the gun with a button, toggle safety, adjust range bearing, reload the mag, and stuff like that.
classic
Receiver and Receiver 2 are what you are explaining. Shame developers are complete buffoons
No because it can't work in a video game like it does in real life.
Verdun and the WW1 series seem to be the closest to what you mean, and aiming can be a real chore
i think there's some games out there that have delay between the front and rear sights lining up so when you move your character takes a moment to recenter everything
shame my brain is fried by drug use too muchh to give a name
>line up the front and rear sight, controlling both with your mouse
I am genuinely curious how you expect this to work.
ok I admit my description is retarded, what I meant and was imagining is more like
I think Trespasser had that mechanic
what was that white spider/claw looking thing they made a while back as a mouse alternative for half life 2 and cryostasis, which could "simulate" weight in physics/objects and stuff?
it feels like something like that could work with these mechanics
There are FPS where the rear post sight sways when out of stamina or suppressed probable the best use of a mechanic like your talking about. I think it's like that in Rising storm 2 and maybe other games
i really like how escape from tarkovs scopes and sights kinda black out realisticly as you sway around or spin around
Pavlov
Onward
H3
Learned to shoot better with both eyes open in Pavlov.
Oh hey, I was thinking about this mechanic for the last year or so as well anon. You're not alone
Pic-related is vaguely similar but it isn't quite what you are looking for. Goldeneye has been interesting to learn from though.
RO2/RS, and RS2 have manual adjustments you can make to your ironsights when aiming for long shots.
Brothers In Arms 1&2 are the only games I can think of where you have to wait patiently for your soldier's nerves to calm whilst aiming without relying on a button to hold your breath. like every other FPS.
The game you are looking for and that is WAY ahead of it's time,
Is Jurassic Park Trespasser.
You could control the whole angle of your arm and had to line up shots and how you would compensate for recoil with Automatic and Semi Automatic weapons.
It's bad my guy, It's a really bad mechanic. You'll notice everything in that game was one handed because theres no way to do both hands with the mouse.
The only other game that comes to mind would be Receiver and Receiver 2. Where you have to Aim, and it'll go down the sites, and then some small adjustments.
These kind of small and reflex movements aren't really easy to do with a mouse that only has one Axis.
Combine it with any other action like moving or anything like that and you're going to have a bad time.
A game i could see this working in would be a Sniping game, Where you have a fixed position so movement isn't something you need to worry about control wise.
after looking at a few Trespasser reviews I gotta be honest, this might be the only game with what I was looking for, and yet I'm not sure I want it anymore
This is too much to do with a single mouse. If you use the mouse to rotate the gun, you will not be able to rotate your head or reposition your gun. You are going to need at lest six degrees of freedom, which leaves you using digital inputs or adjusting everything one by on in sequence. You should just play Vr. It is the ideal control scheme for shooters.
that doesn't make sense because the recoil impulse takes place after the bullet has left the barrel so it can't affect the point of impact of the first shot
oh you're right they said it wrong, they meant to say the recoil from the first shot affects the aim of the second shot
