I really fricking suck at strategy games and fighting games, weirdly enough for the same reason I think. I suck at considering what my opponent might do and I suffer from choice paralysis.

Nice try OP but we're going to discuss the actual proposed topic instead of your dumb meme, also sage.

Funny, I would call myself decent at Necrodancer, but not typical rhythm games.
Maybe it's just passable rhythm combined with all the Diablo and Diablo-likes I played growing up.

    Turn based anything
None of them have any real depth and no pressure to actually make quick decisions so you can always just find the best with no stress. It's absurdly boring and always puts me to sleep.

the trick to rhythm games is to time off of the music and not the on screen indicators which always seem off to me

      Anonymous

A good game will let you adjust visual and audio delay separately. If it doesn't let you do that it's a terrible rhythm game.

      Anonymous

The onscreen indicator is just there to give you the rhythm at a glance. The trick is to start thinking in that rhythm.

Just to confirm, aphantasia is another fake """medical condition""" that zoomie Redditors created so they can add it to their already-long list of other illnesses they've self-diagnosed themselves with, right? Remember when people were bullied and shamed for having mental problems instead of wearing them like a badge of honor? Let's go back to that. Suicide numbers have increased since people started flaunting their shit, so maybe it does have an adverse affect.

no its real. ive spent years trying to determine if it is actually describing a real condition or just people getting tripped up because they interpret the explanation differently. Its hard to compare your personal sensory experience to someone elses after all. But i can conclude it exists.

i finally got it figured out talking to my friend. we are both into psychology and philosophy and the occult and so have the language and concepts to convey this kind of thing. I have aphantasia and he doesnt.
When i 'imagine' something im still thinking about it visually, i can consider or inspect/rotate it in my head as my attention shifts around the thing exactly as if im looking at it. Its not like a meme i read once which explains it as just 'knowing a list of properties'. Its just blackness, but instead of 'seeing nothing' its more like 'looking at an invisible thing'. Im still looking at it mentally, its just not triggering the visual aspect of it like you would have in a dream. All my dreams have life like vividness by the way. His dont, even though hes so good at visualization he doesn't even have to close his eyes and can 'hallucinate' things. Which sounds pretty handy to me.

Hey, that is some nice perspective.
Most of those aligning to the meme hasn't been linked to aphantasia, you might even not have it even though you can't visualize things in your brain. It's a real condition but inability to properly imagine isn't always related to having apantasia

turn based games. just not enough action for me to keep me interested most of the time unless it's classic fallouts + tactics (which i played in real time thrice) or div OS games

Have you tried Divinity 2 with a friend? That's the only real way I've gotten invested into a turn based/non-action CRPG. Only controlling one character, and having someone to bounce stupid ideas off, really helps I think. I think the varied interactions you have helps too.
The same thing applies for World in Conflict, since multiplayer stuck you on a team, each player controlling separate parts of your side.

fair enough anon. the game has to be something special for me to play it if it's turn based. i hate nothing more than

Fighting games I guess. I don't have the drive to practice and lab out a character.

for me its roguelikes/lites. every time i see a new flavor of the month roguelike/lite i think "wow that looks cool", want to play it, do so for a couple hours and then ultimately drop it shortly in because i cant get past the earlier stages. its usually this need to clear the first couple stages as good as possible which leads to me starting over and over again because i made a slight mistake. when i played enter the gungeon on switch i got to stage 5 once, hardly got to stage 4 and would usually die well before stage three. i would always try to beat stage one with no damage taken and only using the starter weapon. i would try to get to the oubliette and do the same there. then on stage 2 you have to carry that shield you got in the oubliette to a certaib room without taking damage again. so thats three stages id force myself to clear with no damage. and i think i pulled it off once. when i later played it on pc again it was way easier because of mouse aiming but this mentality to always try and get the perfect start instead of playing the cards that ive been dealt is what quickly sucks the fun out of any rougelike/lite for me. and if the game is so easy that i can beat a run after just a couple attempts i will usually not bother playing again. risk of rain comes to mind, the game broke open completely on just my second run where i was completely invincible and killed anything with a single attack.
