oh shit...I've seen this game a lot in 3x3's on Ganker the cover art piqued my interest. so it's a rail shooter huh? if there was one rail shooter you HAD to recommend people play, would it be this one? cuz otherwise, I don't really have any interest or reason to play other rail shooters, but maybe you have a special one up your sleeve
it's treasure, so it's got the pedigree.
that said, you've got the wrong attitude. any of the games in this thread could end up being your favorite, but if you really want to rank the hell out of them, you'll just end up fooling yourself into not having fun.
>any of the games in this thread could end up being your favorite, but if you really want to rank the hell out of them, you'll just end up fooling yourself into not having fun.
eh. just don't like playing the same type of games unless it's a sequel, so I can cope it gets even better. or the other games have SIGNIFICANTLY different core gameplay. I very much doubt what you're saying is true. I'm sure this could be said for technically any genre, like metroidvanias, but there has to be a way to like make the case for which one(s) are absolute peak.
Like for example, everyone knows you have to play Super Metroid and SOTN(trash). But also Hollow Knight, which is undeniably the peak of the genre.
You very clearly don't want to rank them because the genre is obviously special to you and you'd rather more people appreciate them in general. I understand that, but I get burnt and lose interest in games EXTREMELY fast unless they're very compelling, and if one game doesn't end up "suiting" me, I'll probably cast away the whole genre since I never had any compelling reason to play them in the first place. I'll probably just go search up Sin and Punishment after this, but I just wanted to say this anyway.
If you're just saying 'games liek this' then it's obvious that you don't understand what about the game made you like it in the first place. that being the case, any other game in the genre could do something that star fox 64 did, but better. ergo, yes, any of them could end up being your favorite.
my point is, if you keep thinking at the level of vague impressions of better or worse, you won't know what to look for.
i'll be clear, there's nothing objective about any of this. I don't even particularly like shmups. I don't even know why i started this topic, i suppose it's just always pissed me off that people don't understand the subjectivity of it all, and think that best-of lists are god's honest truth for what is and isn't fun.
>if there was one rail shooter you HAD to recommend people play, would it be this one?
It would be the Wii sequel, but the original is great, too. Both games let you: >move your character and aim your crosshair independently >reflect enemy projectiles back at them
Those things alone set S&P games apart.
Because they have no clue what to do with the IP, clearly. Honestly I'd rather it just die and let the fans take over than have another remake of lylat wars with a shit gimmick bolted on top.
you zooms are fucking retarded. no one gives a shit about your semantics. just play sin and punishment or pd zwei and have a good time. or dont. better yet. have fun psyching yourself out of every creative work with such a shitty attitude.
Trying to talk sense into zoomers is a lost cause, I gave up years ago. I've never seen another generation outside maybe literal baby boomers act like they do.
nope, nothing
Project Wingman?
Have you tried Rez?
Ex-Zodiac
forced soul
This, but its not finished yet so I'd tell OP to hold off.
the other series entries in the same genre
i think there's like, one? not including 1&2
Panzer Dragoon
There are better games in that genre even on the n64.
Panzer is shit, but zwei is decent.
Kid Icarus? Feel like it surpassed anything anyone could do with rail shooters, it's just unfortunate that the controls give unironic cramps
>panzer dragoon zwei
>vanark
>g vector
sin and punishment shits on ki from such stratospheric heights.
>sin and punishment

Fur Squad
>so good that nintendo kept rehashing it after 3 failed games
bros....
why is this IP completely ignored by Nintendo
there's so much potential for it
>there's so much potential for it
not really unless you go the starfield route which would be demented
The problem isn't that it's ignored by Nintendo, it's that the games after 64 range from mediocre to terrible.
Because they have no clue what to do with the IP, clearly. Honestly I'd rather it just die and let the fans take over than have another remake of lylat wars with a shit gimmick bolted on top.
all shigeru can think of is retelling the same story while adding lame gimmicks to shit up the gameplay
enjoy your wasted series
Is A Fox in Space the only good thing to come out from this franchise recently? And it's not even official
Like it? Sure. As good as it? Not likely.
On Steam:
>Ex Zodiac
>AstroDogs
>Whisker Squadron Survival

that isn't even a zoomer
Its a ripper, as noted in the filename.
>STEP ON THE GAS
>Caiman Here, No Problems
>Wingman dies
>Do you copy! Emergency manuevers!
Vanark for PS1
omega boost is pretty gud
The flying sections in lego star wars play exactly like this game
yes
OP, every modern console game features rumble paks be default. In fact, nintendo themselves has moved onto HD Rumble.
search steam for "on rails shooter"
