It deserves the overwhelmingly positive reviews

Yes. It has its flaws, like combat being extremely easy most of the time, but it's still really good.

Yes. Play it, 100% it, then play the sequel and 100% that.

it's decent, yeah. some of the gags don't hit though.

Absolutely, it also has great replay value where you go with different companions and do quests that you weren't able to do before
I think it also has some backtracking

My Mom and I were both addicted to Kingdom of Loathing. Very few games broadened my perspective as much as it and it holds a special place in my heart.
I tried going back and everything is different and strange and I don't have anybody to play with anymore.

I'd like to see them return to Kingdom of Loathing in a follow up game

They really shouldn't. KoL as a whole is uncomfortably dated and has a mobile-tier energy system. On top of that, they're taking the story forward for the entire Loathing universe. West is literally a sequel to Kingdom and Shadows is a sequel to West.

Cherish the memories anon, lots has changed and it might not feel the same, but you'll always remember it. Hug.

That's how I feel as well. I could never go back because it was more about chatting with my friends after class and having a way to frick around for a few hours than anything else, and I'd have to do so much wiki trawling just to catch up that it'd take away the spark. The fact RadioKoL is dead as a doornail is what really stings for me.

Yes and the sequel is also good and more of a full game.

Shadows is great, except for day 3. SIT is kind of shit.

Just because they lock the doors you don't choose. I like the final "battle" being a trap but the way they hide the choices is kinda gay.
        >Oh yeah just go back to the newspaper every fricking chapter and look shit up, peak secret gameplay

          >do the final battle
          >activate the portal
          >"Nothing happens. (This means you missed something, but that's what replays are for!)"
          >get a stupid bad ending
cool way to guarantee I have absolutely no interest in replaying a game

Did you really get turned off by getting told "hey there's an ending you aren't eligible for"? When there are two other choices for endings literally in the same room?

Yes having the fact that there's a secret good ending that I missed shoved right in my face completely killed my interest in getting the secret good ending

There's literally a good ending for pretty much every partner, and another couple endings besides that. Did you do the evil thing and get the evil bad ending? I genuinely don't understand how you got a bad ending without intending to, unless you decided the portal ending is the only ending you care about since you couldn't get it.

It wasn't a bad ending in that bad things happened, it was a bad ending in that nothing interesting happened and it was boring

I mean, it's a wrap up montage of what happens to all the npcs you interacted with and you in pretty much every ending, iirc. That wasn't interesting to you at all? Closing out the plot lines and giving you a pat on the back for finishing things and telling you what went unresolved?

I loved this game but frick is the balancing so fricking bad in the late game.
Some enemies can just kill you in a turn if they hit the right party members and you can do the same battle and beat them in a turn.
    It's insane.
I tried the dlc and got killed by rando enemies in a single turn after beating the final boss in like a single hit or two.
i tried the fight again and won cause they just attacked my other members.

You can't just stack tons of armour either but enemies can.
Half the fights just end up being lowering enemy armour so you do some fricking damage.
The second is better but still the fight are really a gamble at times.

Anybody know other gamss like this with stat checks and fun dialogue.
    I honestly love it

On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness was supposed to be pretty good for its time but it's a decade old and I'm pretty sure it was never finished. Haven't played it myself.

Precipice was actually finished. That said, 1 & 2 are bad, 3 & 4 are good.

I know nothing about this game other than that a child murderer / attempted cannibal loved playing Kingdom of Loathing. Kevin Underwood was his name, and you can read his transcript. It’s pretty crazy.
