The writing is good, literally the only thing people hate is the Disney. Look at any KH poll and you will see most play it for its story, despite what redditors would tell you. KH story is spastic and weird but it isn't shit. If it was, no one would spend years theorising over the lore

Most likely KH polls held on the weebiest websites. All the charm of these games come from the old school Disney aspects. Nomura's moron story just gets in the way. I hope Square fires him soon.

This is done horribly. Virtually every Disney thing is a butchered hackjob of some existing story done by Disney, but altered to fit into the game and have the characters interact with spiky haired Nomura characters. I don't understand who this is supposed to appeal to.

Yeah I play KH for the story to see what crazy shit Nomura and company come up with. The games play everything completely straight which I like with Disney and FF characters running around. Even if you don't like the story critical KH is so fricking fun the combat is so great

The problem with disney stuff is that it's almost entirely disconnected from the actual story and in every single game is a distraction
Do you not really like this movie? Well frick you, it's gonna be 95% of your next 2-5 hours, you might get the real game after you finish this and the other disney worlds you currently have available

And that's without even getting into the fact that this is all on purpose, and Nomura refuses to even flesh out the disney parts on their own with any supplemental material because that would bloat it even more and require more legal wrangling for the rights

            Yeah kinda
Then it was just 90% disconnected. There were intercuts of the villains working together which didn't ultimately amount to much since the princesses were just literal wall decoration, and also King Triton knew what you were but that never came up again and was only there to make him seem cooler

I think a few games use them fine. 1, BBS and 3 in particular used them better than the rest, although even though the game isn’t very good I also thought using the more niche worlds as sleeping worlds in DDD was fine. 1’s is obviously the best because it was more directly designed as a Disney RPG, it was only afterward that KH became its own thing starring Disney worlds

Considering that the series' real creator (Shinji Hashimoto) left after KH2 (being executive producer doesn't count) and after that by that point two of the three writers of KH1 had also left (the other remaining one wrote coded and birth by sleep and then left) it makes sense.

KH1FM and KH2FM have hard modes that are pretty perfect in difficulty. They scale you up if you're under-leveled, which makes LV1 runs more interesting, since you can actually plan out ways to deal tons of damage rather than smacking a boss for 20 minutes with chip damage.

Series is worth playing up to 2. Anything after is pretty mixed and only if you really want to.
KH3 has the best superbosses in the entire series, but the base game is pretty shit, so you're better off just playing it on PC with mods.

I'd recommend playing it on NG+ so you get the the new combo modifiers from the start.
Or you can use a mod that adds them in naturally as you play through the game if you're playing on pc.

Actually, do what [...] said, but before you start NG+ go back to your old save file and take pictures of all the Lucky Emblems you missed so you can get Oathkeeper right off the bat. Same with Ultima.

It'll be on PS4. What else does NG+ give? Normally I'd just start over Vanilla.

NG+ carries over keyblades, level, and abilities IIRC. Maybe also non-key items but I'm not sure. The main thing is that all the abilities they added with Re:Mind were just shoved after the final boss instead of sprinkled throughout the story like every other Final Mix game did, so NG+ is your best bet since the game is worse without those.
                As for everything else
                >Ultima is endgame and playing the minigames for it is annoying so you may as well get in on the file you already have
                >Oathkeeper only comes from getting like 80/90 lucky emblems

                >there's a reskin of the olympus keyblade you get for getting perfect ratings on every single cooking recipe
                But otherwise that's about it.

Ng+ let's you carry over all your keyblades and it let's you keep the combo modifiers they added in with the release of remind to make Sora keyblade combos attack way more smooth and snappy.
In a vanilla playthrough you get them after you beat the game.
They keyblade thing is handy since you won't have to grind out all the lucky emblems for Oathkeeper or do all the minigames for the ultima weapon material.
All keyblades are reset to lvl 1 so you do have to grind out the upgrade material with the gummiship.

Gameplay trumps all and the combat of CoM was clearly designed around a small 2d arena where you either use full screen attacks or get all the enemies on one side to blast them. Also made sleights and smart deck building feel far more rewarding than the much larger 3d arenas in RE:CoM.
Generally speaking, it's very unfortunate that so many people got filtered by deck building despite being very satisfying both for combat and the overall gameplay of collecting cards and building decks in very precise manners to keep sleight combos going even after discarding certain cards and reloading as well as building around enemy/boss cards.

I don't care moose, anyone can emulate both and clearly see that more care and attention for cutscenes was put for the PS2 version while the GBA game was just a bridge to tendies from sony which came to DS and then Switch. And in both games you can break everything with sleights/summons/0

              >Generally speaking, it's very unfortunate that so many people got filtered by deck building despite being very satisfying both for combat and the overall gameplay of collecting cards and building decks in very precise manners to keep sleight combos going even after discarding certain cards and reloading as well as building around enemy/boss cards.
if you actually set up the deck to use sleights you've already won. the card break system means the enemies won't be able to attack you when they can't find any cards high value enough to break your sleight spam.
you could also just pump health and attack. the game is easy enough that doing that, equipping some healing spells and mashing X will carry you through proud.
as an action game it's terrible and as a card game it never presents enough challenge to make you pay attention. you don't need to mathematically calculate probability matrices when you're playing poker against a 4 year old.

              >agreed which is why I'm not playing an action game where your sword swing is missing half its frames and plays at a third of a reasonable speed
              >reasonable speed
the gameplay is all cards which are all entered with a standardized input. That complaint would make more sense if you had a basic, non card reliant attack.
              >if you actually set up the deck to use sleights you've already won.
Which requires actually building and setting up the deck which requires playing the game and acquiring the cards necessary through gameplay
              >you could also just pump health and attack. the game is easy enough that doing that, equipping some healing spells and mashing X will carry you through proud.
You can play plenty of games mindlessly spamming, that doesn't remove from the overall potential of the gameplay. You might as well throw out all the potential of Devil May Cry if you're going that route.
              >as an action game it's terrible and as a card game it never presents enough challenge to make you pay attention. you don't need to mathematically calculate probability matrices when you're playing poker against a 4 year old.
Every KH can be made braindead by relying on certain spells/strategies. Difficulty is not determinative, in of itself, of the overall quality of the gameplay, especially where gameplay is more than the actual combat.

I don't share his complaints, Dumbo, Time Splicer, Rag and golden 0s broke the game before I thought to myself "le sword swings in this command deck game for GBA no work".
And for a narrative heavy game, I'll take the better presentation at the cost of some personal pet peeves of the translation between GBA and PS2.

I never felt like I lost much outside of the cubic level design being understandable on GBA rather than being lazy on PS2 but whatever.

I don't hate RE:CoM, I can play it just fine. I just think the OG is superior gameplay wise and am just bemoaning the general distaste people have for the combat system, regardless of whether it's the OG or 3d re-release. They tried a different combat style entirely from the mainline games and actually pulled it off well and made collecting cards engaging with a large number of different broken combinations. Even if people subjectively do not like it, to call the game objectively bad from a gameplay perspective seems unfair and unfounded unless people were filtered by deck building and couldn't properly engage with it.

I love the combat in CoM and it actually has multiple playstyles because I never did the Sonic Blade or whatever spam. I mostly did 3x magic cards with the corresponding enemy card to basic 1-2 shot bosses but until then, I'd have to be really fast with deck breaking because I never leveled HP once in any playthrough of that game I've done.

It's better than KH3's combat, especially with critical pigeonholing you into summon spam.

Playing CoM with a pure Magic/Summon/Item deck (plus a single 0 Kingdom Key because you can't make a deck without an Attack Card) really changes how you view the game, it's great. You really have to learn Magic Sleights, leverage the amount of cards you have, make use of Ethers/Mega-Ethers, keep resistances in mind and capitalize on weaknesses. It's so much fun, I'd recommend it on a repeat playthrough without a doubt.

My post addressed this which you conveniently ignored to make a bad faith and intellectually dishonest reply. KH 1 and 2 are easy and the game doesn't force you to engage in it if you'd rather just mindlessly spam and rely on certain broken spells/abilities. Same with Devil May Cry or TWEWY.
A game doesn't need to "force" you to engage with its gameplay in a way that's more enjoyable. That's a personal problem you seem to have. It's more satisfying to build specialized decks and you need to go out of your way to get certain cards no matter what broken combo you go for. Same with Devil May Cry where the game doesn't force you to not spam, it's just more satisfying to rack up style points.

The writing is preposterous and basically the ultimate culmination of man’s hubris injected into a script. It’s fascinating based solely off how arrogant one has to be to put Donald Duck against an edgy anime villain and expect the audience to sit and take the story seriously. To see Disney level funding combined with pervert Japanese businessmen JRPG style writing is astounding.

I think Days feels great, personally. It's kind of got the inverse issue that KH2 does; both games have a really nice feeling moveset, but where KH2's issue is only throwing you at enemies largely incapable of handling it until near the end of the game, Days gives you a moveset designed to make air combat more of a commitment while still feeling snappy and throws you had a million airborn HP sponges.

It's very telling that the main cope for the gameplay is that it being ass makes the game more immersive.
I played everysingle kh game back to back before 3 came out and days was by far the mosy miserable experience.

I think there's an important distinction to be made in the WAY Days fails, though. Roxas feels good to control, even if the enemies are designed like shit. BBS doesn't feel good to control AND the enemies are designed like shit.

                >Every keyblade having it's own combo is cool
This. From every Keyblade "evolution chain" having a different moveset to every other character, who you'll never play outside of Multiplayer, having at LEAST 2 gameplay styles (often more), even the secret characters like Mickey/Donald/Goofy.
They put in an almost concerning amount of effort into how characters play, but not how good it felt to play. Which I think is funny for h.a.n.d's first outing, considering how good they got afterwards. And with both Re:Coded and NEO:TWEWY under their belt, I can understand why I hear shit like "Man, I hope Days gets a remake." so often.

                >Nah every keyblade controls like shit.
I personally disagree. The ground combos consistently feel good and while the air combos are sluggish, I do like what they were going for with making air combat high commitment while still keeping the low-commitment air movement with stuff like Air Slide.
It completely falls apart because the game keeps throwing fast-moving aerial HP sponges at you, but I like the idea.

It genuinely manages to take the command deck system and wrangle it into something that feels as fluid and natural as KH1/KH2, at least once you get used to the restrictions of DS controls. (8 way D-Pad movement, No right stick meaning Camera control has to be mapped to R+D-Pad)
Re:Coded's big problems are primarily that despite its systems being so good it keeps having to default to stupid minigame sections that feel mediocre at best and that it's got the KH1 world rehash issue CoM does.

Air-stepping, air guarding, and attack cancelling have to be permanent additions to the series. They make combat SO much more fluid.

Theyre very charming and endearing games that unfortunately peaked on the PS2. The series plot and lore is so convoluted that, after following this series since childhood, I checked out after KH3 dropped. Gameplay and stories on the non-numbered titles are pretty hit-or-miss. I think KH1 and 2 are best played in your teens though; they genuinely feel like magical experiences that a jaded adult just looking for a dopamine hit cant begin to care for.

I think Days does such a fantastic job with the gameplay-story experience - even if its unintentional - that its one of my favorite titles in the entire series.

        Anonymous

Days makes more sense when you remember it's a DS game and the missions are usually short enough to squeeze some time in for a handheld game, which is why it isn't as recommended to try and play it all in a few sittings. The magic system is also neat since different tiers of magic actually function differently and it makes sense to bring a healthy variety. It's also better when you realize you actually need to give a damn about your set up and you can't really focus on just one build.

That being said, the gameplay is still ass, the stealth missions are not fun, the "stare at four cracks in the different walls of the world" missions are uninteresting, boss health is too high, and Mission Mode is balanced around multiple people playing rather than one, making things more tanky, despite the fact the idea of playable characters to choose from made it worth some experimenting. Doesn't help there's one level of cure that sets a healing spot on the ground which is fine if there's others playing, but worthless if you're by yourself.

In 2002, the novelty of Final Fantasy characters and Disney characters, existing in the same universe, was so fricking wild, that people had to see it for themselves.
That novelty has since worn off.

the story is very clearly "i'm gonna throw dozens of plot points to be solved later but i'm also gonna think what they mean when i get there" but the gameplay is tight and if final fantasy x disney crossover sounds appealing to you you'll enjoy it.
1 - com - 2 tell a complete story. do watch com's cutscenes on yt if you find the game boring.
after that stop caring for the lore and just enjoy the gameplay, the series is cringekino enough that it may still entertain you and the production value is still amazing throughout

also, back then both companies were at their peak. Disney was starting to falter a bit, but it was still coming off the excellent 90s renaissance, while Square was completely blowing everyone's minds wtih FF10 and FF7 was a certified milestone of gaming by then.

2's critical difficulty is what every hard difficulty should be for me. High risk, high reward. i don't like when harder just means "enemies have more health", it just makes the game spongy and boring

KH1 and KH2 are pretty good action RPGs with exceptional qualities.( KH1 has a great sense of exploration and the most understandable plot of the series while KH2 has very frantic and fun combat with some of the best bosses in the series.) Past KH2 is where the plot starts to get funky, but it's perfectly understandable if you pay attention. I won't blame you for calling it quits when you get to the mobile games tho.

The plot was basically some old butthole wanted to blow up the universe and a series of meddling kids try to stop him.

The writing is shit. It's very obvious after a while that they don't even have a plan during the writing of each game let alone across the series. It's all ass pulls and cool imagery. The plot is shallow cookie cutter JRPG shit, the characters almost never develop, dramatic arcs flatline before they can go anywhere.
However, they're very fun action RPGs. Kingdom Hearts is the perfect series for skipping cutscenes and playing out of order because the plot is terrible and the games are very fun.

is this the guy that draws all the gay fat guys?

Gameplay trumps all and the combat of CoM was clearly designed around a small 2d arena where you either use full screen attacks or get all the enemies on one side to blast them. Also made sleights and smart deck building feel far more rewarding than the much larger 3d arenas in RE:CoM.
Generally speaking, it's very unfortunate that so many people got filtered by deck building despite being very satisfying both for combat and the overall gameplay of collecting cards and building decks in very precise manners to keep sleight combos going even after discarding certain cards and reloading as well as building around enemy/boss cards.

Writing is good until a dip at BBS and then a major crash into trash at DDD. The fact the majority of people still claim that KH2 is "confusing" shows people don't pay attention to anything and you can throw their opinion in the trash because of that. They will actually complain that everything isn't explained early on, when the whole point of the first half of that game is Sora being confused and trying to figure out what's going on.

The Command Board was really fun and every playthrough I end up spending a few hours doing it partly for easy leveling commands for synthesis but also because it's fun.

I actually never did this as a kid, I just angered it out, the Cinderella stuff with Ventus and some Vanitas fights made me tense. But I think I just got used to playing around set commands instead of getting better ones (which sucked in hindsight). still love my mine + shotlock duels.

My only complaints about synthesis were the weird rules for the results of anything deeper than ra>ga and elemental Raid moves. If they told you the results instead of having them be [???] it'd be much more enjoyable since I'd rather just use a guide at that point. Locking skills behind synthesis was also moronic.

Its shitty anime and disney blended into mush so the writing is cringeno matter how you look at it. The gameplay is fine if your into flashy anime hack n slashes. -Despite it's problems, KH1 was a heartfelt hero's journey adventure that while dark, had perfectly good reason to be with the Disney elements actually mattering.
-Chain of Memories was ass that introduced one of the worst elements of the series (Games based entirely around one-note gimmicks that you need to play for story reasons) but at least it expanded Riku's arc.
-KH2 has flaws (Plot starts to become to shounen-y and unecessary retcons.) but at least ends the series on a perfectly conclusive ending.
Every game afterwards is series-ruining horseshit with BBS ruining the world-building and KH3 making it unsalvageable

Kingdom Hearts 2 is one of the best games of my youth, alongside shit like Majoras Mask, Devil May Cry 3 and Final Fantasy IX. It's that perfect brand of softcore edge-kino that we just don't get these days, blended seamlessly with amazing gameplay.

Of course, the story is complete shit, but you learn to love Nomuras horrible clownlike writing, as it makes some sense in this moron universe he has created. Sadly the writing grew progressively more terrible as the series went along, and like a malignant tumor it ended up killing the franchise. KH 3 was just a terrible fricking game, Osaka team can't craft quality ludo. Also Haley Joel Osment turned into a fat pussy.

It’s really not. The first game has genuinely good writing (though you must keep in mind that it’s written to be like a playable Disney movie). The sequels have some dumb shit in their stories, but also have their moments too.

KH3 is honestly probably the ugliest game of the series, though I personally can't blame them too hard when they had to switch engines a year in. KH4 is a bit harder to read because Nomura stated in interviews that Quadratum is specifically meant to look different from anything else in the series, so there's no telling what the rest of the game is going to look like.
Personally, I just want them to fix the fricking hands. Hands in KH3 looked so gross.

          Anonymous

Dogshit. Every single KH game from 1 to DDD (except CoM since it's a sprite-based game, good sprites too) has had a consistent style. PS2, PSP, 3DS, even the more low-res DS textures, all of it was very cohesive. One of the more impressive things about the franchise. Then KH3 comes out and it looks like they fricking HIRED THAT GUY for the most plastic UE4 look I've ever seen, which clashes twice as hard whenever they have a short flashback and suddenly everything looks way better for a minute. I hope they find a middle ground for the old look and whatever they were going for with 3.
Also the KH3 outfit isn't that bad, they made a version of it in the old artstyle for MoM and it looked fine.

It's mid that drops to bad.
First game is okay in a mysterious, surreal, wacky kind of way. It's a pretty standard hero arc but is at least okay at that.
Second games tries to be deep but isn't. At least the enemies are mildly interesting since many are FF style humans.
Third is irredeemably trash, it barely even has a story. 90% of the game just wastes your time and the last couple hours is the conclusion of the plot which is also really dumb.
Days was the closest they got to decent writing in the series. Relatively generic tragedy plot, but at least it is an actual tragedy without some ass-pull (not until 3 at least).
BBS was mildly entertaining if you approach it from the perspective of watching total morons get each other killed pointlessly.
All the others are shit. Sorry.

The OG was good. Simplicity in design itself. A coming of age story about two friends fighting over a girl´s heart. The whole light and darkness thing was super simple and the disney worlds make perfect sense. KH2 is where things start to get complicated albeit it´s still to an acceptable degree with all the hollows and nobodies and all that. The way they try to actually paint the studies of the heart as some science is cheesy and cringe as frick though but i guess the refined combat makes up for the game´s shortcomings. Plus, it´s still kind of personal for a kid to try to find and save his lost friend.

KH BBS already starts to spiral things out of control with characters that look like other characters and forced connections of the heart and a whole WoT´s about the original world and a keyblade war and you get the idea. The rest of the games double down on that and KH3 is just an underwhelming conclusion to the whole thing that took too long to happen to be meaningful.

Not shit, but it's writing is very earnest. It never falls into memes, marvel quips, or self-aware bullshit. That also means when it goes full shonen bullshit with Disney characters, it can feel somewhat cringe if you are trying to take it too seriously.
Beyond the story, the combat, music, visual style, monster and character design, and basically everything else about the games tend to range from good to amazing. Shimomura's music and the Heartless designs could carry any game.

2 was also fine but did venture into the dumb Nomura writing that would get even dumber afterwards.
Honestly, I still love the series now for what it's worth but it's more on just wanting to see what other insane shit Nomura will think up. If anything, I do appreciate that the series has never really tried to modernize all that much for its story. For better or for worse, you could probably trick someone into thinking that DDD and 3 were made around the same timespan as 2FM minus the use of UE4.

Kingdom Hearts is the best way to introduce younger gamers into Hack n Slash/Action. Also the music, in-engine+FMV cutscenes and special effects are all 10/10 Square. Especially in 1, they really reward the player for learning weaknesses, telegraphs and audio cues a like a proper game should.

I wouldn't say KH writing is bad. More an acquired taste that somehow makes people mad as frick over simple identity theft and the "robot gains feelings" plot under the lens of "meatsack with n o h e a r t gains feelings" and "T W O A N S E M S ? "

Don't let anybody tell you Kingdom Hearts 3 dialogue is normal. It's unbearably awkward, poorly written, poorly paced. It has bad pacing but the dialog just isn't conversational, everybody is making a declaration when they speak, they're not having a conversation.

Every line of dialogue I've heard in every cutscene is padded so heavily with silence on both sides. Every scene hangs just slightly too long before the next cut; every pan is stunningly slow and extended. It's so off-putting, and I'm just really genuinely curious if there's an explanation for why it ended up this way? Again, this is wholly separate from the content of dialogue itself and the writing overall, but rather the way it's performed and edited. I'm well past the Mount Olympus stuff and every cutscene has been like this. And this all happens while characters are standing dead still in an empty room, often without even any background music, occasionally gesticulating; predictable enough for JRPG characters, maybe, but animating the usually expressive Disney characters so lifelessly makes that stuff feel really off-brand. That might not be fixable, but having a good editor come in and simply chop out out the dead air between lines would have gone a long way to making it all feel less stilted.

I really liked the Forms underneath the Keyblade Transformations. You had the Strength one (this time you can use magic thank god), the Magic one, the Defensive one, and the Speed one. It felt like a neat way to fully 'spec' into a certain attribute. It's just a damn shame that they're all locked to Keyblade Transformations, so you'll never be able to appreciate them properly. Should've been their own Drive System with Keyblade Transformations left on their dumb 'Arrow' system.

One of my bigger qualms with 3 is that you had a decade of games between 2 and 3 that tried a bunch of different things and the ONLY thing they brought over were terrible fricking status effects. And then they made them so rare that their accessories meant to counter them feel worthless. Weave in some of the neater abilities into Sora's usable kit, so much is wasted. What could have been, I suppose.

That’s the door to Kingdom Hearts, as far as we know it’s inside the realm of darkness, which is likely why Ansem called it the door to darkness and why he thought KH was endless darkness. All the other instances of KH appearing are it being summoned to somewhere else, it should normally be in there

Realm of Darkness, KH is slumbering deep within it, the Door itself has light from KH.

      Anonymous

It was a door to the Realm of Darkness, which contained Kingdom Hearts.
Basically, the rough plan of every villain (for the most part) so far has been a different method of summoning either "a" or "the" Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts is the sum total of all (or at least an unbelievably massive number of) hearts— more specifically, "the" Kingdom Hearts is The Heart of All Worlds and The Heart of All People.
      >Ansem
Formed "a" Kingdom Hearts made of the Hearts of All Worlds by nuking tons of worlds. This sent the hearts of those worlds to the Realm of Darkness, where they converged into Kingdom Hearts.
      >Xemnas
Used the Keyblade Wielder to collect The Hearts of All People and form "a" Kingdom Hearts at TWTNW. Basically just redirected freed hearts towards TWTNW through (lol magic) and let them coalesce into Kingdom Hearts.
      >Xehanort
Summoning "The" Kingdom Hearts through two different methods. The first involves a direct clash between Pure Light and Pure Darkness. Initially did this by heart-lobotomizing Ven to make Vanitas. Upon clashing, this summons the χ-blade, which is more or less just the car keys to summon "The" Kingdom Hearts.
Later on, in KH3, he performs a different χ-blade summoning ritual which involves having 13 strong darknesses clash in short succession with 7 strong lights. This probably related to some bullshit from the mobile game about how "Darkness" was a fricked up elder god that got split into 13 pieces but it hasn't been elaborated on yet.

Why does Namine look like that (doesn't look like Kairi)?
Also, if a Nobody is the body of a strong willed person after they die or became a Heartless, how can Sora & Roxas and Kairi & Namine all have bodies at the same time? Where does the extra body come from?

Basically, the state of the characters is this:
      >Person
      Body, Heart, Mind/Soul
      >Heartless
Formed by the darkness in the heart or forced extraction of the heart; consists either of pure darkness (pureblood heartless) or a heart sealed in a shell (emblem heartless)
      >Nobody
Body with a mind strong enough to stabilize it after losing its heart. Will eventually re-develop a heart if left to its own devices long enough, though this process can be sped up by defeating both the Nobody and the Heartless to "recomplete" the two.
      >Lingering Will
Mind so fricking mad that it stabilized itself in Terra's armor.

Essentially, after Hollow Bastion up until the start of KH2, Sora is technically a heartless by standard classification. At that point, Roxas awakens in Twilight Town as a body stabilized by Sora's strong will, but because of Kairi's lighthax he doesn't actually have Sora's mind, so he's just empty. Enough stimulation causes him to develop a mind of his own, and further stimulation eventually causes him to develop his own heart. Depending on who you ask, this was expidited by Roxas possible "containing" Ventus's heart without claiming it as his own.
Namine is canonically a complete freak of nature that shouldn't exist. She's basically Kairi's nobody, which shouldn't happen because Princesses of Heart don't have the Darkness in them to trigger the creation of a Heartless and thus a nobody; their minds stay with their hearts and their bodies just become empty vessels. Namine exists because Kairi's heart was in Sora when he turned himself into a heartless, but since she doesn't have a body to have occupied her existence is just completely baffling to everyone.

Post-KH2, Roxas (who by that point had formed his own heart) gets trapped inside Sora due to Sora reclaiming his body. The way they get around this is by giving Roxas an empty replica to use as a body.

        Anonymous

Basically the process itself is a sort of natural law, and takes precedence over any of the actual component parts being present to complete that process
If a heartless is formed, so will a nobody- and if there ends up being literally no body with which to make one, then reality will just bullshit a substitute into existence to fill that gap. In Sora's case this just ended up having an existing pattern to go off of

        Anonymous

        >Roxas awakens in Twilight Town as a body stabilized by Sora's strong will
But he should have Sora's body. Just like how Axel had Lea's body. I get that the appearance changed due to Ventus shenanigans, but the body appearance aside should be Sora's, shouldn't it? And when Sora gets his human form back, how does he get his body back, yet Roxas also still has Sora's body?

Kairi being a princess of heart and having her heart inside of Sora when he stabbed himself is when everything went breasts up. And then using her disney princess powers she brought shadow heartless Sora back into human form. When Sora stabbed himself it made Roxas and Namine from his and Kairi's heart.

        >When Sora stabbed himself it made Roxas and Namine from his and Kairi's heart.
But where did Namine's body come from? And how did Roxas keep a body when Sora's got his back? Where did the 2nd body come from?

In KH1 Sora's body dissolves away into light, this is the natural process of death in KH.
Through physical willpower the body recoalesced itself into Roxas, which is why he shows up in Twilight Town.
Its why the lesser nobodies look like fricked up puppets, they aren't direct zombies they are the dissipating remnants of a body that pulled itself back together as best it could.
Namine is again an anomaly with a paradoxical origin that just coalesced with no clear material of origin although if it bothers you that much you can just say it was excess light because Kairi is a being of pure light.

To answer the first question, he does have Sora's body. Yeah, there's the whole Ventus bullshit, but he literally does have Sora's body. When calling Sora post HB a 'Purified Heartless', that doesn't change the fact that he legitimately is just a fricking Heartless. He can still run around, he can still wield the Keyblade because it is connected to his Heart, but he is ultimately that same little Shadow you play as when running to find Kairi afterwards scaled up.
The end of KH1 and the entirety of CoM has you controlling Sora's disembodied Heart, which may or may not make it easier for Namine to frick with his memories, but the less said about her the better.

Water becomes Ice when cold enough and Hearts in KH coalesce bodies when the proper conditions are met. Its just that Sora's restoration was the only time the conditions were met.
The KH Universe is a deterministic system governed by Kingdom Hearts itself. How much power KH actually has to change the rules of said system is unknown.

What I take from that report and the various circumstances of how the split works is that the "body" is irrelevant matter- all that matters is the mind, the heart, and whatever the frick the third thing was, and the nobody's body is spawned in on the spot in whatever place it happens to end up after the heartless transformation, usually from the mind's blueprint

          >I get that the appearance changed due to Ventus shenanigans, but the body appearance aside should be Sora's, shouldn't it?
It was, and Sora reclaimed it in KH2. Sora literally does not have a true physical body after getting Heartless'd in KH1 until Roxas rejoins with him at the start of KH2.
          >And when Sora gets his human form back, how does he get his body back, yet Roxas also still has Sora's body?
He doesn't. Kairi just uses Princess of light bullshit hax to reshape heartless sora into something that doesn't go feral. It's why the fight against Xemnas/Unknown in KH1FM specifically says "You are incomplete".

Kairi being a princess of heart and having her heart inside of Sora when he stabbed himself is when everything went breasts up. And then using her disney princess powers she brought shadow heartless Sora back into human form. When Sora stabbed himself it made Roxas and Namine from his and Kairi's heart.

      Anonymous

In kh3 what's his face invents a way to make bodies for people who don't have one like namine and Roxas. Before that I don't think that Roxas and namine are ever actually walking around at the same time as kairi and sora.

At the end of Hollow Bastion 1 in KH1 Kairi uses her Disney princess pure light powers to purify Sora's heart which restores him to a humanoid form.
Namine is an explicit anomaly caused by the frickery surrounding Kairi's status as a pure heart and her ties to Sora.

Basically Kairi has "Disney Magic" (Think Tinkerbell Resurrection in Peter Pan tier power) which buckled reality around her and Sora's existences in those moments.

On another note her will is the reason Sora was able to hold on in The Final World in KH3
Kairi is actuality stupidly powerful but that type of power so so far out of the wheelhouse of anyone besides the Fairy Godmother that so far it has never been properly refined into anything reliable.

      Anonymous

Kairi is pure, she can't become a heartless. She can have a nobody though.

Sora was healed by Kairi, but he's still a heartless, that's why he has that dark form in 2. He only become whole by the end of KH2, when he absorbs Roxas.

Roxas had already developed a heart, though, so it'll lead to more plot in the future. The same for Naminé.

By the way, they are both blonde because of Ventus. Sora completed Ventus' heart with his for some reason.

So Ventus and Sora are connected, so Roxas is partially Ventus/Sora nobody while Naminé is also partially Ventus/Sora nobody, but created out of Kairi's heart.

      Convoluted, yeah.

The question is: Where's the rest of Ventus heart? This is not answered yet.

          Xion's easy
She was a empty shell that was defined by Sora's memories of Kairi encrypted via transferring through Roxas, which then became the core of her being. All her growth and sense of self was tied to that as the core. When she died all the memories that comprised her went into Roxas and then Sora
The Xion we see in 3 is actually just another shell with the same capabilities as the OG, that was filled by the original Xion's memories after Roxas helped Sora release them. Those then formed the core of her being basically making her the same.

          >Where's the rest of Ventus heart? This is not answered yet.
I just remember, I THINK that the rest of his heart is actually Vanitas (which looks like Sora, because, well, they are connected).

          [...]
True. The levels of convolution are extreme lol.

          Vanitas is weird
Basically he is one of the important fragments of darkness that possessed Ventus back in the Union X era. Eventually it revealed itself and Ventus absorbed it to bind it within himself thus giving it a tangible and therefore killable shape. In this process since all darkness is Darkness it fused completely with Vens personal darkness by copying it. then when all Vens darkness got ripped out since it was still Ven's Darkness it came out as Vanitas.
In Kh3 that's still the same Vanitas as BBS just plucked from the past before his death and sent back with his memories of the future erased upon defeat.

1, CoM, and 2 were good. After that it varies. BBS is okay. The story and characters are what hook people to play the rest. It is like a giant soap opera with bittersweet (sometimes tragic) endings. You want to see them get happy endings for all the trouble they go through. The happy endings and helping people in Disney worlds makes the main character's losses even more impactful, like you just want them to get a good ending for all their perservence.

If you hate how the writing is being handled with FF7R, you're going to have a really bad fricking time with this.

If you ignore the dogshit writing, then the games and overall vibe within them are overall pleasant. 1 and 2 and worth a play, but don't bother with 3 unless you are doing it for meme purposes, because that's all the writing is.

The biggest shit of this series is the fragmentization of its story. You have to play the main games, side games, browser games, and gachas and read novels and mangas to know the entire story. Some games were also EoS, so good luck if you are into the story.

Kingdom Hearts is great and didn't need a sequel. Since this is the PS2 era, of course it got a sequel. However, almost every single aspect of the game was at least slightly worse than the original entry. We all know the writing took a nosedive across the board but the worst offender was simply the mash X to win (not even counting mash Triangle to win).

All the troon'd out fans of this game, wearing their worn out Hot Topic apparell, will no doubt disagree.

BTW one optional boss fight doesn't make up for spamming attack and doing CUHRAZY spins in midair. Those fights aren't even that hard anyway.

Because Sora is meant to represent the Disney aspect of the franchise just as much as the Final Fantasy part. But since the cast of OCs has increased which are closer to FF, Sora has had to pick up the slack on the "Disney Magic" side of things.
            Riku is the responsible one
Yen Sid is the Wise Mentor
            Roxas is Child Soldier Sora
Axel is now 4th wall man
Kairi is Girl who wants to prove she can fight.
Terra and Aqua are serious older teens who want to be adults.
And even Micky Mouse is a serious Warrior King.
The only other character in the main cast that's not SDG who can have lightharted fun is Ventus who hwas MiA till the ending of KH3
That means SDG need to be the fun Disneyfied ones otherwise the FF side will dominate the main plot and out of those three Donald and Goofy take more parental roles meaning that Sora is The Disney Aspect when it comes to the main plot.

He seems pretty inline with most modern Disney protags these days.
Or if you want to get deep into character theory territory its because he has been actively infantaslizing his feelings since the first game as a mask against all the bullshit he has had to deal with. While in KH2 that was the closest we have gotten to Sora without the mask as the stakes were lower until Kairi was kidnapped

                [...]

Something Something, data versions are connected to the real versions and so the time they spent together as computer programs subconsciously resonated Something Something.
Really its just that Nomura's original concept of Roxas was closer to a Nega-Sora picked up by the Organization from a life in Twilight Town than the missing half he became by KH2. Even then its clear that Roxas was meant to be a fully fledged member of the Organization during his time with them commanding lesser nobodies and all that.
But when it came time to make a game about him Nomura didn't want to write that and so made Roxas spend his year of life as a clueless pawn.
Days is still a good story just one that came at the cost of implied potential.Ironically the concept of a Xion type figure being the thing that severed Roxas from Org 13 is the only thing that stuck around.

                [...]

That goes against the entire point of Sora's arc is CoM. That being, despite it all at his core he is a kindhearted hero.

They'll never do it, but it would be fun to have a game where Sora's peter pan syndrome is actually addressed. He's closing in on adulthood and he acts younger than he did in the first game. There's a good version of Sora who maintains that childlike wonder and playfulness while still maturing into an adult and growing emotionally from all the shit he's seen. At this point in the series, he should nearly be a mentor character in the Disney stories they come across. After all he's seen, he should be a guru of emotional intelligence.

It starts out strong but falls off when they give Nomura's autism an inch. The first game is a lovely self-contained story with excellent narrative structure, some gameplay lows but not enough to detract from the game as a whole too much. The same can be said of the 2nd (mainline) entry, but that's where Nomura's autism (derogatory) really starts kicking off since it established in their heads that it's okay to have important story beats for the plot as a whole to be split into sub-games that are released on random systems. It comes to a head at the third game where you've been expected to have played and kept up with not one, not two, but 8 games scattered across multiple systems just to know what the hell's happening.

You ever play Mega Man Legends? You know how in 2, you're expected to just know who all of the characters are that they phoned in from The Misadventures of Tron Bonne as though they were just common knowledge? Imagine that but for like, 4 games.
