Is this shit an actual good RPG or is it just people who don't play RPGs saying it's good because it's Mario?
And is it really that short?
Is this shit an actual good RPG or is it just people who don't play RPGs saying it's good because it's Mario?
And is it really that short?
It's genuinely good, but very basic.
It's basically a moviegame but for kids. You walk around to look at the cool stuff with no real fail state and tap A once in a while to keep it moving. Like most moviegames yes it is very short
pretty funny to see a snes game called a moviegame
ehhh you can argue most jrpg games are moviegames. just press a/x will get you though 90% of fights add in healing and you can do the last 10%
>ehhh you can argue most platformer games are moviegames. just press hold right will get you though 90% of fights add in a presses and you can do the last 10%
are you mad? because no tight jump in platformers do take more focus than jrpg slop. do you disagree? this is the genre that gives you 8000 spells but random mobs die in 1-2 hits so there pointless and bosses are usually immune to everything so theres no point
>Make fun of terrible argument.
>"Are you mad?"
No, but apparently you are.
Difficulty is based on game design, not genre.
jrpgs are the original movie games. 16 bit is when they started focusing more on cutscenes. compare ff1 to ff4, it's night and day.
The original SNES game wasn't since you actually kind of had to worry about counters and inputs for some fights like the cake or Yaridovich. This version is a LOT easier and I'm not playing on easy mode.
There were games on the NES based on movies.
the snes was notorious for slowdown and chugged every action game. its the original style over substance home console.
I would say the remake turned more movie like than the original one. They're kid of soundless for the most part tho so they feel kind of underwhelming but the renders look very neat.
Phew I almost missed my reddit moment of the day…
Considering all the cutscenes added into the game it pretty much is now.
I played the remake for 30 minutes so I am qualified to say this:
The original is a fun RPG with a balanced difficulty leaning towards easy, with soul oozing out of every orifice. It's just an enjoyable experience from beginning to end.
The remake feels like a half downgrade, half upgrade. They added an Easy mode, while also making the Normal mode easier than the original. The UI is the same minimalistic slop that Nintendo uses for every game now, it really feels like it's lacking something.
The graphics look fine, the cutscenes are pretty cool.
The remake's music feels really off in comparison to the original music. Yoko must be getting senile in her old age, because she just ain't got it no more. If you play the remake, do yourself a favor and swap to the original music ASAP, it's Yoko in her PRIME when she was still good.
you are mentally ill if you don't like the remake soundtrack
I mean, we post on Ganker.
We all are mentally ill.
The original soundtrack sounds way better
The remake soundtrack adds in extra layers of music that weren't even in the original and it sounds all fucky
Valentina's harpsichord OHOHOHO song has some ill-fitting violins playing in the remake which ruin it.
It’s too soft and floaty sounding compared to the OG soundtrack.
It's a butchering just like the DeS Remake. At least Nintendo lets you use the old OST though.
>while also making the Normal mode easier than the original
wtf?????? it was already super easy why did they make it even easier
Statisically all enemies and allies have the same stats. However new additions make the game even easier.
Chain gauge bonuses grant free stats
Super moves that do way too much damage
Your normal attacks can deal splash damage if you get time it correctly. Not all attacks do it however.
Item inventory has less clutter but you can only carry so much of each item. This ends up better for the player.
Coins are far easier to obtain and don't have a 999 cap.
There's post game bosses but they're on par with Culex who wasn't really that tough and even easier here because you can perfect block Dark Star which is his only high damaging attack in the original.
>Coins are far easier to obtain and don't have a 999 cap.
What's the cap? It always annoyed me when I reached 999 in the original.
They really should have added a hard mode to compensate, seems like a major oversight
Would have been nice for returning players who already beat the original as well, even if they didn't fuck up Normal mode's difficulty
"Hard mode" would have just been a 50% hp/damage buff to enemies if they did it. No chance of something like better enemy AI and new moves.
Honestly I would take that, enemies die too fast now and deal baby damage already
Hard mode being a HP/Damage buff is fine if the enemies explode if you even slightly touch them.
Been a while since I played, but don't the bombombs in the mole tunnel do exactly that?
I would say for a Hard Mode, a damage buff isn’t really necessary. Unblockable spells already hurt like a bitch. An HP buff would be appreciated though and make the input for perfect blocks and attacks tighter. I like being able to block more attacks, it makes the game more fun, but it is also easier. Apparently, perfects are 7 frames in the remake, so making it something like 4 would really encourage you to get your timing right.
An exp reduction would also help.
One of the main reasons JRPGs are so easy is that they have to be balanced around ADHD spastics that blitz through every objective and refuse to explore at all being able to finish it.
You either ignore all the side content yourself and get an appropriate challenge, or wind up grossly over leveled on top of having better gear from side stuff that makes progressing a cake walk.
I really hate games that force you to interact with all the "side" content to beat the numbers game. At that point, it's just poorly designed main content.
0 xp given on enemies 2 levels below you
low xp on enemies on level with you or 1 level below you
far higher xp on enemies 2 levels higher than you
you shoot up the appropriate level quickly and then your there for the boss which the devs can now account what level you will be at
At that point just do what Legend of Dragoon did where everything except bosses gives korean grind hell amounts of exp, and then bosses give you 1-2 levels guaranteed.
Variable EXP and level sliders have been a thing for decades, yet games still refuse to implement them.
Let me turn leveling off or level down if I'm bulldozing the game, damn it!
No, you will take your 1/18 chance after beating Exor to stay level 3, and you will reset for hours and you will say THANK YOU.
>No, you will take your 1/18 chance after beating Exor to stay level 3,
what do you mean
Dragon Quest manages to balance itself pretty well generally so idk why other devs have such issues with it.
Xenoblade remake letting you manually delevel yourself was a nice addition
dq11 tough monsters+no xp on weak monsters was the most engaging jrpg i ever played. people say its just grinding and yes you can grind but i did quite a few bosses underleveld by actually interacting with buffs/debuffs+combos.
the onyl time i truley sat down and grinded was the squid and that was only because he literally was 1 tapping half of my party at that point and just needed some hp. i still killed him like 3 levels below the recommended.
The early bosses in DQ11 SM are kinda just RNG bullshit.
yeah it takes a bit to get tools to really do anything. i don't think i could have gotten by the 2 bird bosses if just didn't by chance rush for zap
You can weaken the squid by talking to the old lady with the cannons in Lonalulu
i didn't find the cannon lady until i was grabbing chests far after that point. i killed the squid with kabuff+serena ice defense buff while jade was fed mp from rabb/items to do her mulitthrust attack over and over
my hero was just a support bot at that point.
Envenom and Sleep fuck the squid up pretty bad too
Its a sorta consistent thing across most of the series that beast/nature family monsters are weak to sleep, even bosses
my fave part about dq is status effects actually working on bosses. ff games usually a boss is immune to everything or weak to a single status effect and its literally random like theres 20 if i don't look it up im not going to know. its also not really hard enough to justify doing anything else but smack/heal it to death
Dragon Quest has some of the best math of any RPG, anywhere, period. It's really not fair to hold other games to that standard.
The numbers are so fine tuned that 1HP difference actually matters for ~8 hours per game.
I think despite all the flak SMTV gets it did that much right, at least on Hard where I did sidequests and explored and ended up a decent level for the boss.
smtv's problem was that the dlc makes it a different game because you can get the mitama boosts and higher quality demons. atlus has a very real problem lately with making their dlc extremely p2w. if you don't get the dlc it's pretty good though ya.
The best demon is free.
She also kinda needs you to feed her every single HP increase item to keep up at high levels but yeah Idunn is great
>ADHD spastics that blitz through every objective and refuse to explore at all being able to finish it.
Make the side content better that I'll want to do it and put the side content on hold.
Coins not capping at 999 is a big improvement, you'd be running up against that cap by the Kero Sewers if you knew what you were doing.
>you'd be running up against that cap by the Kero Sewers
what, how? By selling frog coins?
You could farm Pure Waters in the sewers to sell for 75 coins a pop.
Interesting, thanks. I've never really felt the need to sell anything though.
It could be a downgrade. When I first played the game I had to work on Marrymore, I didn't know how I triggered that, being a kid. The secret is to stay at the inn without any money to pay for it. Most people will never trigger that without a cap.
That first sentence is the like the biggest oxymoron I’ve ever heard
Remake looks like a really good Phone game
Yoko is still great, different strokes for different folks
Have you heard the new Culex theme yet? Maybe somebody will post it
https://files.catbox.moe/gaz1mj.mp3
Here it is
Thanks anon, got the whole ost too? Some other anon was sharing it but his upload was nuked.
I don't, but here's another because why not (Booster Tower) https://files.catbox.moe/yytl6e.mp3
I only use Mitama DLC in the games to do stupid min-max shit because it's fun. But yeah, you can make the game piss easy with them. I prefer not to. SMTV gives enough grimoires, gospels and those statues. Leveling up demons shouldn't be that much of an issue.
Perhaps a bit too bombastic, but much better than the version of this Uematsu did for the FF4 pixel remaster
it's a lazy 1:1 remake. There arent new content, a copy-paste of a old snes game.
>NOOO IT'S THE SAME GAME
>NOOO THEY CHANTGED TOO MUCH
He posts both.
its actually just easier in the beginning, while being potentially harder (if you suck at timed hits) in the late game. and also, obviously harder in regards to the bonus content of boss rematches.
>Yoko must be getting senile in her old age
Her best work was for capcom's 90s arcade games.
>Yoko must be getting senile in her old age, because she just ain't got it no more
stop doing hard drugs, anon, the remake's soundtrack is amazing. She even added a nice violin layer to Sad Song. Forest Maze's remake version totally replaces the original.
The soundtrack now sounds how it should have always sounded. The rest of what you said is ok by me
I'll give you that there are still some good tracks to be found
But still, how do you fuck up the main battle theme that hard?
>while also making the Normal mode easier than the original.
I knew the enemies were going down faster than I remembered. Glad to hear I'm not losing my memory.
>Yoko must be getting senile in her old age
Yoko butchers EVERY SINGLE SONG EVERY SINGLE TIME SHE REMAKES A SOUNDTRACK. I've been telling you fuckers this since Kingdom Hearts.
And you've been wrong every time. That's why nobody listens to you.
First two criticisms are very fair. After listening to the OST directly, there's only a few that really feel off. The Superstar Saga remake got a way worse hand, and that was years back.
The remake's OST is way better across the board. I never played the original so my ears are untainted by nostalgia, and there's maybe one or two songs that sound better in the original but also dozens that sound like absolute dogshit comparatively.
>The UI is the same minimalistic slop that Nintendo uses for every game now, it really feels like it's lacking something
Oh, anon EVERY AA to AAA game has a bland as UI, it's one of the things that got lost in mother time aside form some indie games, Look what they did to Guilty Gear Strive compare on previous entries.
holy shit i didn't know you could go to classic music or original face button menu style
No it's not a good rpg at all it's mid at best
Its baby's first rpg, but its charming and fun. It is short for an rpg, around 8-15 hours.
It's a typical 90s Squaresoft RPG with Mario characters, if you don't like Final Fantasy you won't like Mario RPG.
What is the Belome of other Squaresoft games?
Listen to them back-to-back, the original version sounds so much better IMO. It's punchier and has an almost techno vibe to it
The new one is just... what the fuck were they thinking?
crazy how you cherrypicked the one example of a mediocre remake and ignored her other work. you are a dishonest critic.
Yeah he “cherrypicked” the song you’ll probably hear the most in the game
nigga it's the song you hear every few minutes you play the game
i mean its the song you're going to be listening to for the majority of the game. they should have gotten it right
>The MAIN FUCKING BATTLE THEME
>Cherrypicked
I like both.
Its weird because I dont like any of the new battle music but I think the level bgms like booster tower is great.
Yeah wow, this one sounds weirdly bad. Most of the other songs have been bangers but this one sounds like clown music
Isn't the new track more dynamic as in it'll start playing more instruments the better you do at the game?
How good at the game do I have to be for it to stop sounding like ass?
The problem for me is the pitch is too high, adding other instruments doesn't fix it
Another example is the Boss music
:48 sounds like its an orchestra performing their big close for a performance, but it doesn't sound good for a minute long loop.
Now compare to the original
I think they fucked up by trying to make the video game music less "video gamey"
It's the exact same thing that the Demon Souls remake did, trying to make things sound overly orchestral because apparently orchestral = epic.
I don't even think it's because they made it orchestral, because the first Smithy fight should have been an easy slam dunk remake, but it sucks. The only remade battle theme I ended up liking a lot was Culex. Everything else was either a mixed bag or bad.
>I think they fucked up by trying to make the video game music less "video gamey"
It's called having instruments instead of midis retard~kun
Bad thing instruments sound like shit
They should have picked more video gamey instruments
Oh god you're right, hearing the end of that loop over and over in one fight would drive me mad
I can't unhear the HftF version whenever I hear this
do you do you do you do you
DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
It's whatever the fuck they did to the trumpet sound. Still, good on them for keeping the option to use the SNES track.
The new version is just ear rape.
I actually don't mind the new version. Higher pitch than it should be though, that's really the only jarring thing. Kind of sounds like a M&L track.
It sounds like the same song, just not stuck inside someone's fax machine.
To be honest I hate this song no matter what form it takes. Any fight against any type of boss is a fucking relief to me because it means I don't have to hear this goddamn song for the millionth time. Music you're going to hear for the ENTIRE duration of a game is supposed to be made in such a way that you don't really get sick of it, or at least are able to tune it out, but this song is just so goddamn irritating. I literally never want to hear it again for the rest of my life. It's like Mass Destruction from Persona 3. Too repetitive, too dull, makes me feel like I'm losing my goddamn mind. Fuck this song.
i clicked this expecting generic band slop like in paper mario, it's not great, but it's not that bad
Im feeling that same disgust I felt when I heard the ff6 pixel remaster battle theme. The battle theme was never a banger, but at least it wasn't obnoxious. The trumpets little swings become unbearable.
You guys are simping for MIDIs, how contrarian can you even be
The fact that the original MIDIs unironically sound better than your freshly arranged music for the Remaster is the real issue
It's not about being contrarian, it's about how the music feels and some of these new tracks do not have the same vibes as the original tracks.
They included the original OST precisely for people like you.
And thank god they did, I swapped to the original after I heard the battle music.
Fucking WHAT? The original FF66 battle theme is one of the best in the series, and the PR version is near perfect. This is, frankly, all the proof I need that music haters in this thread are pure shitposters.
My main grape with the Remake's OST from what I've heard of the Battle remixes is that they're not as punchy nor are they as clear sounding
Maybe it's just the Switch or something but it just doesn't sound clear
>Maybe it's just the Switch or something but it just doesn't sound clear
Nah it's Yoko going senile
They sound exactly the same, except the new one isn't compressed to hell and back.
both of these themes are pretty trash to be fair...
smrpg doesn't have an amazing soundtrack in any version, it just has 3-4 standout classics
Sounds pretty good. I like that the music has variation to the loops now, and there's a little trill in one part that reminds me of Happy Adventure Delightful Adventure.
It's a 10 hour RPG that's very easy and basic, however pretty fun thanks to great pacing, attention to detail and polish.
The remake doesn't really add much aside a fresh coat of paint. The original is very much playable by today's low low standards. It's a $60 cash grab by Nintendo.
10 hours if you already played the original maybe. Probably good for 20-30 hours for first time players who don't know where all the secrets are and are actually talking to everyone.
The SNES version is full of soul and details, the story basically created the Mario World for the first time, (besides the cartoon and the movie), so it was an awesome game. If you play the other RPG games you'll notice that the world building is all based on this one.
It's an easy game, but really great to play when you a kid.
The Switch version is basically the same game, but the graphics are all ugly to me, specially Mario, that is off-model.
You only reach the level 30 for each character. That say everything.
I'm a fanof the original game but it's the exactly same game though.
Huh I was kinda wondering if they maybe raised the level cap in the remake
Since normal mode is pissbaby easy in the remake, does anyone have an idea for potential challenge runs to make it harder?
No equipment
Bowser only
Only way to damage enemies is with his magic
People do no-level run, it also doubles for speedrun, since you basically need to avoid all enemies.
Ah, low level run would probably do the trick then. I didn't even think about the fact you can avoid the majority of normal fights lol
Is it like KH where there's an option for no XP or just avoid all optional encounters?
I don't know about Switch, because I didn't play it, on SNES people just avoid enemies, maybe there's a mod for it.
It's probably like the M&L games where you just avoid every non-mandatory fight
Dream Team even acknowledged it if you beat the game at super low level
>people who don't play RPGs saying it's good because it's Mario?
>And is it really that short?
yes
OLD GOOD NEW BAD
and companies remaking the same old games confirm this. cope and seethe
OLD GOOD NEW BAD
It's good but it's also overrated because it's Mario
>And is it really that short?
It's like ~25ish hours and that's the length most SNES JRPGs were. The JRPG bloat didn't start until the PS1 era and didn't become standard until PS2.
The fun comes less from the battle and more from being able to explore Mario's world outside the Mushroom Kingdom. That being said I do like the combat, but it was easy before and easier now. A few of the rematches really put up a fight though, beyond anything the original had.
>me trying to emulate this
Holy fuck the Switch emulator is more cancer than the PS3 one
Just mod a Switch and you'll never have to complain about shitty Switch emulation again
>Emulator bad because it's struggling with a game that hasn't even released yet.
You think RPCS3 was running Yakuza 5 on launch? Retard.
yeah totk went from unplayable to a better experince within 2 weeks of its launch
Funny, I was in a thread the other day where some fag was swearing up and down that emulation was better than perfect 100% of the time, and that Ryujinx literally never had emulation errors.
Buy an used switch and pirate the shit out of it
Works on my machine.
>Is this shit an actual good RPG
It was good when it came out and I was a 10 year old kid, I love it for nostalgia but accept that it's baby tier and a gateway drug to (J)RPGs in general.
>And is it really that short?
If you know what you're doing you can beat it in ~10 hours, if you 100% it you can do 15-20 hours. It's very short but it's fun the whole way.
this thread has been made like 7 times over the course of 24 hours wtf lmao
you have to market the game when its fresh
here's the full list of people who will enjoy this game:
>people who will have played this for their first time when they were under the age of 15
You're more or less on the mark
This isn't a remake for the fans of the original
This is a remake to make the game more accessible to children and zoomers
The lack of difficulty is very telling
It was mid back then and it's real bad right now.
It's the other way around, it's for zoomers who missed the original because this is a 1:1 recreation and utterly pointless if you've already played it.
>People being contrary for no reason.
The worst thing you could say about it is that the new meter makes an easy game slightly easier.
And also said meter is designed to favorize the worse characters in the original over the others.
Basically. That plus switching make the game a little easier, but give you reasons to use Bowser and Mallow.
Is there a reward for finding all the hidden treasure boxes? The mimic enemy in Monstro tells you how many are remaining. I fucked up and killed the clone in the ghost ship so I can't ever get the one that you're supposed to use the clone to reach.
good for jap shit
bad when compared to real rpgs from the west
Playing the remake made me realize just how much better the Paper Mario games are
You'll be eating those words when playing the TTYD remake you realize how much backtracking there is.
At least SMRPG is constantly moving forward, like, to an almost unprecedented degree outside of maybe Origami King.
Anon I played TTYD again like 2 or 3 years ago. I know what the game contains and it's fine. People have blown the backtracking out of proportion for literal decades now.
Paper Mario is good but it was a downgrade from Mario RPG
I played replayed PM64 and SMRPG this month. SMRPG is clearly worse, and it's not even close.
hey guys don't worry, you both suck.
mother was always the only decent nintendo rpg series
Mother fans are insufferable. You were like the Undertale fanbase before Undertale existed
It's not nearly as bad as Mother, but not nearly as good as its best SNES contemporaries. It's mid, bordering on bad.
Undertale is much better than Mother. And I don't even like Undertale.
Earthbound is crap. I only got through the first few towns and quit when I realized the dungeons were just generic caves. Also, the perspective of the environments is horrible and changes every screen and makes me want to kill myself just looking at it.
I like that in both Superstar Saga and Paper Mario, you gain new abilities that have purposes both in combat and while exploring.
Playing this game again made me realize how much longer things seemed as a kid. I swear getting to Peach in the first game must have felt like 15-20 hours to a younger me
oh yeah 100% i remember telling people i spent 100s of hours playing halo reach just to check my service record as an adult
it was like fucking 71 hours and i can remember i had the game running for hours without me near it multiple times.
dude i spent 3k hours in dota 2 as an adult and it still feels like i played reach longer
The original is still good and it holds up. The remake is okay and adds some cool features, but being a remake it misses so many beats. It's just a giant pool of missed opportunities. Some personal gripes of mine:
>no hard mode
>boss rematches aren't that difficult
>grate guy casino doesn't have more content in it, so it's objectively a downgrade to the SNES version
The last one is particularly irksome. Just because you can't have gambling, doesn't mean you can't add in a bunch of cool new minigames. The old game had tons of fun games, like goomba stompin or Beetlemania. Certainly you could add more to it.
this remake made me realize how much better TTYD has aged
>Game existed for decades
>Hey guys is this game really good?
Are zoomers this retarded?
keeps crashing for me on ryujinx and no music audio on yuzu
Call Nintendo customer support fag
A good litmus test for a Mario game is what I call the Mickey Mouse test
It is simple:
Imagine the game but in stead of Mario it is Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse Wonder Flower is a good example of a game I would not buy because it looks like kiddy crap
Mickey Mouse RPG remake is a good example of a game I would not buy because it looks like kiddy crap
Mickey Mouse World is a good example of a game I would go back to play because it is just a good game in spite of the mascot
Mickey Mouse RPG SNES is a good example of a game I would maybe try some day but don't really care to even though it has its fans
>Mickey Mouse RPG remake is a good example of a game I would not buy because it looks like kiddy crap
>Mickey Mouse RPG SNES is a good example of a game I would maybe try some day but don't really care to even though it has its fans
Literally 1 to 1 the same games, you NPC.
He's baiting, moron.
>Literally 1 to 1 the same games, you NPC.
apparently not if they cut content like great guy's casino.
Well for Mickey Mouse games I do the Mario test
It is Simple:
Imagine the game but in stead of Mickey Mouse it Mario
Epic Mario - Is a good example of a game I would buy because it looks Epic
Castle of Illusion Starring Mario Mario - Is a good example of a game I would buy because it has mario in it
Mario's Speedway USA - Is a good example of a game I would buy because Mario racing
>Mario's Speedway USA
who exactly developed this game? I could never find exactly who did it. I have a feeling that they used the DKR engine, it's not the same team though.
How are you this bad at finding information lmao
Open up for the airplane widdle babby, here it coommmes vrrrrrrrooooooooom!
Mmmmmmmm, now wasn't that a tasty piece of information?
I meant, I knew it was Rare, but which team inside rare? There were a few.
Hungry widdle babby aren't you? Alright, Daddy is feeling nice today so you get an extra portion.
Open up! Here it comes! Vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooom!
https://www.mobygames.com/game/23113/mickeys-speedway-usa/credits/n64/?autoplatform=true
That makes sense. I do that with Zelda games, I imagine Link as a Mariachi and I ask myself if I would play this game if Link was a Mariachi. Most game of the series don't pass, including Breath of the Wild. Brand recognition is powerful.
How the fuck do you happily play Mario World but draw the line and Wonder
he wasn't born yet when mario world came out so it's okay
oh no, le kiddy crap
Game was made by square enix.
This is basically a final fantasy but with mario. Its quite enjoyable game and definitely someone with good imagination designed many wacky characters and i miss that wacky designs of 90s-00s
Is it playable on emus? Just found out it got dumped
Runs like shit in all of them.
Fuuuckkkk
>Ganker universally loves Mario RPG
>remake gets announced, is getting rather popular, people are excited
>Ganker: mario rpg was never good
The original is still great
The remake does a lot wrong and a little right
It ruins so many things like uh.
Uhm.
Uhhhhhhh.
The art direction
The soundtrack
Making an already easy game easier
Censoring all the sovlful references
B-but yeah it ruined nothing u right nu-nintenbro 🙂
Wrong in all of them.
In what way is the art direction an upgrade?
don't even bother, it's programmed to just say any new product shat out by nintendo is good and any old product bad on principle
It's the same art direction, just in a modern console.
>But muh diminutive, meaningless cherry-picked details.
The same art direction.
>It's the same art direction, just in a modern console.
How did you convince yourself of this?
Easily. It's the truth. Your trolling levels are too low to mess with me, tourist. Lurk moar.
It's not, the color grade is all different, for starters.
Not them, but it looks like the same shit but with actual lighting and without pixel artifacting. What's the issue?
>The art direction
Bait.
>sovlful
fucking have a nice day newfag
Just the regular breed trolls baiting tourists and spergs. You know, the usual Ganker.
Every single time.
>Ganker calls out every remake for being terrible for changing things up and removing things
>gets surprised when it happens to a game that changed things up and removed things
This isn't contrarianism, it's hating that old games get revamped for a modern audience. In the case of SMRPG, the remake actively ruins the difficulty of an already very easy game to make it more accessible. If you love the original, it's a let down and it's a classic almost everyone has played. To enjoy it, you need to have never played Super Mario RPG before and you need to be okay with playing a game so easy that it makes Final Fantasy Mystic Quest look like Ninja Gaiden.
No one thought the original was remotely difficult. This is not a game you play for challenge or insane tech. Could've been an A masher for all I care. People like it because of the world mainly, and HOW simple the battles are.
But they changed how the battles are, they implemented new systems like the super moves where your entire team attacks for massive damage, or buffs/heals depending on your team composition. The game is fundamentally changed, the entire flow of battle ends up being different. Same with the more lenient timings where it's piss easy to get a perfect block to take 0 damage. It's objectively worse than the original, which is true for nearly every remake that gets released these days.
nigga it's a game that's meant to be accessible for 6 year olds, who gives a shit. everyone only likes it because of nostalgia and being able to see the creative character designs in HD
>nigga it's a game that's meant to be accessible for 6 year olds
Yes, so there was no reason to make it accessible for 3 year olds instead. It was already easy, it needed no changes. But gambling is bad, so let's remove a part of the game! Just like how references to Olimar's wife gambling got censored in the Pikmin remakes. At least Nintendo is being consistent with their censorship now I guess.
You do know the casino is in, right? Fucking have a nice day, doom posting vermin
And you know the Blackjack game got stripped out of it right?
Same old dance and song. You should know how Ganker works by now.
pottery my man
I tried to warn you
This is different because Pokemon remakes had already set a standard. If BDSP was the first Pokemon remake ever, everyone would've eaten it up
That's not even true. BDSP gets shit for cherrypicking what content it wanted from Platinum and overall downgrading a ton of features. It would still be a bad remake of DP.
ORAS did the same and it wasn't shat on a quarter as much as BDSP
Because it added a lot of new shit as well. It was a mixed bag. BDSP is a straight downgrade.
Link's Awakening also came out. BDSP looks so fucking bland compared to it.
did they remove the post game? i haven't played gen 4 since i was like 12 or something but wasn't there an entire battle island and like 5 legendaries to catch
Most of the Gen 4 legendaries were events you had to download and not regular postgame. Dunno if the remake made them normally available.
The facilities were in Platinum. DP and BDSP only get the tower.
BDSP are shit because they're remakes of DP and not Platinum.
It's good. It's not advanced, it's not deep, it's very simple, basic JRPG, but it's good. If you like JRPGs, high chance you like this.
If you don't, medium-low chance you like this.
If you go in expecting a ton of difficulty expect to be disappointed. I died 3 times from 0-90% (the other 10% are shit like grinding frog coins for the bestiary and 100 super jumps, just isn't happening, did that shit once, never again), and 2 of those were from one hit unavoidable kills in the booster rematch, 1 of them was when I got opened up on by culex 3D to bring all of my characters to 1hp, then his crystals did their AOE moves sequentially so it just wiped my entire team without even getting a move. Set up with ele reduction accessories and mopped them up the very next go.
No one was expecting a hard game you stupid homosexual, they just weren't expecting a borderline moviegame tier ((experience)) when the original at least had some element of actually making the player engage with its systems
I literally never died a single time in the original, it's even easier. There's more one shots here, and enemy damage is up about 20% overall.
What exactly is the timing of superjump? I'm trying to learn but the best I've gotten is 20.
How do get this frog coin?
Forgot pic
Get the morph ball skill.
Teach Metroid to crawl
While running towards it, press down and Mario will crouch-slide, I have no idea how they expected people to find this out, and it doesn't happen anywhere else
Thanks
>I have no idea how they expected people to find this out
Crouch-sliding was present in every Mario platformer prior to this
I mean, the game has no crouch function and if you press down you will move in that direction instead.
I did this 30 years ago, so I remembered you could do the crouch slide, but isn't intuitive at all.
Press R and have luigi hammer you into the ground
Cukex 3d fight when
It's a solid RPG but it is geared for people that don't play RPGs. Yes it is short.
It's a child rpg. If you're 7-13 year old, it's great game for you.
>game release date: November 17th
>leaked on 8th
has nintendo made arrests yet
Finished the original for the first time recently. Gotta say; I don't get the appeal. Music was good and I appreciate that this game walked to later installments could run, but fuck me this game was a slog towards the end and I hate that theres a permanently missable frog coin before you're even introduced to the concept of them.
Do people simp for Geno purely because of the design? The man has no character and his dialogue is just "Hello character, I am Geno. I am here to repair star road". Mallow has more character and an arc and I don't like Mallow either.
The isometric platforming is awful and I only "mastered" a few of the timed hits. I don't mind the game being easy, it's a Mario RPG. But I'm probably never going back to this game.
you didn't play it when you were 8 and theres dozens of mario rpgs now. hell theres almost as many mario rpg series than 3d mario games.
back than a mario rpg was unique and cool in itself
It's probably the most weird Mario game and it has a ton of charm. Gameplay wise though yeah paper and MAL definitely have the home turf
>Do people simp for Geno purely because of the design?
That plus nostalgia, yes. Same deal as Golden Sun fans.
>Gotta say; I don't get the appeal
there is no appeal except for geno rosterhomosexualry
I felt the same the first time I emulated it. I heard so much hype about this game and it turned out to be just okay. It was fine enough but it wasn't the greatest RPG ever. Hell I wouldn't even say it's in my top 5 favortie JRPGS
I'm still gonna play the remake cause I did enjoy the first playthrough even if it was overhyped and I don't mind giving it a second chance and seeing if I feel different about it this go around
>I felt the same the first time I emulated it. I heard so much hype about this game and it turned out to be just okay.
this
>Do people simp for Geno purely because of the design?
Geno's design is REALLY cool. You probably didn't use him. I bet you're a mario bowser, peach knucklehead.
He looks out of place in a Mario game.
I mean, the game is generally easy enough to get away with a Mario/Geno/Bowser party and just healing with items, but it's still nice to have a party wide heal available to you.
Yep. A knucklehead.
>I MUST HEAL, I MUST HEAL. I MUST.
I'll never understand this mindset.
>mind-broken from someone else's playstyle in a single player game
He is only one example of many. And this game is only one example of many. In the majority of JRPG games, you don't need a dedicated healer party member. Having a dedicated healer is typically to make up for your lacking ability to think strategically. And I'm not trying to belittle you.(too much) When I was new to RPG games, I was also highly dependent on heals to get me through these games. But after some experience, I was able to play confidently without a healer.
What baffles me, is when people are STILL relying on healers 27 years later. Like, shouldn't you know better by now?
I play all my JRPGs without healers, healing items or healing abilities. Get on my level fag
I used Mario, Geno and Peach. Peach was heal bitch. Mallow was useless and I didn't need a hard hitter like Bowser because Mario is mandatory and did absurd amounts of damage already. Geno at least had boost moves and spread damage.
Beat Culex btw. Just wailed on him and paid no attention to his crystals. I won.
>Mallow was useless
>Geno at least had spread damage
lmao. The irony. Mallow has spread damage. And it cost him almost no flower points. While Geno's spread damage moves are considerably more costly. What I got from your assessment, is that you never learned the timing on Mallow's lightning attack. So you don't know how powerful it is.
I got the timing, Mallow just wasnt as good as Geno. Geno did spread and stat boosts. Mallow didn't and wasn't as good at healing as Peach: full group heal for 4fp. Not that it matters, I was never low on syrup so...
>Mallow just wasnt as good as Geno.
Mallow's lighting can kill many low tier enemies in a single strike, and mid to high tier enemies in 2 strikes. Meaning, most battles should never take more than two cycles if you're smart. The truth of the matter is, you should have had Mario, mallow, and Geno. Bowser isn't strong enough to justify a spot. With mallow doing spread damage for 1fp, you can use Geno and mario to clean up whatever remains on the field.
>and I only "mastered" a few of the timed hits
>struggling with timed hits
Are you handicapped?
Probably a zoomer
it's not particularly good and very basic. Most people like it's charming art style, music, and writing
Mario has logged in.
does anyone know how I can grind frog coins? Is there anything in particular to do? Trying to get the accessories. Is there a spot with higher rate of special enemies or something? I've collected just about every available world map and minigame coin, and I'm basically just getting into a battle, using lamb lure to get out if there's no specials but it takes FOREVER.
How good are you at jumping on caterpillars.
oh shit does wiggler hopping give frog coins? Is it continuous or do I need to do like 10 then off then 10 then off?
I'll happily learn or figure it out. As is it takes about 2-3 minutes for a single coin right now and that's not tenable.
I'm fucking getting there bros.
you're not even half way.
I hit 40 only after 20 minutes of trying. I'll get there.
Good on ya blud
wait, those rats aren`t robots?
It's a dog or wolf of sorts, i forgot the original name.
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1975743337
He's perfect, he looks so out of place again in a completely new way
It's charming and funny. That's the important part.
Personally, I find the new animations cringe. I can't stand the new level up screen. Because first of all, the dance animations are trying too hard to be cutsey. But secondly, why are all of the characters just standing there like statues, and then they suddenly start dancing. It happens so suddenly, that you can actually see Geno slide from idle into dance in a glitchy kind of way.
If the game had REAL soul, then they would have made the characters idle on the stage by glancing around to see who is about to level up. And they look excited like they're ABOUT to celebrate. Not just looking straight and still like statues.
And then when the character gets the notification that they leveled up, everyone has a transitional animation, where their dance begins. Just to help them snap into the dance position more smoothly. Also, they could vary things up, by making nearby characters give the leveled up character a pat on the back, or clapping, while farther characters do their little dance.
Or invert the celebration, so that the spotlighted character does their dance, while everyone else only claps and back-ats.
Or make character specific interactions. So depending on who is near who, you get different reactions. Like say if bowser is near the level up character, he picks them up and holds them on his shoulder. Geno would turn turn and bow. Peach would blow kisses. Mallow would do something else. idk. Think of something.
But anything else is better than those cringe dances.
You are reading way too much into babby's first JRPG.
>A bunch of artists put a bunch of time and effort into crafting a nice product.
>That's good.
>People put thought into the craftsmanship of the product.
>That's bad.
Just turn your brain off bro.
I will turn my brain off for babby's first JRPG yes.
>no secret endings except for the firework shapes
Where are the anti-mandate schizos who said they were retaining all soulful designs and mandateschizos should go kill themselves, etc?
>Super Mario RPG Dry Bones look like Super Mario RPG Dry Bones
What am I supposed to be angry at?
naw
Oh shit! Put a spoiler!
You scared the shit out of me with all that soul.
Better than all the other Mario RPGs. Good enough for me.
> that face when the ??? hits the right spot
is he an incel?
I don't think Booster even knows what sex is.
He makes models.
What do you think?
>mario dead
>peach silenced
I thoughr you said this game was easier? I've never had a character die at Booster on the SNES. I was watching my brother fight King Calamari and he was knocking out his party in a few shots too. He was also only lvl9 by Seaside Town, I remember being level 15 at least by then.
He clearly is terrible at the game
The fact that you are fighting Booster in the tower means you suck at videogames.
It might be the rematch, though another sign that he could be bad is that his FP is only 65
So youve never played the game more than once? Never been curious about what happens when the Snifits catch you behind the curtain?
It's the refight where he has 9999 damage unblockables. I opted to let mario die to use mallow to deal ele damage.
No
Did they rebalance Mallow's stats?
I'm at land's end and he can constantly deal around 100 phys. dmg on average and I've been only picking S.Atk. I'm level 12 btw.
i think EVERYONE got buffed stats
enemies have more hp
marios crew deal more damage
i swear these high numbers dont feel the same
The enemies are the same. They did add new special enemies with double the stats though. They give you frog coins after being beaten.
i one shotted one of the hammer bros with the jumping skill. There is no way enemies have more HP
Yeah, same thing happened to me.
Guess I should have avoided every fight up til that point so I wasn't so OP, silly me!
Seriously though, I feel like I'm going to have to do a low level run and avoid as many enemies as I can if I want a challenge out of this game.
I think I need to replay the original to compare enemy damage. Geno got one shot at 155 HP by a Meteor Swarm when I played the remake, he was at level 19. To be fair I kept the Work Pants on him the whole game though.
That's kinda cool actually since it makes retarded builds more interesting, I might try S.atk Bowser next time.
You're right. Only special enemies have buffed HP and stats.
Although, the ants in Land's End were definitely hitting harder than I remember.
when you subtract the nintendo bonus you're left with a decent RPG but with the nintendo bonus you get 10/10 holy shit gotyay
same shit as usual
so did anyone fix the models being dark n shit?
You must have downloaded Nigga Mario RPG
Mr 5 Lines of Dialouge Geno. This was the pimp smash niggas were gassing up? Granted he looks cool but the way some people were acting like they were entitled to his inclusion in smash, you'd think he was on the same level of importance as like Luigi. Even a Mii Costume was too much for what this guy is. An average Fire Emblem unit has more story significance. The fact that people actually genuinely thought he had any chance of getting in is concerning.
>the same level of importance as like Luigi
>green Mario
And yet I can play as Geno for almost the entire game while Luigi is relegated to a 5 second cameo after it's over
So what are these post game fights I'm hearing about? I really wasn't interested in this game since I beat the original a ton of times, but I might reconsider if they added some extra content.
so its the same fucking game?
wew
Anything at all "new" in the remake besides the things we already knew about like Boss Rematches and the AoE perfect attacks? I love SMRPG, but I do kind of hope that something else is new, please.
Boss refights with ramped up difficulty
Culex gains the power of the third dimension after 30 years in his refight
The Lazy Shell is still going to make things far too easy, since Peach is going to be a unkillable healbot with it..
I'm not so sure about that. The trailer did show Booster dealing 9999 damage. At the least, bosses will have enrage attacks.
>Culex gains the power of the third dimension
show me
So do you just get shiny stone from beating all newbosses?
It really fucks with my brain that some timed hits have different timing.
I keep failing the most basic shit like Geno's hand gun every single time.
god that super jump shit was wild
i fell into a fucking trance
my head hurts
anybody has the seaside town theme yet?
How hard is the 100 jumps? Never attempted it. I managed to do the 1000 rope jumps in FFIX, is it harder than that?
How good are you at hitting a 7 frame window 100 times in a row.
its 3 frames
The new version made it 7 I think but even doing that 100 times in a row is hard.
The reward really isn't worth it either. They should've given you the Shiny Stone for it. THAT would have made Culex a truly secret boss. No kid would've done it.
If you turn your brain off and stop trying to use a visual cue to hit it instead of rhythm, not hard at all, shouldn't take more than an hour. Most people make it harder on themselves.
well if
is anything to go by its still stupid tight
>the bowser scene in rose way has him name the minions he calls up as jagger, goomhilde, and the magikoopa who gets brainwashed later on
SOUL
The game has too much soul for this NPC generation.
Better movie game than Chrono Trigger
better gameplay than CT
Genuinely good RPG, but also designed to literally be a gateway to the genre. Very easy, very simple, but very breezy. A typical run is about 15-20 hours tops, which is pretty refreshing, especially with modern RPGs usually eclipsing 100 hours.
Even 15-20 hours is on the higher end of estimated playtime. Maybe if you're a kid playing thus for the first time you'll take that long but any adult replaying this won't take more than 7 or 8 hours.
it's one of the games that's only really good if you played it when you're a kid, just listen to any of the music, it belongs in the same tier as yoshi's crafted world or kirby's forgotten land, actual baby tier
Forgotten land is just a good game, nothing all that baby about it. It's not super hard but then neither are other 3D platformers
forgotten land is a game for literal children
Arenalet.
>just listen to any of the music,
If OP does that, then he would surely disagree with you. The music is mature and eclectic. One listen of Booster's tower will set anyone straight.
am I overleveling? just reached nimbus land and all my party members are level 20. Haven't had a single game over yet
The average in Nimbus without skipping anything or overleveling should be 14-16
You can beat smithy and culex with that level
lmao, no wonder all the bosses are falling in 5 turns. I thought it was just a baby game
the game is piss easy. You can only die to culex as an adult.
yes, have you been fighting every single enemy group you see on every map? The game is sort of balanced around the assumption that you're going to skip most enemies with platforming.
Well, it's easy even at level 15 in that zone but at level 20 you're going to breeze through the rest of the game asleep
i've been battling like 60% of them
I think it's fun, it's obviously very simple compared to most other RPGs out there, but that's the point, I think it's pretty fun for what it is, and a pretty unique experience, especially because of the isometric platforming overworld and the timed action commands.
HOLY KEK
hopefully he kills himself
Genofag here, Terry was great, as was Sephiroth. They really should add the guy to the next game now that the remake's a thing at least, but they should also find a way to sneak Mallow in there, whether he be an AT or part of Geno's moveset.
I'm not a Genofag, though I was disappointed his Mii Fighter costume was a fucking hat again after they did fully modeled heads for other character costumes.
That too. I get it, they ported every Mii costume over, but if anything that's worse because they're basically the same damn costumes as last time. Of course that's not even mentioning how Geno's Mii was given a splash back in 4. He and Mallow got Spirits, Geno specifically got a Mii, but they didn't even bother to touch it up when they easily could've. Logically it would also make more sense as Geno is a doll; he has no costume.
>they ported every Mii costume over
Mage outfit didn't make it to Ultimate, which disappointed me. it was my go to for my self insert in Sm4sh.
Fundamental issue with Geno is at the end of the day Nintendo's got to pay Square Enix licensing for him, and at that point why not go for an actual Square Enix property. Which is what happened the last three times.
Unless RPG Remake sells insanely well I can't see Nintendo asking for Geno as a fighter when there's other options first and see Square Enix even less likely to agree.
I don’t think this remake would have happened had there not been so much attention for Geno in Smash Bros. They’re certainly adding him next Smash. I get your point and it’s likely how Ultimates Square characters happened but Geno is known for being a character people want to see in Smash and there aren’t too many never ever characters left. Those generate a specific kind of fan reaction that gets Smash Bros a lot of attention and I’m sure they’ll use Geno to do that next time now that he has a modern game to his name.
Is anyone else getting a game crash at the Peach jumping from the castle cutscene? Im playing on a physical switch. Is there a way to turn off cutscenes or skip them?
You shouldn't be crashing on a real switch, I have 6 hours in ryujinx and haven't had a single crash
same but on emulator. you can skip with +
dunno if it helps though, didn't try and I'm sad I can't keep playing
For some reason holding or pressing + doesn't skip the cutscene. Im on fw 16.1 so maybe I just need to update. Had no issues up to this point
I tried it now, and it didn't work, could not skip and hard crashed again. I'm on ryujinx and had no issues before this, everything updated
Just beat Culex with an immortal Peach spamming Star Egg, pretty kino game so far bros. Being able to swap teammates even when they are downed makes it a cakewalk.
Hacked switch here, 0 crashes so far in 8 hours, try updating your stuff (firmware, cfw etc.)
>Blackjack is gone
Well fuck, I'm gonna miss it.
make your own mario rpg with blackjack and hookers.
Is this a more faithful translation, or did gambling suddenly become a issue that raises the age rating these days?
blame eurofags and their retarded laws
>or did gambling suddenly become a issue that raises the age rating these days?
>suddenly
As far as I'm aware, things like roulette and poker have been in games that were rated for all ages.
>suddenly
That laws been active for like 15 years now. Kids games can't have gambling in them. That's why Pokemon doesn't have the slot machine stuff anymore.
Thank Europe for that. Like other anons have said, that law has been in the books for about 14 years and was the main reason that the western version of Heart Gold Soul Silver lost its game corner games, and several other kid games lost basic slots or blackjack.
Europe is cool sometimes. They SHOULD keep gambling away from kids. It's indoctrination to degenerate behavior.
fuck off third worlder
I'm American, born and raised, brother.
The government enforces the will of the people. Most people realize that gambling is degenerate behavior. Most people don't want kids to be indoctrinated into gambling. Therefore, their government representatives make it so that enabling kids to gambling is a punishable offense. That's how things should work, and they're working as intended.
Government shouldn't force shit
I grew up playing that blackjack mini-game yet I don't see myself blowing thousands for the same dopamine hit at a real casino.
Should be a parents job to parent, not to censor because you're a shit parent.
Well indoctrination doesn't work on everyone. You're just the type of kid that wasn't especially interested in gambling. But it works on other kids, and that's how companies end up making billions off gacha, lootboxes, and skins.
>Should be a parents job to parent, not to censor because you're a shit parent.
In your house, if you don't want your kid doesn't something, you tell them to stop. If they don't listen, you take the ability away from them, or you punish them in some way. But you have to be firm on the matter, because the kid doesn't know better yet.
However, when your kid goes to your friend's house, you can't stop them from partaking in these activities. But what you can do, is talk to the parents of the other kid, and make them aware of the issue. Then, those parents can also enforce the same rules. And then those parents tell the other parents, and those parents tell yet other parents. And before you know it, the whole neighborhood is aware of this matter. With all parents in agreement, none of the kids can do that activity anymore. It's been widely restricted.
That, sir, is how the government works on a larger scale. Everyone got together, and decided gambling is bad for kids. So the government restricts gambling for kids. If you don't like that, then in your home, your kid can play all the blackjack he wants.
everything gambling related gets censored, refer to the last one in this image.
Mario RPG was literally designed to be babus first RPG
This is an unambigous fact, SE was having trouble with the west and after their last attempt, Mystic Quest, failed hard, they decided to try again, but this time with Mario, since even then Mario was THE normalfag character.
That said, for what it is. It's not a bad game, just about what you would expect from a Mario RPG, being super easy and made easy to digest for an audience who have never played another JRPG before
In one hand it's neat that there's no actual item limit since each one has it's own amount and if you get more those are send to a storage box. In other hand every item has it's own limit for balance purposes, so you can't go around carrying 20 red essences anymore.
looks like you can still one shot exor with geno whirl, i was wondering if they would have changed it.
>forest maze treasure room now has 3 redundant mushrooms and 1 flower instead of 3 flowers and 1 mushroom
WHAT WHY
Anyone tried to beat Culex the first time you arrive to Monstro Town? I feel like it's not impossible with all the stuff the remake gives you.
I'll give it a try. It wasn't that difficult in the original either as long as you get rid of the earth and wind crystals first.
I still find it pretty rough to stay alive to eat all those AoEs anyway. Maybe it's possible if you try to get the highest magic defense possible.
I think it's doable with Mallow and Peach, more so now that if you have a 5+ chain you get extra buffs depending on the active members.
fuck the boshi race, how the fuck do you do the timing?
Why is Booster such a good character
He's like this weird autistic, overgrown manchild who inherited this glorious tower and loves building models and working on trains, it's such a great premise, and Booster Tower is probably my favourite location in the game.
he just like me frfr
I always thought Booster went unhinged after this experience and became Wario, but otherwise, yes, he's a pretty great character. I think he stands out because the only other major characters are pretty vanilla.
>Frogfucius
>Mole People
>Cloud People
Outside of the villain units, the only other character that stands out is Johnny and the Sunken Ship.
He's just there because they forgot to use Wario back then
He's more like if you took Wario and Cid and divided by three.
I always assumed he’s some distant relative. Thy make a point of having those family portraits of other Booster-like relatives everywhere after all.
Did Yuzu fix the music issue yet?
yuzu makes it a point to avoid pushing fixes for unreleased game to feign some sort of legitimacy for the "We're totally not pirates I swear!"
it's no masterpiece
Yeah that title still belongs to the original
Babys first jrpg
Two questions anons:
1) Do the post-game boss rematches give anything like unique items/equipment?
2) Is there an unlockable Hard mode for finishing the game or something or no?
Thank'oo.
>2) Is there an unlockable Hard mode for finishing the game or something or no?
Nope. You get weenie hut jr's mode and super weenie hut jr's mode.
1: Yes, you get a new weap for bowser, geno, and mallow to bring them on par with lazy shell/frying pan. Mallow's is a stick (pimp cane), Bowser's is an upgrade to chain chomp, geno gets a gun.
2: No, no hard mode, not at all. The only hard content (And that's being generous) is culex 3d, a rematch with culex, and the ultimate superboss (9999 hp)
There are more than three rematches, right? Do you get anything cool for the others? Does Super Culex drop anything?
You fight, in order:
Belome rematch (drops pimp cane for mallow)
then punchinello (upgrades chain chomp for bowser)
then Booster (drops engine gun for geno)
then bundt (drops extra shiny stone)
then Jinx (drops team band which increases rate of gauge increase for triple moves, and unlocks door to culex 3D which you then use extra shiny stone to enter, it's weird to explain, you have to do the jinx fight before the door appears, but then you need the extra shiny stone to open it, maybe you can do jinx earlier but frog sage doesn't tell you to go until after bundt so you'd have to go out of your way.)
Then you fight culex, when you beat him he stays around so you can refight him if you want, but he gives you a "Crystal shard", which is a key item that- does nothing, it's "the ultimate proof of strength". When you take it to frog sage he starts calling you mario sage, that's it, that's the end.
You can beat smithy again and then the bosses you refought show up in the cutscenes but that's it.
I'm just glad you get neat endgame rewards and it's not just refights for the sake of it. Thanks anons!
So a new Froggie Stick for Mallow, a new Chain Chomp for Bowser, and I dunno which weapon Engine Gun is an upgrade to for Geno.
Also, neat that Mallow's new ultimate upgrades his magic while Bowser's give a substantial attack upgrade over his previous ultimate.
It's a one hand gun but it's like a laser, for geno, the timing is pretty close to hand cannon but it's a laser.
You forgot the Johnny rematch. Bundt gives you an item that lets you revive once a match for free. Johnny gives the extra shiny stone to fight 3D culex.
If you wanna compare the old to the new weapons, here's the stats. Don't know if they have some extra effects like Lazy Shell's high amount of randomness.
>Geno
Star Gun: +57 attack
New: +62 attack
>Bowser
Drill Claw: +40 attack
New: +67 attack
>Mallow
Sonic Cymbals: +70 attack
New: +80 attack, +15 magic
>Make the enemies easier
>Make your characters stronger
>on baby first RPG
i don't get it
nintendofags REALLY hate jrpgs so they have to make it as painless as possible.
Is this really the case though or is it just Scott the Woz types? Because it seems like every JRPG series is moving from Sony to Nintendo. Except for Final Fantasy which may as well not even be a JRPG anymore. Not to mention Paper Mariofags complain all the time about how new entries aren't JRPGs.
He's just talking out of his ass. I've loved Nintendo and JRPGs since I was young. My older bro dealt drugs and had a PS1 with a fuckton of JRPGs so I got the best of both worlds.
Most people aren't some Nintendo only autists
>Because it seems like every JRPG series is moving from Sony to Nintendo
what you are noticing is everything now being multiplat, it's not moving "from" sony, it's still on playstation and also steam. it's also years worth of jrpgs that were not on nintendo systems being released on it because they moved 130 million units. like how the wii got call of duty ports because it was popular.
enemies aren't easier. They're very clearly adjusted to compensate for splash damage, and most moves that are now blockable when they previously weren't have INCREDIBLY heightened damage. Diamond saw went from dealing 30-40 on level 20~ chars to 90-100 unless blocked fully.
Enemies were already easy because
>baby first RPG
and these are weapons you get at literal endgame to prepare you for the new superboss.
Tendies are extremely bad at RPGs, like anything involving numbers is basically impossible for them to complete if it has even a modicum of difficulty at any point.
Every hardest game of all time is on a Nintendo platform.
>Drill Claw: +40 attack
>New: +67 attack
It's criminal that Bowser needed this to begin with because they fucked up his stat balance so horribly that he's worthless.
weird that neither Mario nor Peach get new final weapons.
Not that surprising considering both the Lazy Shell and the Frying Pan are off the beaten path and notably above the Bowser's Castle weapons + Ultra Hammer.
>mashing too fast makes the game not register it
i cannot believe they kept that.
The remake would have been better if they added onto the level design a little bit. The only differences I noticed is they put the forest save/treasure after the maze instead of before it. They also made the outside of the sunken ship better, but also ruined the entrance by making it a normal green pipe
fuck this shit
skill issue
just watch something else when doing this since it's literally a 50/50
I did, i watched youtube videos and just held up-left and mashed a, still took like 25 minutes
>RPG
😐
>RPG but with Mario
:O
RPG but with Pokémon?
>RPG
:/
>RPG but with ETRIAMS
:OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>RPG
🙁
>RPG but with ANIME GIRLS
:OOOOOOOO
Happens all the time
Well, yeah. Anime girls are fuckable.
and mario isnt?
But you cant fuck them.
Nature is a cruel mistress
im gonna stuff that fucking baby yoshi til he dies of diabetes
God damn this remake looks like shit.
that's literally an emulator issue since homosexuals can't stand to wait for a game, the models are fucked and darkened
The Yoshi's aren't even remotely the biggest issue. Although they look jarring compared to the background, even without them being darkened.
The whole thing looks like shit.
I just beat the game earlier on my OLED and thought it was a remarkably pretty game. Sorry to rain on your parade, miserablefag.
Why does IGN get to play it now and I don't? Genuine question. When other people get early access, it makes me want to buy the game less, it will all be experienced and spoiled by people who've had access before me, I think that's shit. It's annoying in single player games and downright harmful in multiplayer games, and has been the direct cause of me not buying plenty of games.
About sick of being left behind because I don't have a fucking youtube channel so they get what they get.
My zoomer friend, this isn't a case of "early access", the game has been leaked online and in the hands of pirates
So your options are:
1. Keep crying
2. Find out how to pirate games
Good luck zoomzoom!
I think you're a little confused, melanated individual. I am already playing the game, because if it got leaked, it means others got it early.
Pssst, that's never acceptable.
You talk like you're 15
cope harder about not being able to read, nagger.
>Why does IGN get to play it now and I don't?
You literally just said you weren't playing the game you homosexual lmao
In response as a hypothetical to the claim that "people can't wait to play it"
Why are only the chosen few allowed to play it?
I have a Switch and a pirated copy. Am I one of the chosen few?
I still think it's hilarious Boshi, and only Boshi, is rocking the 90s era Yoshi saddle.
Has anyone checked to see if that obscure item that turns enemies into sheep is still in the game?
"that obscure item" you mean the mystery egg that's super common and you just walk up and buy it from a shop?
Yes, it's still ingame, and upgrades to lambs lure and sheep attack when wearing booster's charm and using it.
It's fine but simple.
does anyone know where the new culex door is at , I have the extra shiny stone and beaded jinx rematch
>the actual best Mario RPG got a remake
>it ruined the art style, increased the loading times by 3 times, and bankrupted AlphaDream
Sigh.
You could play the original on the 3DS, so it was extremely unneeded.
Yeah there was honestly no point to remaking Bowser's Inside Story, the original game was already perfect and could be played on the 3DS anyways, maybe if it had been remade on the Switch it would have been a different story.
Alpha Dream said they didn't have the resources to make games for the Switch. It might have been a no-win situation.
They reportedly made the 2D events for that one Mario and Sonic Olympics Tokyo 2020 Games title on the Switch, that was probably their last credit.
>and bankrupted AlphaDream
AlphaDream was burning money since before the original Bowser's Inside Story. If anything, it's a miracle Dream Team happened. The remakes didn't recycle assets (along with them making new ones) because of "le soullessness", they were last ditch attempts to recuperate losses.
Its probably the best JRPG released this year. Only other contender is probably Star Ocean 2
Am I crazy or does Bowsers Terrify skill not have an action command that counts for the gauge?
Ive rotated the control stick like crazy but it wont count.
Wait nevermind it only counts the dpad for rotation for some unexplained reason.
>isometric game with simple 3d graphics
>still manages to stutter when loading new shit
fuck this fucking tablet man
how does it run on ryujinx? stutter ahoy I take it?
I played on Ryujinx and the only graphical issues I've had are some weird artifacts on the image rarely (almost looks like jpg compression artifacts) and sometimes when I open a menu the screen will bug out for a second. No stuttering though. Biggest bug I've had on ryujinx is that the audio desyncs from the cutscense a lot, also i think some sound effects are missing
it crashed right after boomer and before exor
fuck
Unironically runs better aside from cutscene desync.
Just answer me one thing. Do the Axem Rangers get a cutscene?
Yes
seriously, this is so fucking bullshit.
no matter the settings, no matter the firmware or keys, the game just keeps crashing on the latest ryujin.
Yuzu doesnt even read the game with the latest keys, and when it does, theres no sound.
why in the fuck it works in some computers and others not? its not fair that i have to wait one month after release for the game to be emulable.
lmao PC cucks are so pathetic
How do I fix the sound not syncing right in Ryuinx?
The Audio is fine for everything but the cutscenes.
It's good but barebones. Definitely does the "mario but RPG" better than the paper mario games for the most part.
It removed the "enter your name" part.
How does it handle Booster's door password? Switch profile account name?
Yes
Don't know if anyone already did it but here's the full modern ost in .hca format and with names.

NICE
Im kinda curious how Bowser performs if I went all magic attack instead of attack, but way too late to restart now.
I used his magic attacks and they seemed fine enough. Not amazing or anything, but they were at least useful, if expensive.
What did they do with the sprite downgrade easter egg in Booster's Tower? Is it still SMB Mario or did they change it to something else?
Still SMB Mario
its shit, nobody liked it back then nintendotroons pretend like it now
I'm surprised at the amount of soul retained for a remake. that said removing the run button makes some of the fun of jumping a lot more slippery. I'm in moleville but plan on beating this. i have been playing on breezy mode because nigga I ain't got time for shit
You can walk holding down l or r
Dodo looks nice in 3D
wtf the switch can render RTX? how is it reflecting that?
Probably pre-drawn textures.
FF4 boss remix is not the best, victory and prelude are very good though
is the nimbus land remake good
please i need to know
oh god its beautiful
thank god.
i was worried it'd get butchered
this is beautiful
It's easily top 5 RPGs all time
>can't jump on enemies before battle for an extra attack
what the fuck nintendo.
that literally only started in paper mario dipshit, the original game didn't do it either
yea i was just thrown off by that. the last super mario rpg i played was superstar saga.
soul
UUUUUUUUUUUUUH THIS IS NOT VIDEO GAMEY ENOUGH
Is there a pastebin on where to go to see all the post game stuff?
I did the sleep at Marrymore suite thing, then star hill, then grandpa frog who said something about the big yellow guard dog, so I'm guessing Belome temple?
