Isn't it a multiplayer game? How is the FOMO/event grind/pay to win?

        Anonymous

        FOMO/event grind
        It's ladder-based so non-existant
        >pay to win
That one is debatable. You can't buy anything other than skins and stash space.
However one of the types of stash space that you can buy allows you to put items up on an online marketplace.
Can you technically speaking do all of the games content without it? Sure, but you probably don't want to.

That sounds way better than most free mmo garbage that nickle and dimes you out of more than just storage space

            Anonymous

Oh it's much better. PoE's problem has never been monetization. It's the constant adding of new mechanics every 3 months that ended up making a bloated monstrosity and the developers obsessions with only nerfing good builds.

          >It's ladder-based so non-existant
          What does this mean exactly?

            Anonymous

Every 3 months they come out with a new content patch that also introduces a new league that you can only join with a fresh character.

Your characters and stash from the previous league get merged with the non-league part of the game that never resets. The new content also gets applied to this part of the game, but almost no one plays it really.

              Anonymous

What a "league"? Does it mean the old characters are cut off from content? Does old content get phased out and vaulted?

                Anonymous

                Ladder like in Diablo
Basically every few months patches come in, shit gets changed, make a new character and get 'world first' or some shit

                Anonymous

The league mechanics are applied to both the league and the non-league parts of the game so the old characters are cut off from the fresh start, but they can still play whatever mechanic and content the new league introduced.
                >Does old content get phased out and vaulted?
That depends. New skills and gear does not. Whatever the league introduced as a new mechanic(last one introduced a mini roguelike dungeon for example) may or may not make it into the base game. It's something the developers look at and decide after a league.

                Thank you guys
                I'll give it a try

they are bad at the game and don't actually play it, poe is a fricking miserable shit game in its current state because its developers are self absorbed deluded morons stuck in 1999 that only stay afloat because they are owned by china who pumps cash into them to keep the cash shop and loot boxes flowing

Online? Possibly Diablo 3 is, depending on what you actually want
PoE is massively a clusterfrick with meta builds being nerfed regularly
Diablo 2 is, unfortunately, Diablo 2. So builds more or less stay the same after say level 30 with the exception of a a few esoteric ones like a melee Sorc

I dunno about best all up, but it has the best character building for sure
Dual class + constellations + gear skill modifiers is fricking cool. I only wish it didn't have sets
Also play the Community League mod, it adds more of everything that makes GD cool in the first place

What are some other good ARPGs? Are the Torchlight games good? And Wolcen?

        Anonymous

Wolcen is quite alright on a technical and gameplay level. They are working on an update, but no release date so far. Wait for a sale though, like with all games.
People hate the game though for not being what they aimed at when it was a kickstarter.

Torchlight 2 is OK for a playthrough or two
Last Epoch is quite good in most respects, but still needs more content to be called great

          >if you're a buygay
Not really but I'll buy Grim Dawn since it's highly replayable and the best of those according to many
Maybe I'll get Titan Quest too

If you want something obscure go for last epoch. It's EA, but basically finished outside of multiplayer and like 2-3 classes. Shape-shifting druid is insanely fun.

I like it but the game is really gay with all the occult/freemasonic symbolism. Like I get it you are in a seekrit club and think it's so cool but tone it the frick down devs.

I used to prefer PoE but since they destroyed their own game by nerfing Exalts into the ground I play Grim Dawn when I wanna mindlessly cruise through an ARPG.

PoE seems hell bent on designing their leagues and mechanics to be as anti-fun as possible. Grim Dawn is great.

Like the classes, and customization, but goddamn enemy variety, mechanics, and bosses all suck. It's the same forest swamp field the whole fricking game. Maybe it changes on the highest difficulty but I could barely get through normal and hard

Wrong. The game has a bunch of different locations that look distinct.

does this look promising? coming out in 1 day

First screenshot is heralding all their arbitrary accolades, which is a red flag.
      Videos make it look okay.
Gameplay looks fine, visuals are nice and bright, but also seem to suffer from visual clutter.
UI is garbage. The ability targeting graphics look ripped directly from League of Legends (bad).
No skill tree (that I saw anyway, just a tree for unlocked items to craft) sounds a little refreshing.
A weird secondary focus on survival and crafting just sounds utterly out of place, but I won't say it can't work.
It doesn't look promising, but it could still be good.

Purely from an offline play perspective, none of that time gated season bs

The season stuff just gives you tons of gear, at least that's what the last one was like.
It's fun though, very basic and carried by how enjoyable the weapons are to use

homie what. there's no content, it's ugly, runs awfully, 4 affix gear, and it's $40 for a game that hasn't had an update in a year.

  30. 1 year ago

its fun to run through once but it has no longevity or replayability just like titan quest does. which is fine for normal games but arpg addicts need seasonal ladders/pvp/infinite grinding loop
