Why does Ogerpon like the MC more in the first place? It doesn't make much sense beyond the main character being a literal self-insert. The only think I could come up with is that the deceased foreign partner was Paldean and the main character reminds her of him.

And how is Ogerpon suppose to know that? It wasn't around them when they fixed it. They also never told Ogerpon who fixed it. In fact, Ogerpon was also dealing with the fraudulent Stooges at the time.

You're assuming bridges when there are none. She doesn't need to know who fixed it (or that it was broken in the first place). All she knows (and needs to know) is that she has her mask back. I'm not even the one that brought up the point.
The point being that who fixed what doesn't matter in Ogerpon's point of view. She just wants her mask back.
Everyone wants to say the protag did nothing when both you and Carmine get the cluster. The Grandpa has the skills to fix it. Yet only Carmine and the grandpa was mentioned. Carmine was the one to make both of you go get the cluster together specifically because she's "not too keen on letting outsiders up the mountain".
On top of that, you also forgot that the MC is the first one to Ogerpon's rescue. Everyone else came in later as backup after defeating Munkidori.

The only point (against this) I'll add is that kieran is the one to give her the mask and she says no unless it's the MC.
It's still retarded to say the MC had nothing to do with the mask being repaired let alone had nothing to do with Ogerpon's positive disposition.
In fact, no one seems alarmed about the writing forcing the characters on the MC when it isn't needed (like going up the mountain) and instead focusing on the other way around (The MC itself being forced).
You know, I think I finally understand what the plot was trying to convey. While Kieran telling the village the truth was nice I don't think Ogerpon really cared that much. She was only at the festival to try and grab her stolen masks that reminded her of her time with her fallen master.
Kieran didn't care about fixing her mask or fighting the loyal 3 and getting the others back. Instead he trained his team to fight you. His only nice gesture was, again, telling the village the truth. He thought ogerpon would appreciate that because he himself feels like the adults in his life owe him an apology.
He tries to offer the mask and is denied, because he didn't put any of the work in. He failed to consider ogerpon's feelings to the end and failed to truly understand her, choosing to seethe with jealousy.

Pokemon's entire lore relies on mental gymnastics and fan fiction tier theories to even make a lick of sense. Gamefreak clearly sucks at making stories (among other things), so they keep everything as simple as possible and hand wave inconsistencies, contradictions, and plot holes. The one time they even put a little bit of effort into lore/story wad gen 5, and most fans hated it.

The most likely answer however is that based on the text from the Ogerpon boss fight, something about the protagonist's vibes probably reminded Ogerpon of its former partner, and considering how long it's lived in solitude, it only seemed reasonable it would take towards the most familiar feeling it can find if it has to interact with someone new.
The fact that the main character goes on like nothing is wrong and even does a happy pose while Kieran is sulking in the same photograph after already having a falling out made me laugh. I guess the main character is canonically unempathic.
