Is this worth 30 bucks?

Is this worth 30 bucks? I haven't played the other metro games but I've been looking for an fps to play and this has some pretty good reviews.

Wait for a bigger discount. It's only really worth it if it's your first Metro game because they barely improve shit except the graphics. Story is mid-tier.

No. Do videogame spiders really bother you that much? I have strong arachnophobia but I don't think the spiders in the game creep me out any more than they would a regular person.

Not really, I do fine with most, but here it just creeps me out due to the noise.
This is one of the two types i've been disgusted by a game this way, the other one were the jellyfish from GTA SA.

The sound is pretty creepy, but it is supposed to be a series with strong horror elements so you should expect to be a little scared and creeped out. Give it a shot, anon, you gotta try and face your fears sometime. Plus the DLC where you torch them with a flamethrower is really satisfying.

I liked the first games and liked Exodus too. There were some dumb parts but overall I thought it was better than LL and Novosibirsk was the best area in the entire trilogy.

        >called Metro after the Moscow Metro

It was a soulless cash grab by the studio/publisher. It plays exactly like the shitty Tomb Raider reboots except in first person, and those are the most soulless corporate cash grabs in modern gaming

          >game is called Medal of Honor
          >you never actually get the medal of honor
It was a good change of pace for the series and considering it was the first times the devs have done a true open world they did a pretty good job. Spending so much time out in the open air made the last chapter much more impactful too.

If they actualyl cared about the series/IP then they should've made it a semi-open world game set inside the metro tunnels and Moscow surface. But that would require effort and research, so they just whipped up some uninspired forest, desert, and swamp maps that could be literally anywhere instead of visiting various stations in Moscow and making the game after that. They took the easy, money-grubbing way out when they could've made an incredibly unique game in a fascinating setting

              Anonymous

I would have preferred a semi-open world game centered around the metro too but I didn't mind the train trip across the country stuff either, it had a great vibe to it and let you see what was going on with the rest of the world. I don't think effort and research was the problem because we've already had two games with topside and metro stuff in it, plus that one DLC in LL which was kinda semi-open world, it just wasn't the direction they wanted to go in.

The map design is completely fine dude. The problem is that this game was always about surviving, it wasn't built to have this much freedom since there it is no big reason for you to be exploring that much in Exodus. You just kind of wander aimlessly in the last game toward the next objective and it does not feel right.

Oh and the plot ruins the past games. If the world survived the war then saving the Metro did not rescue humanity at all. Remember how tense and desperate it was in the start of 2033 when the dark ones were driving the survivors insane and now look at rhe world of Exodus. Lmfao. The backpedaling

That's why when they totally drop that plot after the first bunker the plot is pointless

It's in the books, too. The shadow government rep in the last book basically shrugs and goes "Yeah, we would have handled the dark ones somehow." It's a very specific point in the setting that people are trapped in the metro for no real good reason and that everything in there is crappy because of it.

                Anonymous

it's probably because the later books dont stress enough how the rest of the world is just as fricked as those living in the metro.

The whole point was a criticism by Dmitry about the old men in current Russian politics wanting a return to the glory days of authoritarian Soviet Russia. The government living in Metro-2 feels like gods watching over the people in the Metro and for that reason cooked up the whole double lie of "everyone is dead but us, but actually we're hiding from the USA because the war is still on, but ACTUALLY everyone really is dead and we just like to control your lives and every aspect of this new world we've created

I think the first book is easily the best; more mystical and spooky feeling. They aren't like the games much though; there isn't really much in the way of mutant shootouts and such like the games. It's amazing that he posted the whole thing online first before it got officially published and printed
The second one still has that vibe although I like Artyom more than the characters of the second. The third one was just too political about Putin and modern Russia and goes on a little too long imo

2033 is a must have, heard the comic version is also pretty good. 2034 is with an entirely different cast at a part of the Metro they don't go in the games, which does help with broadening the setting. 2035 is sadly, not a good book, and Metro Exodus' prologue is basically a retcon of 2035 with only the most important revelation of 2035 (there still being live outside of Moscow) being kept, alongside the Aurora crew, who got introduced in 2035, yet wouldn't accompany Artyom and Anna at the end of 2035.

Is that only for 2033 or is LL Redux also bad? I have the original versions of both 2033 and LL but I miss the LL DLC's and I can't get them anymore.

LL is already dumbed down so the Redux version of it doesn't do anything except make the graphics prettier.

            Only 2033.
LL already has all those changes from the original version, which is why it's the worst game of the 3.

Actually, the original LL is still a bit better too, since they made Redux brighter for no good reason.

yes but if you havent played the others maybe not. not because you need to play them first but because idk if you'll like the game or not. if you had already played the first 2 you will most likely this one and so yes $30 is worth it. I think the game is worth it regardless but idk what you like so you're taking a chance here

it's great, but I think you really only appreciate it after playing the first two, otherwise you won't give a crap about the characters
