Im honestly wondering what makes you think so. It has a really deep movement system that feels amazing to master. Its fun at its core unless you never learned about them
The map system is garbage, and the karma requirements are pains in the asses. The overseers don't give good and clear indications of where you're supposed to go a lot of the time, and they occasionally just disappear fucking completely.
Karma requirements are stupid because if you die, you have to farm food until your karma is high enough to pass through a gate. There's no indication of how much karma you need until you arrive in front of the gate itself. And with so many random/unpredictable deaths, it can be a gigantic pain in the ass.
The only way to enjoy this game is to use an online map and save scum or turn off all karma requirements.
Okay but you shouldn't be doubly-punished for every death. Your death doesn't just set you back from where you were physically, it sets your karma back as well, meaning you would have to farm and rest to get it back up to pass through some areas. Ergo, you're double-punished, which is a pain in the ass if you die from something that isn't your fault (ie: climbing vertically into an unseen lizard's mouth at the screen above)
Yeah exactly. Was real cool when i had to figure out to bring an egg to a moose so i can ride his back. Then his ai got stuck while i was on him and i got killed by a bird monster. Then it happened again except killed by the rain. Both times lost karma. It fucking sucks and is so annoying.
>moose

Those rabbits are such a fucking pain in the ass. They never do what you want them to, and they never crouch down low enough so that it's easy to get on them.

Every problem you are having stems from a lack of understanding mechanics and game knowledge. You'll always get plenty of food if you need it, you are probably missing a source of food somewhere.
Experimenting is important
If you do just want a game that will always point you in the right way then I can't help you
You're misrepresenting my argument. If you die in a tough spot you'll have to farm food and rest and repeat, typically running out of food and having to move to another, less safe area, which further exposes you to more danger. It's an annoying fucking system where you're double-punished. The game would be better without karma.

Pebbled having to go through the spiel so many times made me laugh. The way the dlc handled it with gourmand was so fucking funny to me I don't care how dumb it is.
I like the swimming in rain world. Problem is that since nothing is explained and the swimming mechanic might feel counterintuitive at first, many new players keep drowning themselves. I can see how early reviewers hated it too, from what I heard you were almost invisible underwater in the early version of rain world. Still happens at some points, like when it rains it gets really difficult to see anything underwater which sucks.
To swim like a fish, you wiggle like a fish. It's unintuitive in a "how you normally interact with vidja" sense but in practice its just pure genius. I wasn't sure how to feel about downpour tweaking drowning but it makes sense when fucking submerged exists now. Now instead of instantly floating up and getting stuck on the ceiling it ramps up and you can steer away to air pockets before losing control.

Those examples are a bit weird, since The Wall and Subterranean felt like places where karma doesn't really matter. The bigger karma blocks for new players is probably Industrial and Underhang. Industrial is okay since it's a rather fair area. Underhang might suck though, you need max karma to progress, it's easy to fall to your death and food can be tricky to find. Underhang even got electrified once in my first playthrough (some kind of shelter failure event?) which killed me a few times too, that was frustrating.

>Underhang even got electrified once in my first playthrough (some kind of shelter failure event?)
Once? It happens every time there instead of rain.
Underhang is actually quite comfy once you get to the shelter. It's an endgame area, so you should be proficient at avoiding/killing lizards if you get there, and there's enough of their shit you can eat.
The leg is a lot more stressful for me, since there's no place where you can just chill. And the fucking dropwigs.

Oh yeh, I suppose that would be weird for some people. Air=Boost kinda felt intuitive to me though cus I've played atleast one other game that works like that, though outside of leech hell and swimming to moon theres no where you really need to actually boost.
Two region mods that really used swimming mechanics to its best imo was Aether Ridge which encouraged you to carry both a flashfruit and bubbleweed so you could swim around in the dark- and Oceanic Aqueducts which featured HORRIFIC salamander infested waterways encouraging you to boost past them. Swimming in rain world is so cool I wish downpour did more with it in rivs campaign bar a few flooded shelter failures and substructure
Chimney is also a big one for new players. The walk to the wall is a really common place for new players to die because they aren't brave enough to get to the edge and leap properly or know about throwboosting/rollpouncing. Also sky islands will absolutely fuck people who likewise haven't learned basic platforming so that way is a no go. Also because vulture encounters in industrial are often rare its usually where people first get picked off while attempting to climb. And before downpour the entire right hand side of chimney was just a big fucking loop with a hidden pair of hookworms.
It's also where most hunter runs go to die.

Not him, but the game is designed that your skill level will increase through full exploration. The game rewards experimentation and quick movement, if you always do the slow approach you get mogged and that's all on you.

>WOW it's SO FUN bouncing back and forth between the two save points to collect enough food and rest enough times without being killed in order to actually eventually be able to progress
Bad gameplay.
You do have to rest multiple times but the fact that you have to go to new areas to get food is exactly what makes it not farming.
You're exactly not repeating the same shit, your just trying to get to the same end point of 4-7 food. Sometimes that'll take a while or you'll face a setback but that isn't anything to just give up over. The game always provides decent avenue for recovery if you play well
>He doesn't go wherever it's most fun to explore, using overseers as nothing more than a guideline >He doesn't see food farming as a challenge to survive for 10 minutes in a dangerous environment
You don't know why it's fun. Swimming is awful though, fluid movement but you run out of air far too quickly and there are far too many points where you're made to make every second of air count just to progress
I like the swimming in rain world. Problem is that since nothing is explained and the swimming mechanic might feel counterintuitive at first, many new players keep drowning themselves. > The map system is garbage
They're a series of normal 2d maps. There's nothing so unorthodox about them to cause you confusion.
> The overseers don't give good and clear indications of where you're supposed to go a lot of the time, and they occasionally just disappear fucking completely.
Learn to navigate an environment without the 24/7, objective-focused guidance of waypoints. Explore the space, that's half the game.
> Karma requirements are stupid because if you die, you have to farm food until your karma is high enough to pass through a gate
Yeah.
The game ensures that you are competent enough to navigate and survive in the area you are currently in - because the next area is going to be harder.
> The only way to enjoy this game is to use an online map and save scum or turn off all karma requirements.
You can play however you want. It's a singleplayer game
However, I want you to know that you are objectively a huge pussy.
I don't know if it's hated per se, but their constant screams of IT DIDN'T SELL IT DIDN'T SELL IT DIDN'T SELL about a decade ago really damaged its reputation.
This game took me a while to actually get used to. I quite the game for a month after getting stuck inside the hell that is drainage system. Once I got back to the game however, I finally started getting better at the mechanics and stopped dying all the time. This game has an immense but very satisfying learning curve.
Drawanon from last RW thread here. If you wanna sneak peek of one (and only one) of the nsfw pics Im working on, I can provide. I finished coloring the main bodies. Pick between survivor, gourmand, riv, arti, and saint. All are fem.
I havent made a background yet and Id really like to, so Im avoiding posting more than one sneak peek until then. Or I might just give up on the bg and post them all without it, lol.
Well I made it thicker than the others.. Not exactly into obesity myself, so that's as far as I wanna push it. Apologies to all the architects out there.
oh boy seems like the contrarians who infested the last thread have come back once again. hopefully theyll get bored and disappear before long like the last one so we can continue our genuine discussion. seriously i dont understand why they just have to enter threads about games they dislike. theres obviously a lot of people who enjoy the game and want to discuss it, its on topic, etc.
so why the fuck even come in here? just go in threads about games you actually like. i cannot imagine being this mentally ill.
People can acknowledge flaws in games they enjoy, anon. You can engage in debate if you'd like, but you whining about people daring to discuss issues with the game is just dumb noise.
except its not people merely acknowledging flaws in games they enjoy, youd especially know this if you experienced the previous thread not long ago.
its people who likely never played the game complaining about things theyve heard based on bandwagons or literal twitter politics. theyre not giving ANY room for discussion whatsoever, theyre being entirely antagonistic with no intent other than creating flamewars.
I don't know. I used to read reviews in gaming mags, then on like ign websites. Now it's all shitty gay video reviews and i've also realized what a shitshow 'gaming journalism' is.
Generally i just read random steam reviews, see what Ganker says and get an idea of the average experience
I understand why journalists hate it, 'cuz playing (or at least reviewing) games is their job and they don't have the time to truly enjoy games like Rain World, games that take patience and perseverance to truly understand and appreciate. At least that's how I feel.
I played this for the first time when downpour came out. Took quite a while to get used to the controls and overall design but it was fun. Completed survivor and artificier but got filtered by gourmand
So far the only thing that's really frustrated me is the grapple worm, in a game full of inspired realistic interaction just a random fucking grappling hook creature. It isn't hunted by any of the other creatures for whatever reason and I just hate using it, I'm getting better but slugcats normal movement feels a lot better to me.
This is my first time in the canopies
It's so weird to me people keep hating on the karma system, when
* it works quite well in preventing you from accidentally wandering into an area that's too hard for you
* I personally never had much of a problem with it
And almost nobody ever mentions actual bad aspects of the game, like
* you can't see beyond screen transitions, but other creatures can
* no indication whether a drop is a screen transition or death
* some things that look like foreground are actually background and vice versa
Just convinces me the haters didn't actually play the game.
Has anybody else noticed some weirdness with enemy AI since the Downpour update? I've been having a lot of problems in Memory Crypts with this one mirros bird. It just sits right there near the edge of the screen forever, sometimes going back and forth, but very rarely ever leaving. It's almost as if it can't get enough momentum to climb the terrain to the right. I never seemed to have this problem before Downpour.
I can tell you right now they've always been dumb shits like this. But yes the AI was tweaked but it didn't fix things it just moved the cracks around. Even back playing the martyr in 1.5 ive had miros birds get stuck on the pipes and refuse to move. It's the same shit that causes lizards to get stuck walking in deathloops but its more noticeable with the den creatures like deer and miros.
I wouldn't know, I don't acknowledge anything every said or written about by them.
yet you still participate in Ganker culture. curious.

It happens when it rains, but I remember one time underhang was electrified at the start of the cycle, periodically.
It's also where most hunter runs go to die.
>to me, who am, if you
Anon you don't have any real things to argue about. All you've made are points about how design decisions have pushed the game away from your own subjective preferences, instead of objective points about how the design might have pushed it further away from its own goal. Which isn't to cater to your preferences its to provide a specific experience.
I don't care if you thought something was tedious, tedium would be a part of a slugcats life
>Game is designed to shit on bad players
>Get shat on
Lmao git gud
>Design goal
You are a small animal, near the bottom of a food chain trying to survive in the ecosystem
>Delivered game
You are a small animal, near the bottom of a food chain trying to survive in the ecosystem
NO THE DESIGN IS BAD BECAUSE I SUCK AND KEEP DYING
Not him, but the game is designed that your skill level will increase through full exploration. The game rewards experimentation and quick movement, if you always do the slow approach you get mogged and that's all on you.
If your survival instinct is to freeze, be slow I'm not sorry that you are at the bottom of the food chain.
The game always provides decent avenue for recovery if you play well
>He doesn't go wherever it's most fun to explore, using overseers as nothing more than a guideline
>He doesn't see food farming as a challenge to survive for 10 minutes in a dangerous environment
I can see how early reviewers hated it too, from what I heard you were almost invisible underwater in the early version of rain world. Still happens at some points, like when it rains it gets really difficult to see anything underwater which sucks.
git gud
A tale as old as time Ganker 'there goes mr hardcode' Ganker whines and complains when a game is too hard for him
> The map system is garbage
I disagree. It is fun and enjoyable to master the movement system. The game gets exponentially better the more you play.
Glad someone else said it.
See
based. its also hated by conchudians
>indie
>unintuitive
>huge learning curve
>commercially unremarkable, culturally irrelevant
>still hated by contrarians
that's how you know its good
I don't know if it's hated per se, but their constant screams of IT DIDN'T SELL IT DIDN'T SELL IT DIDN'T SELL about a decade ago really damaged its reputation.
I dunno but rain world is hated by people with taste
cope
t. shit taste
Or I might just give up on the bg and post them all without it, lol.
i wanna see gourm
Well since thread is almost dead and youre the only asker.. here ya are.
https://files.catbox.moe/1ubgy1.png
>gourmand
>not morbidly obese
Well I made it thicker than the others.. Not exactly into obesity myself, so that's as far as I wanna push it. Apologies to all the architects out there.
Late reply but that's hot as hell
Just glass people like you already
Seethe.
More like cringe and feel awkward around
oh boy seems like the contrarians who infested the last thread have come back once again. hopefully theyll get bored and disappear before long like the last one so we can continue our genuine discussion. seriously i dont understand why they just have to enter threads about games they dislike. theres obviously a lot of people who enjoy the game and want to discuss it, its on topic, etc.
so why the fuck even come in here? just go in threads about games you actually like. i cannot imagine being this mentally ill.
Generally i just read random steam reviews, see what Ganker says and get an idea of the average experience
rain world isn't a bad game but it does have one hell of a learning curve, even after they patched the game to have a bit more handholding
It sparked the huge "games MUST be le easy" debate
Which is wrong
I got gifted this recently on xbox because I'm a gamer girl 😉 tips?
Ma'am do NOT redeem
tips?
Leave the thread, go play the game, do not look up anything *at all*. Come back when you're done. You'll be a changed man.
