It was actually, truly, and unironically more "classic" resident evil in principle than literally any of the remakes and 8. I might say even more than 7, but 7 was trying to be a bit different.

Stuff like the painting puzzle with predator and prey felt like straight out of classic RE and the general way the game led you around the mansion was less blatantly railroaded. You'd get key items decently out of the way of their locks and such. It's not perfect, but it's on the right track

Capcom, because the RE fanbase are moronic morons that unironically lauded RE2R, and also because Capcom are pussies that can't help but play it safe, will probably abandon the closest they've gotten to the only RE game I've ever not immediately been disappointed by, because morons don't know how to criticize things with nuance and will just whine about anything and everything.

Unironically, Capcom should move forward with Rose, but just not reuse assets. The DLC had alot of good ideas. Genuinely good ideas like the mannequins, powers could use some work, but they were what obviously felt missing from 8's combat in retrospect. Not enough balance on what Ethan could do to stop enemy advances compared to someone like Leon. He was too reliant on weapons, which is cringe, since guns are fundementally just point and click.

Not that I have any faith in the series from here on. Or particularly care whether anyone agrees here. RE circlejerk is strong, and people will find any excuse to whine about being called out. Which is very convenient when you have a collective of mindless morons cheering you on. My thoughts needed airing out though. And everybody else needs to kill themselves.

    >spewing utter blasphemy
The Rose DLC was literally, one of the worst campaign DLCs I've ever played. It follows NO design sensibilities from RE8. It is the most bullshit, hand holdy, casual friendly, LINEAR on rails trash I have ever seen in the franchise since RE4. The final boss was decent. Every line of dialogue is cringe incarnate.

      >It is the most bullshit, hand holdy, casual friendly, LINEAR on rails trash I have ever seen in the franchise since RE4.

All RE games are linear and casual. Imagine being moronic enough to unironically think otherwise. When RE games aren't "casual" it's not that they're actually not casual. It's just that they're trial and error, and you need prior knowledge like Code Veronica and Zero that become trivial as long as you know what to do.

Oh stfu you're focusing on strawmen. No proper RE (anything except 4-6) handholds you in such a ridiculous way as the Rose DLC does. It has a companion character that literally feeds you ammo and tells you exactly where to go and what to do. It's note even remotely good by RE8 standards.

RE 8 > RE 4 and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

why? I'm curious. I could see this being legitimate if RE8's combat wasn't just so fundementally flawed for me.

The reality is that RE4 isn't actually that amazing of a game. It's a game that could so clearly be better and improved upon.

But at the same time. Because it's an incredibly simple game that doesn't try to do too many things at once and complicates itself. It's also an incredibly safe and reliable game. A game that does very little wrong. That doesn't try to cheat you too often. Doesn't rely on trial and error. Etc.

It's also a game that gets away with way too much. So many criticism applied to other games, within the series and not. Could just as much be applied to RE4, but it gets away with it. But that's another conversation entirely.

For one thing exploration in RE8 is more rewarding than RE4. It also doesn't spoon feed you the lore but you pick it up from exploring. The combat was fine. If we're talking about peak combat then RE2 Remake was way better, just look at speed runs for RE2, everything is perfectly balanced.

          >If we're talking about peak combat then RE2 Remake was way better

          Not even remotely.

          >just look at speed runs for RE2, everything is perfectly balanced.

what?? who cares about speedruns. judgment of speedruns are fricking subjective anyway, has nothing to do with how good combat is or isn't. Infact I'd say good combat is fundementally antithetical to what speed runs seek out to accomplish. The frick even is this kind of argument? lmao

RE2R is like the easiest game to expose how moronic people are. Game is like one of the biggest fumbles in recent history, a game that could be great, but is actually the true indication of stagnation of the series because morons don't understand how to analyze anything and unironically think the game is almost perfect.

Sometimes it makes me think there has to have been some sort of psyops, because it's not that fundementally different from 3make, or 7 and Infact 7 might just have better level design straight up.

If I had to theorize. It's a combination of it being a remake of a "classic" that is simultaneously beloved, but not actually that relevant in modern times. So it's what I like to call "inherited nostalgia" it doesn't matter whether people played the original. It's a game thats supposed to be from the big horror franchise, that is a "classic" and "classic" = good. So people like the idea of participating in a classic in a modern context because social cohesion dictates that you validate the things that are beloved without reason or context because the effect they have on the past influences the future people.

I'm right. But my explanation is a bit shaky.

Anyway your response was more boring than I expected so whatever

Based as frick, the only people that glorify RE4 are Gamecube bandwagoners who are into shootbang games. RE4 was never a holy cow, the peak of the series has always been RE2.

My point is that it had potential more than anything. Introduced a lot of newish near ideas that if properly developed on, good genuinely be a peak resident evil game.
