    >what if we made a console out of the SegaCD

Basically this. It was a merge of the CD and 32X. It wasn't even designed with 3D graphics as priority

especially considering the segacd came out what? 3 months before the saturn?

        3 years, not 3 months.

        You're thinking of the 32X.

Sega told the entire game industry and stores they would release the console in September, but launched it in June

It did okay in Japan. Why it failed in the rest of the world is well documented and there's like 40 youtube videos on it. The tldr is shit marketing and giving retailers LESS THAN ZERO time to get ready for it.

Also, the market switched to 3d and the saturn was made as a 2d power house. Most of their plans went out of the window last minute.
Reviewers at the time also hated 2d games.

Bad launch, bad marketing, overpriced. Things like that. Not for lack of quality titles.

It was the best Sega console, and miles better than the N64.

Still didn't come close to the PC Engine, though. Now THAT was a console.

It was really good but poorly priced and marketed. Today owning one is a treasure, and there is a very large library you can access at virtually no costs. Almost everything on it is exclusive to that hardware too, so you'll find a ton of games that you've never heard of that are right up your alley.

    It survived the playstation
It's more that can be said about the other 10+ cd rom consoles and commodore
Without the moronic surprise launch, they probably would be just fine

I went to school in the mid 90s, I knew maybe one kid with one of these. Meanwhile, every kid had an N64 or a PlayStation. I was an idort, I had NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PlayStation, and later even a Dreamcast but even I didn't have a Saturn. Nobody did.
