marketing is necessary for any product even if it’s free word of mouth years after it’s released. the problem is that they overspend marketing to the wrong demographics on the wrong platforms or over market and this money HAS to come from the development budget of the game

If it's a single player experience they got nothing to bait you with to pay full price. If the game is great and award winning it will get a complete/GOTY package for cheap/ even cheaper if you go the physical disc route. It seems most of these 80 dollar base prices are from AAA studios that you could be just fine ignoring exist; and get it for pennies later. You can only really be baited by online experiences/ live services. And live service models you are just rolling the dice on when the company shits the bed and abandons it. Or maybe its a golden gem somehow

We don't get Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Half Life, Doom, Super Metroid, Star Fox 64 etc quality made anymore by big studios anymore. 1990's price, 1990's quality.
Ironically, the only stuff that even comes close to that quality now are indies, which are priced around $5 to $30 in current money.

Nobody is going to impulse buy an $80 game. Publishers are not only brain-dead, the government needs to step in a regulate the prices.

PSN charging $59.99 for a seven year old digital game should 100% be illegal. It's price gouging. All that bullshit about short-selling GameStop was no doubt due to Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.

No. The market is much larger and there are no manufacturing costs. They should be much cheaper as a result, especially considering most of the world is dirt poor. Stores should get NO profit. Torrents or something like limewire should serve as distribution. People pay IF they like something, and whatever they can, even to whoever in the credits they think deserves it. Review sites should be circumvented. People should acheive great taste through passion passed on or from experience revealing what is shit or not based on the amount of effort and faith put into something. Eg if it looks japanese it's fricking fricked. Now frick off.
