Remedy begrudgingly tack "gameplay" onto their stories. And put 0 effort into refining them. Its the same shit as Control, QB, Alan Wake 1. Funky setting for an up its own ass story and some truly 6/10 game mechanics that never develop in complexity after the first encounter.

Sam Lake is cut from the same cloth as Hideo Kojima, dudes with massive chips on their shoulder that they aren't writing prestige TV or blockbuster movie scripts.

Hey come on at least Kojimbo has the balls and the decency to actually try with his gameplay.

I fricking despised Death Stranding's story but the extremely autistic delivery simulator was incredible. It was pure 100% gameplay driven ludo paired with the actual mechanic of players helping each other out as you all built infrastructure together. Sam Lake WISHES any of his games had that level of gameplay. People want to jerk off AW2 with muh live action slop but only Kojima has the audacity to make a AAA eurotruck sim.
And let's not forget Kojima singlehandedly flipped the entire horror genre for fricking years with a single damn demo.

        Anonymous

I agree I was too hard on Kojima. He also doesn't fall back on spoofing a certain style to cover being a shit writer. Sam, past a point, your not doing a bit by having Alan be a shittier stephen king. You're just a bad writer. At least with Max Payne the griping is bearable because noir has a timeless pessimism to it, but the ESL intentionally bad twin peaks rip off was stale in alan wake 1 and its not gotten any better with a decade on the fricking sidelines. God I hate remedy.

          >Alan be a shittier stephen king
that funny because lake fancies himself a David Lynch, he ape's his style so much it's embarrassing.

It doesn't even makes sense. Alan wake 2 is more like an auteur indie film than anything remotely trying to be a block buster.

It's bad because the combat is janky, the dream logic of the puzzles is unintuitive, the plot board and the mind place are both shitty mechanics that frick up the pacing, the investigative parts just consist of wandering around and exhausting all of every npcs quirky and painfully slow dialog, the only actual horror in the game are the random cheap mr scratch jumpscares, the collectibles are tedious, trudging through the same paths in the semiopen world is boring and the ending is shit.

it's just not for me, I tired it twice but just got fed up, the story wasn't engrossing enough for me to slog through the terrible gameplay, if they removed the mind place/story board gimic, Imporved the controls a bit to make they a bit more responsive/movement speed, and there was more to do than scouring the environment for places to click on it might be decent, as it stand it's just too boring for me.

I had fun. Played it once and enjoyed it but Saga's parts have terrible pacing due to the Mind Space/Profiling. The nursing home segment was fantastic though. But I tried doing a second playthrough and got bored and uninstalled. Probably will do a second playthrough when the DLC comes out.

You didn't play the game. She says she's Swedish through her mom. But even her grandparents on her mom's side are Americans with Swedish heritage. Tor and Odin were born in the USA, meaning Saga is a 5th generation American with Swedish heritage. The only reason she brings it up is because someone comments on her sweater pattern and said it reminds him of his home (Norway I think) and she replies that its a Swedish design.

makes sense, since they changed her race after making the character. Also, she may or may not be the daughter of Mr. Door

Do all enemies need two flash charges on Saga's part or am I doing something wrong

          Anonymous

No. The enemies have a weakspot, usually around the stomach, and that's where you have to aim. It's possible to clear the darkness shield with 1 charge, but it's hard.
I found out that loading the game restores spent charges within the same battery, but it was never necessary for me to do it, as the game gives you resources according to what you need

She's basically confirmed to be his daugher; after the musical battle, Door talks to Wake and during the whole "so the masks come off" dialogue, Door tells Alan "you're affecting someone close to me, you're writing her into your story" or something to that effect, clearly referencing Saga. Then there's the whole "Odin and Tor banished Door from their lives to protect their family" part, which is implied to be the reason that Freya and Saga left Bright Falls once Door was struck by lightning and disappeared.

It's bad because it's a fricking walking simulator with turbo woke scenes that make no sense, and they break the immersion constantly by fricking beginner mistakes.
Just by looking at the dance scene should disqualify this games as anything serious.

I'm annoyed that this on Epic tbh. Should I wait the 6 months till it inevitably comes to steam or what V/ros/?
t.i liked the first Alan wake but I don't think the gameplay holds up at all. It's clunky AF and 99% about memorisation as to when is best to use the flare gun etc

I enjoyed it a lot. I also played AW1 multiple times on launch and then later on PC. Also played Control and the DLC multiple times. I played QB and AWAN once. Although Quantum Break isn't in the shared universe, Hatch/Door and Joyce/Breaker are parallel universe versions of each other. Anyways, basically I really love the whole Remedy franchise stuff related to Alan Wake so to me, it was worth the day one purchase. If you're not that invested, maybe wait for a sale or for a Steam release. Also, while I dislike Epic too, it's kind of worth it for the free games even if having a second launcher pisses me off. I got both The Evil Withins for free, Tsushima too, not that I'll play the latter, but every so often its just worth having an account for
