Is this seriously some dumb meme I'm not aware of?
Everyone always says PCSX2 sucks, but I've never had any problems with it other than occasionally fricked up shadows. Games run great, look great, widescreen patches work great. Whole thing works really well.
Admittedly, I'm not the most technically adept person out there, but as long as the games play fine and don't look super fricked then I don't really care too much if they're inaccurate in places, so long as I can play them easily.
I do have a PS2 lying around though. Should I bother with the freemcboot or whatever. Can I get a good picture out of it?
>A lot of issues you wouldn’t know unless you played the original.
So you admit they are so insignificant that you can enjoy the game just fine and only nitpicky homosexuals like you will notice anything. >oh no the shade of green on the emulator is one off the real deal, UNPLAYABLE
This is what most people mean when they say emulators are "inaccurate".
Things have been getting better at a pretty fast rate since there's a lot of knowledgeable devs now working on PCSX2 who want accuracy & preservation instead of hobbyists who are only interested in hacking the frick out every game with CPU & plugin hacks to single games to work properly. They finally started showing the nightly builds on the official site which everyone should be using over the "stable" builds. Transparency was finally fixed in MGS2/3 like 6 months ago so while it's still slow, shit is actually getting fixed in a proper way these days.
is this a meme? unless you are an idiot and using PCSX2 Stable which hasnt been updated in years, theres nothing wrong with it.
>Plug and play device is more hassle than scurrying the Wiki to play tech support for a buggy emulator pr. individual game
Wauv! You sure are moronic.
People put up with emulation because it's free homie, not because it's "hassle free"

What's the fricking point of using emulation if you can't utilize hardware mode for any game that's not Crash Bandicoot or R&C. Software mode is dookie.
So again, it's dookie.
it's like asking someone to play a PS2 game on an LCD using the junky composite cables it came with. Why would you ever? Unless you just don't know better.

True. People send death threats to an emu dev (ps2) because it didn't run well on their old phones and most of them never providing anything like what game lags or what settings they used.
in that I think it could be the Chinese israelites of Damon PS2. kek capable these threads is made by those who continue to sell PS2 accessories, and that is an Open source emulator that anyone can copy the code or make their own (or improve it for themselves if they want).
yeah, it's a meme, because one buthurt homosexual can't get over his one favorite special niche as frick game having settings he has to change every time.
It's obviously a step down from stuff like Duckstation or Dolphin that have become completely moron-proof. But it's also fine most of the time, and fine almost all the time if you don't mind 10 minutes of tinkering.
Depends on what you're after. If you just want to play the games it's fine almost all the time. If you want an experience matching what you'd get on original hardware or a completely artifact/bug free experience + upscaling it's not as good but getting better. It's not up to snuff yet to be a preservation-tier experience like mednafen or even dolphin can be but that's nobody's fault but the autists who designed the original hardware.

Good modern converters can deinterlace far better than emulation.
Playing on hardware with component cables and a proper converter will beat PCSX2 *any day*.
I'm kinda pressing X on that, but even if so, how many hundreds of dollars do you need to spend for a converter that isn't some Aliexpress garbage, with simple bob/blend deinterlacing and filtered non-integer upscaling to max 720p/1080p, so the TV still has to scale it once again and blur it even more? And for what? For the same inauthentic experience as PCSX2 in software mode, but with 5x the hassle and extra fuzziness from the analog conversion?

$120 for a RetroTink x2 and it's plug and play. $300 if you want up to 4K resolution and deinterlacing (without lag, mind you) with the RetroTink x5. If you have two braincells to rub together, managing to plug in some cables, it's less hassle than setting up PCSX2 to work for specific games, and I guarantee it looks better, without the bugs that come with emulation.

You obviously haven't used it in a decade. You don't need to do any per-game stuff, and everything works just fine in software mode. So $300 to have two more crap lying around the TV, more power bricks, take up another HDMI slot, for no benefit.

With that amount, it's better to buy a PS2 and a CRT TV if you want the 100% original experience. If you just want to re-play and hang out, the emulator is better
It is better than nothing though? I'm not smart enough to improve on it, and I sure as shit can't be fricked tracking down games and dusting off my PS2 when I feel like playing it, so yeh I'll settle for something that works, even if it is subpar in many ways
Just FYI if you weren't aware, Rainbow Six 3 console is kinda dogshit, play the PC version instead. There's no reason to play Pandora Tomorrow or Chaos Theory on PS2 unless you specifically just want to see the neutered levels. Play it on PC instead, it has better graphics and gameplay.
Double Agent is only worth playing if you play the Xbox version, and xemu is now good enough to play that (if you have an Nvidia card. AMD has shit performance on xemu). On PS2, Wii and GC the levels are all cut down, and you can't OCP or shoot out like 2/3rds of the lights which makes it play terrible.
Manhunt had a softlock mid game when I played it. Don't know if that's fixed in the newer nightlys, but the workaround is on the wiki.
GPU is only relevant for increasing the rendering resolution, and even then, you can increase rendering resolution on fricking desktop Intel IGPUs to a certain degree.
I have no issues with the people who use this emulator.
I tried it three years ago with Ratchet and Clank, I thought that the game ran fine, but then I looked at gameplay online, turned out the game ran slower and didn't know.

Only game i've come across with a legitimate issue is onimusha 4. This bpss doesn't fight back, same with the flying dudes. This doesn't occur on actual hardware. fricking strange since this isn't even documented on the pcsx2 wiki
I find the AI frickups to be top priority, everything seems to suffer in some way with the behavior of enemies and partner AI. but yes, the post processing is still broken with 1.7.
But one thing that did get fixed recently is that the genma general attacks shake the screen now like it did on ps2.
Any games with heavy post processing is fricked on PCSX2 especially if you upscale.
I tend to defend PCSX2 because it's indeed better than nothing but holy frick if your game use full screen post processing effects like this you're better off disabling it with hacks and add it back with reshade.
You wouldn't have to do this if the emu was actually good.
I really liked newpixie-crt, but after a while it's just way too cluttered. Still probably my favorite for ultra-low-res, but otherwise I'm just using guest. Not mega bezels though, shit takes way too much space.
I don't get you fricks.

How the frick is it contrarian to say that it's a shit emulator? Learn what words mean before you open your stupid mouth.
He's suggesting that it's popular, ironically, given that more people opt for modding a PS2 instead of dealing with pcsx2.
Where are you getting your statistics for this statement?
You must have extremely low standards or just don’t know what to look for. A lot of issues you wouldn’t know unless you played the original.
If you have a disk drive and a memory card you have everything to make a freemcboot drive.
Freemcboot memory card*
do it if you want a project(or you've run into the rare game that pcsx2 still can't support). If you're satisfied just playing games don't bother.

The second you try to play relatively unpopular games, it's nothing but issues.
99% of issues and inaccuracies are related to the hardware graphics modes, just use software.
What's the fricking point of using emulation if you can't utilize hardware mode for any game that's not Crash Bandicoot or R&C. Software mode is dookie.

PS2 is worthless without a CRT.
You can get an HDMI converter.

No. You're much better off with Pcsx2 in that case.
Doesn't PCSX2 still not have a proper deinterlacer?
They added a fairly decent one a few months ago.

you have a distorted view of what an average laptop is.

You wouldn't have to do this if the emu was actually good.
what game?
It's unfixable, even stenzek now just adds per-game fixes to the game database
>people using anything other than crt-royale
>people still use royale over guest-adv
I really liked newpixie-crt, but after a while it's just way too cluttered. Still probably my favorite for ultra-low-res, but otherwise I'm just using guest. Not mega bezels though, shit takes way too much space.
I don't get you fricks.
I use both my ps2 and pcsx2 and frick all of you.
Imagine wanting to play games at shit resolution and framerate only because you want le epic crt
works on my machine
>LUL ITS SO SHIT
>Ancient outdated version
>i5-2500
>GTX 560
>Dogshit cursed roms from legitps2juegosdescagar.xyz
>Fricking with the settings when he has no clue what half of them do
Like clockwork
(You) should just get a ps2 if you can't use a computer right
>install FES HD
>other mods won't run
Anyone who thinks it's terrible either uses a laptop from 2013 or they don't know about the nightly builds and are still using the "stable" release from 7 years ago
It suck so hard as balls because I can't even run or play Transformers Armada PS2 without glicthing buggy low framerate etc.
