Bloody hell, did they just not only did the exact same shit than what Rockstar did with the GTA trilogy DE, but did it on a much larger time frame? Was this done by Indians again?

What is this obsession with re-creating old games in Unity?
This isn't even in some one-off custom engine made of slav magic, Kingpin is a Quake 2 engine game for frick sake.

I'm sure it's not exactly easy either way but it's probably cheaper to throw 100 indian "unity devs" to the project than it would be to hire actually competent developers to bring the ol' thing up to modern standards.
It's a shame btw, I was kinda looking forward to this.

unity is better than quake 2 engine, moron.

        >using unity in this day and age instead of trying to modernize idtech2 has some benefits to it
I'm sure this is what you meant but the little mouthbreathing moron full of anger inside of you took over and you just blurted that out. You're not necessarily wrong but using unity to make a badly optimized clone of a +20 year old game built on an OPEN SOURCE engine with multiple modern ports even is kinda fricking annoying at the least.

I just played Turok 3 and enjoyed it, so surely will like Kingpin too.

Never quite understood and liked the game when it was first released, only played it actively in multiplayer for a while. Still interested to try out and finish it now.

It never started, game was alwas dogshit, the only thing "good" about it was the gangster dirty setting, but even that wore off after 2 to 3 hours of playing this piece of shit

It's always a bit of a gamble with remasters. sometimes they suck and sometimes they just get it right. This time it sucked.

        Sounds reasonable enough.

The devs basically just needed to take the original game, mod it to have widescreen fix and actually good weapons, but no, instead, they gave it the GTA Definitive Edition treatment, and it's a trainwreck.

Oh nice. Probably go take off my wishlist then, maybe the other two games I was looking forward to will be good.

Kingpin was never good. I have no clue what they were thinking when they decided to rerelease this piece of shit.

All I want out of a "remaster" is maybe the textures and models get updated just a little bit to be more like how you remembered the game which is often a bit ugly in retrospect, maybe add a new story campaign or levels to give people who already played it 100% something new to do, but mainly just make the goddamn thing work on modern machines, please. I don't care about HD upscaled shit and actually prefer the original or near original graphics. Hell, I'm super happy that Valve gave us the ability to turn off texture filtering in Half-life because that shit looks disgusting to me nowadays. I love the nice pixelated textures of old games.

their excuse is that the original source code was lost (unlikely since that french frick that owns interplay probably holds everything hostage) so they had to make a shitty compatibility layer between unity and the original game binaries. well, id tech 2/quake engine is open source. reverse engineering the original game would have been way easier to do it that way. and you could even port the reverse engineered codebase to id tech 4 if the need arises.

And nothing of value was lost, the original was shit anyway.
