If I remember correctly, they nerfed support gems in 3.17. either way, it's either direct or indirect nerfs every league.
If anyone says the game is in a good state past 3.15 on, he's coping hard and in absolute terror that the game dies. There is an army of homosexuals who came late to the game and compensated by putting in thousands of hours in a short timespan. Couple that with league rewards and the money they blew on this sinking ship. It's sunk cost fallacy to the extreme.
There's just been a sequence of lackluster patches. Last league they didn't change anything and a lot of people were hyped on big changes this league but a lot of stuff just got nerfed with no big wins elsewhere

It's actually insane how fast this fricking homosexual game fell apart. 3.13 it was the best game I'd ever played, and I could see myself playing it forever. The endless delve was really nice and fast for getting levels, so GGG should add this as replacement for players who don't want to compleave 10 acts for the 10000000000000000000000000s time

If you play ssf, you have a defeatist mindset, and do so to remove yourself from a pseudo perceived competition. You cope by saying that you are enjoying it, that you are now free to use currency, but you know deep down that using currency is a waste, and ssf is pure cuckoldry that tunnels you into meta builds and absurd hours of grinding if you want to go anything but meta. It's a mode solely for racing, streamers, and neets who want to prolong the time to not think about their lives.
You can try it out yourself, but there is nothing much to it. Other than you locking yourself out of builds and stretching the gearing up process to infinity for obvious reasons. It's a mode for races and streamers that idiots talked themselves into.
I can always switch back if i dont like. Gotten real sick of the trade experience and the game only coming down to "what is the most Ex p/h". currency and content has lost all meaning in this way. so i will just try it! 🙂

On one hand, it is very easy to play and gear up solo. On the other hand, it is a little too easy to gear up your character before the (primal) artifact grind, and with the current power level, a meta build will also complete the season journey in a single weekend.

yes but only because the world is full of casuals normal people dont need to center their life around a video game to be able to play it or enjoy it, most people want to turn on a game and have a fun experience not sit with 5 wiki tabs open trying to figure out what the frick is going on and spamming random bots and afk people to try and get the item you needs all before finally actually killing a monster 2 hours into your play session, people are only playing poe because there hadnt been really any decent arpgs in the scene since d2 or grim dawn, i expect a lot of people to leave for d4 if its even moderately decent and ggg is going to continue to help by compounding spaghetti code on their bloated mess of a game and catering changes to the upper 0.5% of players

you misunderstand, they arent catering to the poe crowd theyre catering to the upper 0.5% of the poe crowd now, the game is the simplest arpg to ever exist, the answer to every single affix and boss is just do enough damage to 1hit or skip the mechanics so you dont run into a bug or crash or have to bother with it, the hardcore part is making getting to that amount of damage is needlessly convoluted almost intentionally catering towards driving the majority of the poe audience to streamers and youtubers to be spoonfed, since the actual crafting systems arent actually any fun to use or interact with
I agree that the speedmeta is garbage but I don't think nerfing defences etc is catering to the top playerbase since most of them play ssfhc.

the illusion of choice, realistically most of these are spoiler mods that exist to prevent you from getting flat life, life %,(or the es variants) resists, spell suppression, ailment avoidance congrats your gear piece is always the same as it has ever been and will always be since these are required mods to make the piece viable in the first place, the other mods are full of garbage that you either accept or risk ruining the piece with an annul or go through some artistically expensive process to target remove it that would be cheaper to buy something more perfect off someone else and on the extreme offchance you have all the required mods and have a slot or two youre basically putting +gems or some flat stat like str/int/dex, theres literally no gear variety

There should be more ways to craft for specific kind of gear but the process itself is totally fine since the whole point of the game is grind for better gear. Getting to the end goal faster isn't always better, see D3 for example. It's gotten to the point where you can get to the end and get bored of it after couple days into a new "season"

D3's only problem is the lack of variety in the endgame content, rifts are boring as shit, though when the game release the concept of arpg endgame was pretty foreign and they intended to basically just release the same as d2 with just doing difficulties and farming random acts, if d4 can maintain the gameplay feel of d3 while adding much more variety of things to do at endgame, id see no reason to play poe especially since theyve shown playing with 6 and 8 players which is basically impossible in modern poe meta and even if it was possible i doubt the client would be able to handle it without crashing the game or the map and thats as someone whos spent a little over $20k on poe, i really wish poe was good but it feels like the original poe was a solid starting point that Chris Wilson lucked his way into but convinced himself that he got their because of his 'vision' for the game and now he cant stop making shitty leagues and changes because he thinks he has some genius mind that the players just dont understand

Honestly the thing holding energy blade back is the 50% less maximum energy shield. If they tweaked that at all, AT ALL, the gem itself becomes viable. Especially for 2h which is what I rolled with.
That stat tree is basically what i used for my energy blade throughout sentinel.

So long as energy blade has that moronic 50% less energy shield modifier, you're never going to be tanky enough to use it with a regular tree.
Which is a real shame, I had fun using it and Static Strike before I had to go full autismo for the stat stacking tree to minmax ES to survivable levels.

I don't mind the nerfs to the top end as much as I hate them gutting any way to scale a build "cheap". You could get an archmage/agnostic character going for like 10c back in the day and just chill all the way to red maps while getting incremental upgrades along the way. Same with some low-investment minion builds.
Now, on pretty much any build, you hit this power valley somewhere around yellow maps where your character is not strong enough to progress to higher tiers, but the only way to become stronger is to just grind lower tier maps and hope you get lucky enough to drop something expensive. It becomes a literal slot machine at that point and drains most of the enjoyment I can derive from the game normally.

I had 650 hours playtime in PoE, took a 3 year break (2019-2022), and tried playing again recently.
Holy frick what a nightmare of a game it is to get into. Even with 650 hours in the past, everything was a confusing mess, I can only imagine how it is for new players. I decided frick this and quit.
Several hundred currencies and mechanics that are never explained, it's ridiculous.
I think PoE would be a thousand times more appealing to new/returning players if they used, of all things, the system Hearthstone uses.
Have the main core gameplay, and the previous few leagues worth of mechanics added on. Like Hearthstone has Standard (the most recent expansions + the core set of cards) and Wild (fricking everything).
PoE has dozens of league mechanics all stacked up together, it feels like a bloated mess.
Tradelets will literally always complain because they'll never see an even easier and less involved trading system in the patch notes.
Changes that they announce more than a week before the league reveal are changes that they want your feedback to. If you have problems with not getting half of your spell suppression from equipping two items or minions becoming more expensive you should tell GGG.
To me these changes are so inoffensive. Nerfs to broken shit like minion explosions, spell suppression on items and brittle, and buffs to shit that was just sitting there unused like Trickster, MoM, Wind Dancer, that Pathfinder node etc.
people not making it to red maps and endgame bosses isnt a difficulty issue, its how insanely boring the required campaign and labs are and all the garbage maps leading up to it, its fricking boring as shit and people burn out when they finally realize wait this is the same reason i stopped last league i could be doing literally anything else with my time

By taking a few mana reservation nodes if I'm playing a character that absolutely needs to use mana or needs more than Determination and Grace
To fit in Defiance Banner without Inspirational for example you'd only need either Armor Mastery, Evasion Mastery, or two points allocated into mana reservation efficiency

I have number of solid low investment builds. What happened when I decided to give this shitty clicker another chance this league, was that I took one such build, leveled to maps without any issues and the realized there are new rare mods that hard disable expensive build I was planning to make later, for which I started in first place. Mods on usual rares that are just present everywhere. So I closed game and decided to look what's going on at the internet, and turns out I was lucky to pick build that was among least impacted, and some other shit is outright unplayable.
Later turn out that mod wasn't exactly hard disabling, it just looked like it was because of game's quality graphic design and visual clarity, but I stopped caring by then.
b***h I am capable of farming/crafting more mirrors of total currency in single league than you will ever see over your entire history of playing this, assuming I bother. It just stopped being worth my time. Are you one of buttboys jerking off to "muh challenge" regarding same content every league?

They've talked about this before. They gradually buff underused skills over several patches until they reach the point where someone tries them and finds out they have the new Lightning Strike. Sometimes they do big sweeping revision of a bunch of skills and just give them 40% more damage, but they're always doing these background balance tweaks.

The only additional spending is regret orbs for under 1ex in total because these are cheap near league start. Time advantage gained this way pays for much more.

Price of core items may change drastically over a span of just few days. Sooner you have your options to swipe whatever you want for cheap, sooner it starts turning profits.
Effective start on top of economy is a huge advantage. If you got some israeliteing running asap, you get additional profits at the expense of those who didn't, making you progress even faster. If you didn't, someone else is profited of your tards, and you end up with less resources, which results in getting what you want taking longer. Those are supposed to be basic things, not getting them is probably what playing meme modes gets you.

Really common drops not worth planning around, moron. Real drops are some well-rolled max res shield, a good wand, enough decent items with mana rolls to do MoM, a rarer unique. Cospri's doesn't require anything to make a build around it and Shavronne's is the build enabler, the final piece of the puzzle to tons of builds.

I also forgot to mention just how fun proper juicing is. 5 orbs, particular sextant mods, scarabs, most expensive zana mods, etc. Once you try it generic mapping will feel like shit forever afterwards. But even assuming you manage to make build for that in SSF, which is unlikely, like frick you can run that on self-found currency.

Personally, I play once a year, get to yellow, have a general idea of the build and quit right when I need to min-max. I'd love to do red and then some, but the fact I gotta waste time going through the acts EACH league is annoying.
D3 did it right with still staying unlocked each season. PoE should make it where white maps are 1-40, yellow 40-60 and red 60+ or based around stat/resist recommendations. Anything to let me bypass replaying acts.
I have a question for people who play PoE casually.
Did you guys know that GGG had a race that ran every single day for almost 9 years for the fastest Lab completion, and literally every single day that the race existed it was won by one single guy who cheated, took the unique item that could only be gotten by winning the race, and sold it on RMT sites.
Every single day. For the entire life of the game. And GGG knew about it and never did anything other than ending the race last year.
Bring me back to the old days when there was one build(Leap slam marauder) and 2 acts. I want to spend hours killing skeletons in the graveyard to get to 20% resistances and sell 2 chromatic orbs for an exalt.
Diablo was made for SSF
Diablo 2 was made for SSF with occasional local trading with people you naturally run into, but tradeBlack folk abused the system with third-party sites and made the game easy for themselves.
PoE was the same as Diablo 2, powergaming MMO tradeBlack folk once again ruined it for everyone so they made SSF to bring back the closest thing to how the game is meant to be played.

I was having fun with uniques so I had a whispering ice build that crashed the server and then made a movement speed nghamus flame cyclone build focused on movement speed. This league I have a strength stacking build because I wanted to play a berserker marauder.

I was honestly suprised they didn't revert armor and evasion with this patch. But instead they took away the auras which were essential for defense.

A new build is not using the same setup but with less power and more pressure by spending 20 ex more on an item to fill the gaps GGG created.
That your old standard characters aren't even working anymore, and with not working I mean the fricking character is red and can't attack because auras don't fit or your resistances are fricked every 3-6 months is proof enough how unstable these designers are.
Whatever feels good to you. Jumping into the deep end and forever thinking only the top 5 builds are worth playing like the people in these threads isn't worth it.
This game heavily disincentivizes experimentation and as you push up, you'll better understand that. For now, just enjoy whatever you're doing. It's more fun that way.
Most players quit before Act 5, so you're at least better than the average new user.
Without checking which builds are strong beforehand you really can't know, there's so many different interactions you have to be aware of. The acts are pretty easy and you can get carried by good items.

Yeah there are extreme unkillable builds with zero damage. Those are the exception. Majority of HC builds balance offense and defense. Enough to survive long enough to kill.

Squishy DPS builds are the exception in HC. Look at poe.ninja. Vast majority is builds that are tanky but still deal decent damage.

I don't think it's necessary to play HC to run HC builds. I'm a softcore player but I am almost willing to give up entirely on a build if I feel squishy in maps. I have to actively pick HC builds and try my absolute hardest not to die or the build will feel like shit to me.

Nobody plays pedalcore anymore except streamers, for like 5 years. Poe is a very boring game to watch on stream, the only kind of entertainment this can provide is when clown fricks up pressing the pedal, dies and starts screaming. GGG figured it out and designed the game so that clown dies a lot, to produce more interesting streams for more advertising. Today even perfect masters of pedal die all the time. Hence it's dead except clowns. In fact trade is so fricking dead, everyone just plays SSF because there is no difference. Ninja indexes more people in SSF than in trade.

It's a mode solely for racing, streamers, and neets who want to prolong the time to not think about their lives.

On one hand, it is very easy to play and gear up solo. On the other hand, it is a little too easy to gear up your character before the (primal) artifact grind, and with the current power level, a meta build will also complete the season journey in a single weekend.

the illusion of choice, realistically most of these are spoiler mods that exist to prevent you from getting flat life, life %,(or the es variants) resists, spell suppression, ailment avoidance congrats your gear piece is always the same as it has ever been and will always be since these are required mods to make the piece viable in the first place, the other mods are full of garbage that you either accept or risk ruining the piece with an annul or go through some artistically expensive process to target remove it that would be cheaper to buy something more perfect off someone else and on the extreme offchance you have all the required mods and have a slot or two youre basically putting +gems or some flat stat like str/int/dex, theres literally no gear variety

There should be more ways to craft for specific kind of gear but the process itself is totally fine since the whole point of the game is grind for better gear. Getting to the end goal faster isn't always better, see D3 for example. It's gotten to the point where you can get to the end and get bored of it after couple days into a new "season"
D3's only problem is the lack of variety in the endgame content, rifts are boring as shit, though when the game release the concept of arpg endgame was pretty foreign and they intended to basically just release the same as d2 with just doing difficulties and farming random acts, if d4 can maintain the gameplay feel of d3 while adding much more variety of things to do at endgame, id see no reason to play poe especially since theyve shown playing with 6 and 8 players which is basically impossible in modern poe meta and even if it was possible i doubt the client would be able to handle it without crashing the game or the map and thats as someone whos spent a little over $20k on poe, i really wish poe was good but it feels like the original poe was a solid starting point that Chris Wilson lucked his way into but convinced himself that he got their because of his 'vision' for the game and now he cant stop making shitty leagues and changes because he thinks he has some genius mind that the players just dont understand

Honestly the thing holding energy blade back is the 50% less maximum energy shield. If they tweaked that at all, AT ALL, the gem itself becomes viable. Especially for 2h which is what I rolled with.
That stat tree is basically what i used for my energy blade throughout sentinel.

I don't mind the nerfs to the top end as much as I hate them gutting any way to scale a build "cheap". You could get an archmage/agnostic character going for like 10c back in the day and just chill all the way to red maps while getting incremental upgrades along the way. Same with some low-investment minion builds.
Now, on pretty much any build, you hit this power valley somewhere around yellow maps where your character is not strong enough to progress to higher tiers, but the only way to become stronger is to just grind lower tier maps and hope you get lucky enough to drop something expensive. It becomes a literal slot machine at that point and drains most of the enjoyment I can derive from the game normally.
Nerfs are gay in any singleplayer setting literally no reason to do it unless you hate players.

I think PoE would be a thousand times more appealing to new/returning players if they used, of all things, the system Hearthstone uses.
Have the main core gameplay, and the previous few leagues worth of mechanics added on. Like Hearthstone has Standard (the most recent expansions + the core set of cards) and Wild (fricking everything).
PoE has dozens of league mechanics all stacked up together, it feels like a bloated mess.

To me these changes are so inoffensive. Nerfs to broken shit like minion explosions, spell suppression on items and brittle, and buffs to shit that was just sitting there unused like Trickster, MoM, Wind Dancer, that Pathfinder node etc.

By taking a few mana reservation nodes if I'm playing a character that absolutely needs to use mana or needs more than Determination and Grace
To fit in Defiance Banner without Inspirational for example you'd only need either Armor Mastery, Evasion Mastery, or two points allocated into mana reservation efficiency

I have number of solid low investment builds. What happened when I decided to give this shitty clicker another chance this league, was that I took one such build, leveled to maps without any issues and the realized there are new rare mods that hard disable expensive build I was planning to make later, for which I started in first place. Mods on usual rares that are just present everywhere. So I closed game and decided to look what's going on at the internet, and turns out I was lucky to pick build that was among least impacted, and some other shit is outright unplayable.
Later turn out that mod wasn't exactly hard disabling, it just looked like it was because of game's quality graphic design and visual clarity, but I stopped caring by then.

They've talked about this before. They gradually buff underused skills over several patches until they reach the point where someone tries them and finds out they have the new Lightning Strike. PoE has one outstanding aspect, depth and width of character building. Remove that, and nothing will be left, it will be a shitty game, offering no entertaining experience, not worthy of anyone's time. SSF removes 95% of that part. The only additional spending is regret orbs for under 1ex in total because these are cheap near league start. Time advantage gained this way pays for much more.

Price of core items may change drastically over a span of just few days. Sooner you have your options to swipe whatever you want for cheap, sooner it starts turning profits.
Effective start on top of economy is a huge advantage. If you got some israeliteing running asap, you get additional profits at the expense of those who didn't, making you progress even faster. If you didn't, someone else is profited of your tards, and you end up with less resources, which results in getting what you want taking longer. Time is another part. I'd say this game worth about 3 weeks of time per good league, 4 weeks tops, more only if in rare case if you found some really good activity, but it generally gets boring before. So if it requires more time to do what I want, I will simply not play it at all. Cospri's doesn't require anything to make a build around it and Shavronne's is the build enabler, the final piece of the puzzle to tons of builds.

Personally, I play once a year, get to yellow, have a general idea of the build and quit right when I need to min-max. I'd love to do red and then some, but the fact I gotta waste time going through the acts EACH league is annoying.
D3 did it right with still staying unlocked each season. PoE should make it where white maps are 1-40, yellow 40-60 and red 60+ or based around stat/resist recommendations. Anything to let me bypass replaying acts.

This game heavily disincentivizes experimentation and as you push up, you'll better understand that. For now, just enjoy whatever you're doing. It's more fun that way.
Most players quit before Act 5, so you're at least better than the average new user.
Without checking which builds are strong beforehand you really can't know, there's so many different interactions you have to be aware of. The acts are pretty easy and you can get carried by good items.

Yeah there are extreme unkillable builds with zero damage. Those are the exception. Majority of HC builds balance offense and defense. Enough to survive long enough to kill.
the majority of hc builds are either builds where you cannot die or builds where you can clear the screen in half a second like contagion/ed, or both as we saw with slams.
Clear the screen before you die is a softcore thing. Hardcore builds do clear the screen slightly slower but it's okay if you frick up.

Neigh unkillable by what content exactly? I didn't even play last few leagues when they added new frick you rares and new tier of uber uber bosses, but even before there was shit that could easily clap you even if you're capable of staying afk in 99% of game's content.
you will obviously die the super endgame bosses if you aren't paying attention and thats what the majority of hc players die to that isn't packet loss, but for the other 99% of the game unless you don't read map modifiers you are fine.

Squishy DPS builds are the exception in HC. Look at poe.ninja. Vast majority is builds that are tanky but still deal decent damage.
Righteous Fire, Explosive Arrow, Fire Trap, Exsanguinate, Detonate Dead, Seismic Trap
alkaizer is a good example of someone who just builds for defense and almost nothing else. the dude's characters consistently survives beams and slams from bosses.
I don't think it's necessary to play HC to run HC builds. I'm a softcore player but I am almost willing to give up entirely on a build if I feel squishy in maps. I have to actively pick HC builds and try my absolute hardest not to die or the build will feel like shit to me.

Nobody plays pedalcore anymore except streamers, for like 5 years. Poe is a very boring game to watch on stream, the only kind of entertainment this can provide is when clown fricks up pressing the pedal, dies and starts screaming. GGG figured it out and designed the game so that clown dies a lot, to produce more interesting streams for more advertising. Today even perfect masters of pedal die all the time. Hence it's dead except clowns. In fact trade is so fricking dead, everyone just plays SSF because there is no difference. Ninja indexes more people in SSF than in trade.
I think people that play HC just play SSF anyway. They want the challenge and just go all the way. The economy is pretty dead on HC trade

It's not actually. The damage mod was just doubled, which moves it from 150% to 200%, only a 33% buff. And there's even a nerf disguised as a buff in that manifesto.

It's usable, but Slams are in such a garbage state that if they doubled it again, Tawhoa would be barely usable (then it's on par with Intimidating Cry + Fist of War... except only once every 2 seconds instead of 1 like Fist of War.
