what causes the emulator to render those seams in a static image?

      Anonymous

It's a shitty jpg in the wrong aspect ratio to begin with, but everything is polygon based on N64. Every text overlay is made up of several small polyong planes with alpha textures, some games even separate the backgrounds into various tiles. This works well up to 480p, but gets a little fuzzy when you scale it up to HD. To mitigate scaling artefacts like these you need one of the more accurate graphic plugins like Angry Lion.

      Anonymous

The N64 has limited texture memory, and larger images are composed of multiple squares of the largest texture each square polygon can store/display.

Improper emulation will cause the edges of these tiles to be visible, one of the most notable examples is the character select screen in Mario Kart 64, where each portrait has a 2x2 tile layout to produce a full sized image.
This seam issue does not exist on original hardware.

This game would have caused an uproar if the people who played it were the same ones who paid for it.
We loved it because our parents bought it, but we'd never shell out $70 of our own money for what amounts to a battle pack.

I did using gift money and I was pretty satisfied. Eventually sold all my N64 stuff and when I restarted that part of my collection later I grabbed every Pokemon game I could, complete with inserts and manuals. Didn't care about prices then or now because it's all kino.

No way. I’d rather have the GB games over Stadium than vice versa. Stadium purposely sand bags you by putting moron tier move sets on the rental Pokémon.

    Comfy as frick.

I'll tell you what's shit about these. The Poke Cup
The Poke Cup, said to be a lvl 50-55 cup. It makes you think "well let me just train my Pokemon to level 55 for maximum efficiency".
Well you're fricked if you do it. Because you see, it's not, in fact, a lvl 50-55 cup. It's a level 50-52 cup, that lets you use a couple 55s for some reason. That is because there's a fine print rule that says the combined level of your 3 chosen Pokemon cannot exceed 155, meaning at best you can take a Lvl 51, 52 and 52 and if your pokes are all at 55, tough luck kid. If this is not the most asinine shit ever, I don't know what is.

I'd love to know what that blue text says.
Like, I know it's just there to add to the sci-fi computer program aesthetic, but it's clearly made up of real words.
      >Use the Pokemon ___ ___ Pokemon data including the ___ [...]
Probably just some nonsense copied from promotional material, but it also might not be.

I saw this same kind of thing on one of the Gameboy Player borders too, and I just find it super interesting. Too small to be intended to be read, but obviously real text.

Use the Pokedex to store Pokemon data including the place where Pokemon can be found.
????(More) information displaying a Pokemon's height, weight, and location.
When only a pokemon's ????(name?) is displayed, there is no data available.

It's basically a toy, more than a game. It lets you view your Pokemon team in 3D, which was cool for about ten minutes.
The rest of the game is kind of bolted on, to justify the game existing.
    >kids like mini games, yeah? Put some mini games in

Shame the GB thing didn't play every GB game, because then it would have been worth shelling out for a cartridge, which I never did.

      >Shame the GB thing didn't play every GB game
It was too slow for that. Unlike the Super Game Boy (which had a full Game Boy CPU in the cart), the Transfer Pak basically just lets the N64 stream ROM/RAM from the Game Boy cart so it can be emulated. This takes about a full minute for a 2MB cart. The Stadium games embed the Pokemon Game Boy ROMs in the N64 cart to make it faster.
If it weren't for the load times, they coulda made a product out of it.

Looked up the end of Stadium 2, turns out the last fight is nothing personnel team of Lvl100s. I don't have it in me, and what you get for beating them is honestly really bad. Imagine if you got Mew or Celebi for beating the game, now that would be epic
Had my fun with it, I recommend playing it for the nostalgia but maybe don't bother beating it cause it sounds like a major pain in the ass for really bad rewards

It's pretty shit compared to Stadium 1, which have you any Pokemon you'd need to compete the dex except for version exclusives. Starters, fossils, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee, and Eevee. A move relearner is novel for the time, but could've been put elsewhere.

I'm playing gen 1 and 2 gameboy games right now, is the only way to interact with the stadium games to buy a N64 and the transfer pak? is it possible to play stadium using emulator gameboy saves on project 64 or something and then trade the rewards to my regular cartridge?

to clarify, I could probably beat the game using rentals but I would really enjoy using my teams and getting the surfing pikachu and the earthquake gligar mostly.

Officially the Transfer Pak is the only way.
But, yes. You can very easily load up a Game Boy save in any N64 emulator worth using. Unless you plan on using the GB Tower, there are no issues.

No, it was its own game, and there was supposed to be a N64 DD expansion that added the remaining Pokemon, and that eventually morphed into Pokemon Stadium 2 (which we just got as Pokemon Stadium).
