Dunno when it got good, I didn't try it until now. My point was it's not bad, you're getting hung up on the wrong part of the sentence.

Do you want a slightly modernised version of Space Age "Spore", filled with content islands and the shittiest multiplayer ever conceived?
Then sure, it's "Not even bad now".
If you want a good game, then No Man's Sky is... not that.

I don't think you understand what content island means. Content islands are self-contained, all the shit added here builds on the core gameplay, they're expansions, not islands.

they added the stuff they said would be there, but never fixed the fact that the core gameplay loop is shit

What do you mean? They completely changed the core gameplay loop. It used to be just stopping on each planet to refuel while you were going towards the core, now it's building your base and building up a network of portals and outposts around the universe you can travel to and from to get more shit for expanding your base and collection of ships and tools.

A decade after release and it's now an aggressively mid RUST clone.
Lmao, NMS Shills will literally use anything to justify buying a busted game so many years ago.

      >Literally nobody talking about it.
      >I mention it
      >Wow NMS shills will iterally use anything to justify
I just mentioned it once, the frick do you want you schizo? There's like 40 Hogwarts legacy threads up this moment. But I'm a shill? Suck my dick homosexual.

Maybe it fricking shouldn't have been bad at launch. Just a thought.

I mean if we're being legit it had no business getting better, it improving just made it possible for other companies to get away with releasing unfinished garbage by promising people to "no man's sky it" at some point later. Literally the only reason Anthem sold as many copies as it did.

Recent update made grinding for elements, upgrades, and technologies pointless even though every mechanic in the game is built for that purpose. Its one and only appeal was endless grind autism, and now it has zero appeal.

What do you even do in this game? Every clip I see is either flying around, gathering things or building your house that looks like hamster tubes. Is there combat now? Is there real multiplayer now?

Compare the combat to another game so I know what it feels like. Fallout?

There's three storylines right now. There's one following a group of settlers, there's another following the path of "the atlas" and basically finding out about the lore of the universe and there's another about trying to get in contact with a lost traveler. There's also hidden sidequest missions you can run into like an underwater and pirate settlements and a friendly version of sentinels, the main antagonist of the game those are added for updates and shit.
There's combat against robotic species, there is real multiplayer now and you can turn on friendly fire and have PVP too if you want. Every few weeks they do expeditions, which is like a fresh save where everyone starts on a new curated destination and follows a storyline exclusive to the expeditions, it sometimes introduces new mechanics (though mostly it's reruns from what I can tell, I've only been playing for a month so I've yet to see a new expedition)
The combat is, yeah, kind of like fallout but without vats. They expanded the weapon system so you can have different guns now like lasers, shotguns, grenade launchers, etc... but you don't get a new weapon all the time, rather they're mods you install on any weapon and then you can collect RNG mods in a couple different ways to augment those weapon mods further for higher damage, cooldown, etc...
I'd say the point now is kind of to find a perfect planet, plop down a base, but a warp portal in it, then go to other planets with specific resources, build semi-automated mining rigs and funnel the wealth to your main base, it's kind of like factorio-lite but spanning a bunch of planets.

        >You can also do a WoW Classic content island where everyone starts again at the same time. I love posting my high scores on social media!
        >The combat system is... shit. They have a few new weapons now, but not many and they don't add them very often.

          Mald and seethe.

I've played the game and he's right: With few exceptions, the overwhelming majority of all new content has functioned as a content island. Sure, you can incorporate bits of it into the new game, but NMS is more side-show themepark than, even, Warframe.

You find a cool ship, you upgrade said ship.
You find a shit freighter you search for a cooler one.
      You find a better multitool.
You find a secondary multitool for killing
You find a tertiary multitool for AOE
You decide to build a base, you search for a nice planet.
There's plenty to do, its all VERY surface level of interesting.
But it's a cool trip getting your setup and being done with it.
There's a story which is not the worst, I felt it was interesting enough to see it thru the end.
Right now I'm doing a "poor-man build" where I only use C-class upgrades and ships.
It's fun to be flying around on a shitbox shuttle rather than a S-Class fully kitted out fighter.
I do wish the game was less surface level and was actually interesting, but hey, this is what we have. There's no real substitute to it, unless you wanna play 5 different games and pretend it's all connected.

      >You have infinite inventory
No you don't, what the frick?

I'm not in the mood to open the game and take a picture, but it's really hard to use 120 inventory slots in your exosuit... AND I have 2 full rows of "useless items" that I keep around in case I want to craft something.

        >I'm not in the mood to open the game and take a picture,
        >Also it's 120 slots
Why would you need to take a picture when you just admitted it's not infinite?
But granted, if you stop everything in its tracks to dig up a ship that can be sold for at least 3 million units, and then buy or farm out 60 jumps worth of dark matter, and then jump, get a slot at a station, summon the anomaly, get a slot at the anomaly, rinse and repeat for two hours, sure, you'll have 120 slots.
In survival all slots cap off at 250 and crafting isn't free so maybe if you weren't playing the b***h godmode you wouldn't find the slots so... "unlimited".

Well, the last update made it shit again.
Ever since the update I haven't used my ship inventory once. You have infinite inventory, the game feels like a shitty skyrim mod where you remove the weight from everything.
Zero thought on the consequences of that change, as if you need any further proof that Hello Games don't know what they're doing.

      >You're still experiencing the gist of the game within 5 minutes of getting away from the atrocious tutorial planet.
You don't even run into your first freighter until 3 hours in.
The living ships quest costs you 3k squicksilver which takes a couple days if you do just the daily quests or 4-5 hours if you're grinding it from anomalies.
Half the systems don't unlock until you're at least two or three warp jumps in.
The frick are you talking about?

I hear the combat sucks so I never tried it even though it looks like the comfiest game ever created. Space shootan and mech shootan and seeing crazy creatures sounds so nice.

The combat is extremely bleh. There's like five different weapon types, each one with its own positives and negatives, and each one's positive is mild enough not to affect your decisions and each negative is just annoying enough to make you feel like this is the weapon you DON'T want. So at the end the combat starts with you're deciding which gun you dislike the least, rather than which one you like the most.
