But Snoys are mean so therefore Microsoft are amazing.

I actually agree with everything you said anon, but people here hate Snoy so much they'll excuse all the real shit Microsoft does.
Microsoft have been evil since before the release of 95 even, Bill Gates fricked over so many hundreds of people before even finishing his first piece of software as Microsoft

Both are shit, anon, corporations aren't your friends. Both Sony and Microsoft have paid to have exclusives (temporary or otherwise), Microsoft introduced paid online subscription into the mainstream, Sony had shit like asking for money when players from other consoles played with playstation owners (which is why you saw cross play games not working with playstation) as well as the moronic censorship shit.

Doesn't mean I want Microsoft to be the Disney of gaming, and I certainly don't want the deal to go through, but it has nothing to do with them being more or less evil than Sony, because they are all shit in their own way.

The Tobacco Products Directive / Regulations.

It arbitrarily restricts e-cigarettes to a 2ml capacity of liquid and restricts nicotine-containing e-liquids to 10ml bottles. This generates huge quantities of additional plastic waste, and causes users to have to refill their devices far more frequently than they did before the regulations came into force.

E-cigarettes are not tobacco products. They contain no tobacco, and there is no evidence that they cause clinically significant harm to users.

Actually, it's because of agricultural subsidies to corn farmers, which are a strategic choice, not an economic one. It costs the US taxpayer tens of billions of dollars to prop up corn farmers, and the excess corn has to be used for something, hence the replacement of cane/beet sugar with HFCS.

          Anonymous

It also helps that HFCS can have similar effects on people the same way cocaine and nicotine have.

There's plenty of things where the EU will outright block/ban things that the US won't follow. A big thing is the whole GDPR debacle for example. Some US news sites don't want to follow the EU rules surrounding personal data collection, so the EU told them that they have to block/ban everyone from EU then.

That's why those "We love our European community, but sadly this content is not available to you" things happen on a lot of US news platforms.

Reminder they also killed Rare, introduced paid online to online console gaming, want to strip all ownership away from the consumer by making everything digital-only on Xcloud and Gamepass, and all off their exclusives are mtx-riddled pay-to-win garbage like Sea of Thieves, Gears4&5, and Halo 5.

It's also funny that some of you think buying Bethesda is going to save them. Bethesda hasn't made a good game since Skyrim, the rest of their games can't even hit metacritic scores of 80. Let's not also forget they let Bethesda put the Horse Amour DLC on the 360 marketplace back in 2007. If they hadn't done that, microtranstations and other bullshit greedy DLC practices wouldn't even be a thing today.

Microsoft is the most greedy, anti-consumer, monopolistic, disgusting company there is. Stop defending their shit, Ganker.

With the amount of kvetching Snoy has been doing over "i-if Microdick takes Carlos Poopy away from us our business won't survive!" it's pretty obvious that Snoy as a console manufacturer is coming to an end, ask yourself this, if what Snoy is saying is true then that means that the moment they lose their (singular) 3rd party cash cow their part of the console market will be wiped out with it. This is something that is guarnateed to happend sometime in the future, it might not be in a while but sooner or later that series is going to stop being profitable just like every other "oldschool" vidya series before it

I don't mind stuff like buying Zenimax, 7.5b is in the realm for Sony to compete in but still would be hard for them to do a purchase that big. 70billion is impossible for Sony to compete against, and Microsoft could buy EA in 2 years and STILL wouldn't be the market leader. Its a dangerous path to just let a trillion dollar company use funds from other endeavors to bully smaller companies in a space they are only losing in due to personal frick ups.

see how much CP2077 sold and what the game ended up being the first year of release, the amount of sales says nothing about the quality of a game, only that it sells a lot and that the advertising worked well

          >Msdos
DOS wasn't initially made by Microsoft, they bought it.
          >Solitaire
Sure, solitaire is fine but are we going to pretend it's some sort of great achievement? Originally made by an intern even
          >Pinball
Wasn't made by Microsoft, space cadet was part of a game developed by cinematronics and published by maxis (yeah the Sims guys). Microsoft just paid to have it included with windows.
          >Aoe
Age of empires was published by Microsoft, saying it's thanks to them is puke inducing when Microsoft acquiring the game studio gave us age of empires iii.
          >X360
Fine console after they sorted RROD. Paid online subscription bullshit.
          >X360 on PC
Garbage, xinput has held back support for controller functionality, only allowing what the xpad supports so you have to do gymnastics to get gyroscope working on PC for example
          >Ms paint
Would be dead if people didn't screech
          >Visual studio
          Garbage
          >Msn
          Dead

i know this is a little complicated for gamer brains, but companies are legal entities so they don't actually exist outside the country they are registered in. to sell products directly in another country, they have to register a local branch which is that company's legal representative. to operate in the UK for example, everything from ms is legally assigned to their HQ in Reading, England. likewise for Activision Blizzard. so the UK has to approve a merger of the two UK companies belonging to ms and ab. otherwise they cannot merge in the UK, and if they merge outside of the UK despite being blocked there, then the UK can take punitive measures against their local offices.

strictly speaking, the companies could proceed with the merger if they were willing to risk losing their presence in the UK. this is technically true of every country where they do business, but most countries don't have the financial relevance to stop a foreign merger, which is why the only real antitrust authorities are the US, Japan, UK, and the EU collective. technically china has a regulator too, but most issues like this are preempted by the fact that foreign companies are already tightly regulated, so foreign mergers tend to be rubber-stamped because china has an alternate means of controlling the result.

this worries me, i dont care about ms buying activision because the only one of their games i care about is crash bandicoot but if they get rejected from buying such a huge company they could just gobble up much smaller companies which i actually care about like capcom or fromsoft and ms WILL ruin those companies. apart from forza they simply can not produce any good games. they bought halo, soon as they had to make the games themselves with their own manufactured internal team they ruined it, same with gears. ms is gaming cancer.

Literally no one in this thread has pointed out that this is a normal process. The EU is going to put out an "objection document" before MS can offer concessions to redress their objections, which they were already planning on doing with things like the 10 year COD deal. This is not the same thing as the FTC suing to block the deal entirely.

Why in the frick do other countries get a say in American business?

Same reason why America tries to insert themselves into everything else worldwide.

The EU is a bigger market than the US so if they want to sell their products and make money in the EU they have to comply to EU rules.

It's global business, you fricking cuck. Euro money is invested in both ActiBlizz and Microsoft. You should be celebrating anything that prevents monopolisation and creates competition; it makes for better video games.

Did the gajillion dollar acquisition guarantee more money to Activision than sells on PS system, even over 10 years? I have to imagine a lot more morons buy the yearly CoD on PS than Xbox simply because more people have PS systems.
And I want to imagine MW2 did as well as it did because it is a remake or something or just shares the same name as the series' darling.

How come whenever something like this happens that helps prevent a monopoly or tries to mitigate something that's a danger to children like loot boxes etc it's always Europe putting their foot down? Why does no other country or continent care about video games and the people who play them?

Too lucrative to give a frick about. Americans will just default to either vidya bad or parents should be responsible for their children. Chinese just want to consoom. Japanese will say games are subarashii and for minna no ikigai.
Basically Europe is the only region where the government has too much control over corpos and can reign them in. Everywhere else the government bends to corpos. Sadly no 50/50 balance exists.

How is this deal anti consumer?
Is sony admitting they can't develop good games?
