I spent the entire fight slap the monster's ass

      >the summon
i never use that; it feels like cheating

        Anonymous

        Using game mechanics isn't cheating.
There are many ways to make the games more challenging. Not using summons is one of them.
It's like saying it's cheating if you don't beat the game level 1 no hits.

          Anonymous

nta but he said it feels like cheating not that it is cheating, which is about right. The issue with summons in these games is that they are basically a skip button, you're not really engaging with the boss moveset itself and getting in the flow since the summon fricks with its aggro AI. It's different from other self imposed challenges because you're basically avoiding the content the devs worked on.

Anyway summons are fine if these bosses aren't your thing but at the same time they're like half the content of these types of games, what else is even enjoyable about it

Not playing SL1 no hit feels like cheating because you're not playing in the most challenging way possible git gud honestly

You're moronic. If you summoned you skipped the fight. Playing without summons is not a "challenge run", it's just playing the game normally. If you used summons, it's because you wanted to skip a fight.

I give it a good long try sans summon, but I refuse to beat my head against a wall just to keep bragging rights when I have no one to brag to but myself and Ganker. Summons to make most of the bosses trivial tho, some are overly hard with no summon and overly easy with a summon.

a boss in metroid prime echoes. I never beat him when I was a kid, I think I might have when I replayed the game as an adult over a decade ago but I remember having so much trouble with it and I could just not get past it.

it was in the corrupt area and I think it morphed into a ball or something I can't remember what it was called, anyone know what I'm talking about? The thing that made it hard was you took damage the entire time fighting him even when he wasn't attacking because of the corruption.

Boost Guardian, a notorious filter in Prime 2, along with the Alpha Blogg.

Hall of the Gods in general in HK. I'm not proud of it, but I did the invincibility glitch to beat it for the trophies (where you drop while opening / closing the map into water, then crystal dash and teleport at the same time)
I tried many times, I got past the first one with the easier bosses, struggled a lot with the second but beat it as well. Then the third one filtered me hard, I couldn't do it, and seeing what was after that with the full pantheon where you do all 3 in a row I noped the frick out and just did the glitch to beat it.
The fact that after that you have to do ANOTHER ONE with absolute radiance is fricking insane, I could never in a million years beat that. I honestly don't know how anyone can. HK in general requires god-like reaction time and mine just isn't good enough.

Also, I just hate how HK has that system where if you touch an enemy you take damage, it's such bullshit and just bad design in general especially for those bosses that do 2 hits of damage per strike. There's just not enough health in the game or ability to heal for that bullshit.

easily the best non-Fromsoft souls-like game on the market, and it's not close. The fact that it was the devs' first time making a souls-like is even crazier. The story and OST were both top notch as well.

I think they announced the DLC was progressing smoothly as of a few months ago. Not sure if there's been any updates since then.

yep, same thing happened with Elden Ring if I recall. They gave the minibosses way less health and made them stagger much easier. Also made bosses not use their big attacks as often. King of Puppets in particular was nerfed pretty heavily

This is the exact moment I quit Elden Ring. The boss before (he was the first boss but had a different name for lore reasons) kicked my ass over and over again. And after finally beating him, like 35 minutes later I'm asked to fight another boss and it's design is a train wreck and its hit boxes are bullshit. I didn't want to get good. I wanted my time back. Frick fire giant.

The first time I played sekiro it didn’t click. I finished it but I didn’t love it. The second time something clicked, and holy shit it became my favourite souls game. Never had a game polarize me so much over two playthroughs, and the second one was like 3 years later.

this entire game filtered me. I soloed every modern from game until this thing, then I was mindbroken and I couldn't even get past the first few hours of elden ring.

Sekiro is neat in the way that it has to click for you and then it all just works. When I played it for the first time I played it like Dark Souls with stealth before Genichiro, who as likely intended filtered me and then I went back to the tutorial guy by the shrine and actually learned how to play the game and beat him within a few tries.

This almost made me quit. I had that "I'm never going to be able to beat this game" but I just didn't give up and beat it. I am not very good and Sekiro doesn't have many cheeses for bosses.
      Demon of Hatred filtered me.
Also Darkeater Midir. Sorry for off topic second entry,

        Anonymous

        >Also Darkeater Midir
Midir is actually the most well done dragon boss they've ever made. His attack patterns all have tells and are very deterministic. The problem is that he has an insane amount of health even for a dragon, and his resistances to everything but lightning are ridiculously high. Definitely a fight you have to retool your build for if you're not prepared

I've been filtered by this b***h so i had to use bloodhound step to finish the game. Plus i was overleveled because i was something like 150 lvl or higher
I do not consider beating her if you used:
    1. Any summons
    2. Any source of bleed
    3. Sorceries or Incantations
    4. Ashes of war(that's there i cheater)
    5. Frozen pots
    6. Perfumer aromatics
    7. Cheese starts

So i'm waiting the DLC for a rematch

Me neither, but I figured out that he just walks towards you at the start of the fight and you can pepper him with something ranged (was using black bow iirc), so what I ended up with was a smaller health pool pontiff fight which I could actually beat with what I had and had learned

It lasts so long too. During the first phase you just run near a wall to stop it but it lasts 10+ seconds in phase 2.

It's the atmosphere of souls games that filter me. I can handle getting my ass kicked, but the loneliness, bleakness and anxiety get to me after a while and I stop playing. Usually the fun of different builds and playstyles brings me back, which is why I never returned to Sekrio after bouncing off.

This was me being a moron (a massive fricking moron), way back when DeS first came out and soulslike wasn't a thing
I thought you somehow had to fight him while dodging arrows, or blocking them, so I kept dying and getting increasingly angrier because of that long run up to him
After however many deaths I thought I'd take a step back and try and figure out his attack pattern first so I ran to the back, saw the stairs, climbed it, and saw the guys firing their bows, everything after that was straightforward

Worse boss in the entire game. Hits you before it actually impacts you so the timing feels weird. If it does that running thing into the wall you can't see anything. The fricking multi-arm attack as he backs up. He just isn't a fun boss. Legit everything else in the game was fun

the only souls or like game ive been filtered by was nioh and it was that stamina regain mechanic. sekiro definitely came the closest though, i walked away from that game multiple times, once even a month, but my hardest bosses from memory would be
    >des, something not a boss probably glowy eyed knights
    >ds1, fat man and little boy
    >ds2, cant remember
    >ds3, nameless king
    >bb, bsb
    >sekiro, sculptor demon
    >er, malaria

both final bosses in the Golden Sun games filtered me. Put the game down and didn't touch it for months, only to come back to them on a whim and beat them first try. To this day I have no idea how the frick this was possible

easily the hardest boss From has ever made. The whole fight ends up turning into how to make it to phase 2 with as many resources as possible, then just praying you can do enough damage before you run out of everything. If they had pulled a Melania and given phase 2 its own full health bar no one would've ever beaten it
