ITT hard to accept truths

Prototype is a boring, repetitive piece of shit with a boring "edgy teenager's idea of cool" protagonist and an empty bland city with nothing to do the moment "DUDE GORE KILLING AND EATING PEOPLE LMAO" loses its novelty.

          >SuckerPunch doesn't want to make another Infamous

Because Infamous Second Son had a neat idea, but dipped into the episodic with First Light DLC.

Also, Smoke should've been developed more instead of spreading the ideas out to different elements which did functionally the same thing (but pulled from different resource pools).

Also, "video" as an element. My HERO / Champions group would've shit on that character so much until he rightfully killed himself like a fugly Injun token troon.

Yeah the Alex you play as does end up becoming a better person than they started out as in the beginning. I forget if that terrifying Alex direct death toll is a stat tracked in game for Prototype 1. Doesn't seem impossible since they were already doing that in GTA.

Because the entire team that worked on the first game jumped ship way very early on and as such we were left with a zombie crew who didn't know jack shit about [PROTOTYPE] that was hired by Activision solely to capitalize on the original.

actually it was a really fun free open world game
it did not needed a sequel, specially one with a black mc, that is sure to kill anything

      Anonymous

Sequel should have waited a generation or two. Coming back with a small but destructible environment, but similar gameplay, would have pretty good. But then again nothing has topped red faction guerilla in that sense, somehow.

      Anonymous

It did and does need a sequel because Prototype has a lot of potential that we didn't get to see. The first game is fun but it has a lot of issues and there are a lot of theoretically easy ways to flesh out gameplay. Unfortunately the sequel we got recycled a lot and barely added anything new or good in return.

      Anonymous

      >specially one with a black mc
That wasn't even the problem, its the fact that they 180º Mercer's character into a villain due to a fricking comic book nobody even knew it existed
Add that to Heller's personality of a brick (yeah Mercer isn't exactly better but at least it was funny) and saturday morning cartoon Blackwatch and we get that steamy pile of Prototype 2 story

        >Heller's personality of a brick (yeah Mercer isn't exactly better but at least it was funny)
They wrote a few quips for Heller which were actually kind of funny (the computers scene and eating a lot of protein), what should have happened is have Alex and Heller's personalities bouncing off of each other while fighting against a greater threat. Speaking of which, 2 would have been a fricking perfect opportunity for coop and instead we got minigame leaderboards.

People like prototype because it has a lot of school shit. It's not perfect, yes the content is repetitive. The story missions suck and are janky. The enemies aren't that interesting.

But the powers are super fun to mess around with, especially the movement abilities. Mercer's powers have a unique visual style. Having super powers and being allowed to go on a murder spree in an open world is edgy, sure, but there's nothing else like it.

Did anyone genuinely think Prototype was a great game past 2010?
I mean I had some fun with it, but it was really obviously a really shallow game - even for an open-world one - and really just interesting because of how fricking BLEAK the industry was at the time?

Yeah, it was stupid, edgy, shallow, and the world was really bland, but it was the Halo and CoD era, so anything to even slightly switch things up was welcomed.
I can't really imagine ever going back to this game, and I don't know anyone else who would consider it some kind of actual classic. It was the videogame definition of popcorn of it's era, which coincidentaly was the worst era in gaming history.

Hulk Ultimate Destruction is still the best game featuring that character outside of the Ultimate Alliance entries. The studio who did Hulk:UD also made Prototype and the work put into their "Web of Intrigue" entries pulled me into the plot more so than any of the overworld action in Prototype. It might have worked better as an RPG instead of Grand Theft Shuggoth.

      Anonymous

The game being Grand Theft Shoggoth is what makes the Web Of Intrigue that much better for me. In the game, you just run around gutting everything you see without stopping to think about it but the WOI makes you look like a horror movie monster (that you rightfully are) ala John Carpenter's The Thing which I assume was intentional.
