Found these old comments on a GSC OST video. It's kind of intriguing looking back at these comments nowadays.

I miss when Luvdisc was the worst-looking Pokémon people could complain about.
>Emoticons
SOUL
Yeah but those people were wrong, meanwhile when I say new Pokemon look like shit I know I'm right
I’ll see you in 2034 then
Don't be silly, we are not going to be here in 2034.
Right?
I said the same shit in 2009 and im still here so who the fuck knows
>implying civilization as we know it is even going to still be around by the 2030s
Man, we're all probably going to be dead by then.
Good.
It better not somehow get even worse
People will consider Gens 7-8 the best in their designs in 10 years.
It's a nostalgia cycle
I consider Gen 7 the best ever since it released.
boomer retards jumped the gun and started saying "they dont even look like pokémon anymore" in like gen 3. they made it passe even though it's actually the case now.
You are a new version of a genwunner
This, Gen 3 was by far the most polarizing generation even just a decade ago and now suddenly people act like it was only in Gen 5 or so that people complained about newer designs which is just flat out wrong and revisionist history
People hated Rhyperior, Probopass, etc.
I still hate Rhyperior, it sucks ass.
Every culture for thousands of years has hated Probopass
The guy shitting on Luvdisc was right and even John Gamefreak agrees since they replaced it with Alomomola
This. Nobody ever fucking liked or defended Luvdisc.
I miss discussing Pokémon in YouTube comments sections between 2006-2012, the time before Diamond and Pearl came out in the West was also quite special. I remember watching videos where Japanese guys hacked in the Hall of Origin event, seeing a Level 80 wild battle was pretty mind-blowing at the time.
I personally love the prerelease gen 5 era, but that’s my zoomer side showing
Are you a zoomer or something? People have been shitting on new Pokemon since Gen 3
Kek I remember watching Jwittz or whatever his name was. I'm still subscribed to a bunch of Poketubers from like 2010-2013.
Yeah, if you look before 2019 you mysteriously stop seeing comments that say XY is bad. Weird huh?
Talking about how terrible XY were was unnecesary until recently because there were no teenage Kalos fans defending them online. It's not that weird.
the same thing happened with gen 5 and it will happen again with gen 7 and gen 8 and gen 9
Revisionism. Nobody ever said gen 5 or 7 are bad before kalos kids became old enough to type
There were definitely some typical "new game bad" posts here in gen 7, but it also definitely wasn't as common or about the "problems" the Kalos defense force chooses to attack gen 7 with.
>the Kalos defense force chooses to attack gen 7 with.
Cool I was wondering if it was just me that noticed the only people I see talking shit about gen 7 as a whole are just seething kaloskiddies,
Any sane person sees it, there just aren't as many Alola threads as others, so it isn't relevant to discussion most of the time.
lol shut the fuck up fragile discordgay. people were shitting on gen 5 back when it was first announced. even gen 3 and 4 got plenty of hate, but gen 5 was when it really started to ramp up and thus the genwunner boogeyman came about.
I was definitely posting about how bad 7 was when it first came out, and ULTRA CHANGES was pretty unanimously disliked even during prerelease
the trash bag and ice cream mon alone were enough for people to hate gen 5 for years
their right
These comments and the ones saying newer gens look even worse don't contradict each other, these games have been strictly going downhill for the past 20 years
I remember comments like these in middle school and they hit right in the nostalgia. I disagreed at the time but you could still say whatever you wanted about Gen 3/4 unfiltered without offending nostalgic fanboys or being labeled cringe. The complaints are really tame compared to today's but to be fair this was once considered GF's lowest point.
>this only got 21k views
i was enthralled with this video a decade back, genuinely surprised
some1 post the Supreme Gentleman's comment about the HGSS soundtrack please
I was going to say these comments were out of date even at the time because youtube came out way after Gen 3, but then I realized Youtube was founded and thrown online in 2005 and RSE came out in 2003. That's pretty close, actually.
But then I realized those comments were from 14 years ago (2009) and was like, "Wait, no, I'm still right. That shit was way out of date." Looked it up again and figured out DPPl came out in 2007, so no. I was wrong again, mother fucker.
I think I'm officially getting to the age where I can't keep what's old and new straight anymore. I remember a time when youtube didn't exist and the internet was a wild west of bad opinions and videos. One where you had to actually search for them. But that part of my brain tries it's best not to cross with Pokemon release dates. It feels like I was younger when 3rd gen came out for some reason and much older when 4th gen was released. And youtube doesn't feel like it was so far back in there. Jesus I feel old.
It never hit me how old Youtube is until I remembered when so many people made jokes about how videos at the time couldn't be longer than 10 minutes.
when you were in the last battle of a tournament in the late 2000s and the sick gundam wing midi hit
(nobody remembers this and im not entirely sure it ever worked properly anyway)
I remember being so disappointed with gen 3 in 2003. But now those mons look fantastic compared to gens 4, 5, 6, and 7. I will admit i like a lot of the gen 8 & 9 mons. Too bad the last fun game to actually play was BW/2
Don’t worry, this isn’t reddit. You don’t have to force yourself to say BW2 isn’t bad in every post.
If you think any game that came afterwards was better then you are out of your mind
Last time I checked in SV I wasn’t forced to do a retarded hollywood minigame tutorial then railroaded by NPCs the entire game, so I’d say that makes it better by default.
Unbelievable. This board isnt even reddit level midwit it's straight arse-wit.
>doing nothing but mashing A while you get guided down hallways by NPCs the entire game is fun guys, trust me, this somehow isn’t the same slop as the games after it because….uh…reddit said so!
Clearly haven't actually played the games. No point in arguing with some troll who "prefers" nu-Pokemon.
Clearly you haven't because that anon is objectively right. Gens 5 - 8 are all hallway simulators filled with 90% dialogue spam and 10% gameplay.
>b-but unova has s-side areas!!
Maybe so, but that doesn't mean the MAIN CAMPAIGN isn't a fucking boring slog.
Gen 9 is fucking shit but I can at least give it credit for not holding your hand through a linear theme park the whole way through.
Gen 5 is the last to actually play like a Pokemon game. Minor nitpicks are in every gen. But the last four gens might as well be considered spinoffs
>Gen 5 is the last to actually play like a Pokemon game
Except it's closer in style to Gen 6 than to Gen 4.
Now what?
> Gen 5 is the last to actually play like a Pokemon game
In what way? Can you actually explain how this is true in any objective sense or are you just going to deflect to crying about boogiemen once you realize your point is retarded?
Arceus was better than Gen 5.
Genwunner here. Only retards think the Gen 3 OST was bad. It was every bit as memorable as Gen 1-2 with unique themes for the rivals, legendaries, and villains. That was a huge improvement over the GB games.
this is the best video ever made
>normalfags hate gen 3 and 4
Not surprised
Here's a trick: in YouTube, you can add "before:[year]" to the end of your search query to only show results from before that year. It yields some interesting results.
As far as we know, this is the oldest Pokémon-related video ever uploaded to YouTube, on the 12th of August 2005, almost 18 years ago: https://youtu.be/8tk8LcQMhAI
What a wild ride, thanks anon
There's some channel called "Alpha Spade" that posted vids of messing with RBY with GameShark or w/e back in 2006 or so. Kino as all hell from what I remember.
I remember that time very well.
Gen3 came out just after the end of the Pokemania when most children who played Pokémon Red and Blue and strongly associated them with their childhood started to consider themselves too old to play those kind of games.
The games weren't worse, the designs weren't worse, it was all about nostalgia.
Virtually everyone started to shit on gen3 except the younger fans who where too young to play gen1 and 2. For those, Gen3 was considered the best while gen 4 was the start of a decline.
Then a lot of the older fans who let go of Pokemon during their teenage years came back to the series, as young adults, with Platinum or gen5, those are the boomers that generally enjoy every new game because they understood that what was so good about the two first gens was the time period in which they played them, not the games themselves.
>The games weren't worse, the designs weren't worse, it was all about nostalgia.
Maybe they weren't objectively worse, but saying it was all nostalgia is retarded. Tajiri was no longer the director in Gen 3 and things were taken over by Masuda who had his own ideas of where the series should go. Sugimori was also beginning to noticeably shift his art style. Pokemon had a different feel, and while it may not have been inherently better or worse, there were bound to be people who liked the old feel of Gen 1 and 2 who didn't like the shift in direction.
OP, could you post a link to the video?
Bump
Look at Gen 3 in context. Removing the day-night cicle, the original 151 barely in the game, no other region to explore… after GSC, it was pretty disappointing and also it had ugly graphics
You also couldn't transfer your Pokemon from Gen 1-2 forward. Gen 3 was the original dexcut and it did suck at the time. Most zoomers are only familiar with Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby, which are much better games than the shit show that was Ruby and Sapphire.
I don't think people realize the simple fact that "but they were coded in the game!" didn't matter for most kids. At the end of the day the vast majority of us just did not know how to get access to the monsters and we lost interested
Probably was a huge factor driving Gameshark/Action Replay sales at the time.
Late millennial/early zoomer here, first game was Sapphire. How did people who grew up with gen 1 and 2 feel about FRLG on release? Was the reception positive or negative? Or were you just so over Pokemon at that point that you didn't give a fuck one way or the other?
Personally my feelings were "Ugh another GBA game that is an old game remade?" since by that point the GBA library already had a few of these, I would not know what other reactions were to it though because in my school Pokemon kind of died after RS dropped. The next time I ever saw anyone talk about Pokemon was when a new kid years later brought his NDS with Platinum, so quite a wide gap. I think it would be fair to say that around here Pokemon kind of went into a form of "steady but quiet" existence until Pokemon Go happened and brought it back full force to a point where even my normiest of cousins bought a Switch for it.
A mix of "a remake already? it hasn't even been 10 years", "great, they cut our bros just to make us buy another game" and "neat, gen 1 in color and not as glitchy", I'd say. Also, people were really irked by it being Leaf Green and not Water Blue.
>How did people who grew up with gen 1 and 2 feel about FRLG on release? Was the reception positive or negative? Or were you just so over Pokemon at that point that you didn't give a fuck one way or the other?
I was still into Pokemon at that point. I thought FR/LG was a cool idea but I didn't really like abilities and natures and the way they made Kanto so forested everywhere when it was always meant to be the opposite, with Johto being the rural region. I also really disliked the way Red looked in the game. For me, I didn't start losing interest in Pokemon until Gen 4.
>complaining about the soulful Skymin
Bad taste.
New thing bad has always been around
That's because sequels and remakes usually are complete shit. At some point whoever created the original already said and did everything they wanted to and from that point on it's just being phoned in for shekels.
Cringe take. Sequels are amazing.
I miss the old days of pokemon youtube. Marriland and SuperSkarmory lets plays, Movie Maker AMVs, obviously fake "how to catch Darkrai/Arceus/Mew" videos, everyone irrationally hating gen 5.
Kanto and Johto fans have always been genwarring nostalgia addicts. This shouldn't be news, but somehow is every few years.
they're n*rmies
