The Dusk Ball was originally planned for Gen 2 as an Apricorn Ball. It was called the Night Ball though. It was replaced with the Fast Ball late in GS's development.

Also, the Love Ball was originally intended to work differently. In the final versions of GS, it (is supposed to) have a higher catch rate on Pokémon of the opposite gender to yours, but originally it was planned to have a higher catch rate on Pokémon favoured by Kurt. These Pokémon were: Sandshrew, Sandslash, Paras, Parasect, Slowpoke, Slowbro, Geodude, Grimer, Muk, Exeggutor, Lickitung, Jynx, Magikarp, Porygon, Elekid, Granbull, Unown, Norowara, Bellossom and Mankey. Interesting to note that Parasect, Exeggutor, Porygon, Elekid, Granbull and Bellossom can't even be found in the wild in GS.

Another funny GS beta fact: the Charcoal was originally named "Sacred Fire". Which explains why the Miracle Seed and Mystic Water have the names they have. It was quickly changed to Charcoal when they remembered what Ho-Oh's signature move was called.

        Anonymous

This can't be right, the charcoal is given to you by characters that use Farfetch'd to cut down trees in the forest for charcoal, and is tied into how you get cut.

        > Charcoal Kiln
        > We let our FARFETCH'D fetch branches for charcoal!

          Anonymous

No it's not. You have to go back to their house to get it after you get the Farfetch'd back. It's likely when they changed it to Charcoal they saw the connection with Azalea Town and quickly put it in the Mart and as a gift from the Farfetch'd guy.

From Generations II to IV, there was a type that existed for Curse, Eggs before they hatched, and if a Shadow Pokemon in the GameCube games had a non-shadow move that it couldn't use called ???.
What's notable is that Arceus actually has an unused form for this typing. However, it will still act as though it were a Normal type since Arceus' coloration is purely aesthetic and it's typing is actually determined by Multitype.

Yeah, you can easily prove this is a lie thanks to the disassembly

        https://github.com/pret/pokegold

Look for any mention of it in the code. Use the search bar. It doesn't exist. You can't lie about hidden content in these games anymore because literally every single piece of code has been picked apart and documented.

This takes me back to the days of that "buriedalive" creepypasta which claimed cutscenes in RBY were Adobe Flash animations (.swf) and somehow people actually believed it. Without a complete disassembly it was harder to disprove (even though it's so stupid it should have been obvious)

This has also already been addressed - AWH is not in every single cartridge that was released. It is in select copies of the game.

In GSC, the nurse in Fuchsia City PC is the only nurse in the game that looks different from others

In HGSS, the pond behind a PC in Cherrygrove generates different encounters depending on which side of the pond are you on. If you're on Cherrygrove City side, the pond contains sea Pokemon like Tentacool, but if you enter it from route 31 you will only find fresh water Pokemon like Poliwag

It's true, the pond is halfway between Route 30 and Cherrygrove City.

What I find weirder though is that there's a small patch of land at the end of the pond with headbutt trees that is completely in GSC. It was a nice touch to make the pond accessible in HGSS.

Apparently, in Ruby and Sapphire, if you trade a Pokemon that knows Dive prior to going to Steven's House, you can skip going there entirely. Beating the League and reading Steven's Letter for Beldum afterwards has an added part about taking Dive's HM as well, and there will be two balls on Steven's table. In Emerald, this was changed so you have to do the stuff at the Space Center first.
Haven't tried this out yet but I suppose I'll try that out when I have the time.

In Red and Blue, it's possible to softlock the game by using up all the money you can possibly obtain before entering the Safari Zone, making it inaccessible and the game unable to progress without the false teeth item.
In Yellow, this is remedied by allowing you to enter for free with one ball if you have no money. There's a whole series of new text from the entrance clerk initially refusing then relenting.

It's probably just a bug that they never bothered to fix. The everstone works in GSC, and in Gen III there's *another* bug that causes all four of the original trade evolutions to lose their held item no matter what when traded, and then evolve anyway.

Immunity is one of many moves and abilities that appeared in the TCG before the games. Snorlax from Jungle had it in the Japanese version; in English, it was called Thick Skinned.
After Immunity was introduced in the games in Gen 3, the English TCG still renamed it, but as Thick Skin until Gen 6. Even Pokémon who can't have it in the games such as Roselia, Persian, and Raticate have it in the TCG. In Persian's case, this may be because Immunity in the TCG prevents all special conditions, not just poison, and thus overlapped with Limber, which didn't appear in the TCG until Gen 8.

In GSC Will's chamber is Ice-themed even though he's a Psychic-type scpecialist. The leak of Spaceworld 99 demo has finally shone the light on his curiosity - several months before the release Will didn't exist yet and Lorelei was supposed to reside in that chamber. She's also received a brand new sprite that was used as a base for Karen's sprite. Considering the beta was built in August and the game was released in November, this makes Will and Karen very late additions

You missed the memo about all games are canonical. The games you place create the version of the Pokemon universe you play in. For instance:
                >R/SS/AS/Pt/W/2/X/US/Sw/V is a universe
                >B/C/E/Pt/W/2/Y/M/Sw/V is a universe
All the games are canon and the only rule for what constitutes a universe is how you can't mix BW and B2W2. Those have to match for coherency.

        >This internal spreadsheet of Pokedex information includes exactly one Pokemon that isn't in the final games. Its name, Lizargun or Lizargan is clearly a reference to Charmeleon (Lizard) and Charizard (Lizardon).

        >Like both, it's known as the Flame pokemon. More bafflingly, it has the "COMP" form, which is shared only by Pokemon that consist of combined things: Dugtrio, Magneton, Exeggcute, Weezing, Metagross, Combee, Cherubi, and Probopass*.

        >All other data seems to be placeholder.

The person who put this out did make a big misunderstanding though:
        >I have absolutely no explanation for this. I find it hard to believe that "multiple charizards/charmeleons combine to form a big gun" was under serious consideration as a Pokemon, but what else could this be?
The name's in Japanese, so you can just look it up and "gun" (軍) (Pronounced more like "Goon") means "Army." So it's "Lizar Army," which is definitely a believable name for a comp Pokemon of Charmeleon akin to Magneton or Dugtrio.

Damn I wanted a Charizard/Gun hybrid that was Fire/Steel. Probably too spicy for a CERO A rated game though.

          Anonymous

I'm guessing from the 'COMP' tag that it was going to be a multi-headed Charizard - basically a hydra. that would have been badass.

That's almost definitely intended to be the English "gun" and not Japanese "軍" - the later would be written as グン, but the name is ガン

to be clearer, グン is gu-n, while ガン is ga-n
the latter is what lizargun uses, and is how they would transliterate the english word - e.g. bullet seed, "seed machine gun", タネマシンガン, ta-ne-ma-shi-n-ga-n

                Could also be Lizargon, honestly

then it would be ドン like lizardon (リザードン, ri-zaa-do-n)

        >Is there a reason for this?
Because "baby pokemon" as a mechanic has been phased out of the TCG, and the only "Baby Pokemon" to get cards since the early Diamond and Pearl sets are some of the Johto baby mons that each got a card during HGSS block. The main issue with them is that they need some kind of way to evolve into other Basics, and there's no real incentive to actually do so (pic semi-related, why evolve into Electabuzz from a weak 40HP Elekid who then won't be able to evolve into Electivire until the next turn anyway, why not just play Electabuzz as a basic?). The latest ones in HGSS (aside from a single Japan only Pichu) are all incapable of evolving anyway, and have an ability that protects them from damage and effects of attacks while asleep, and also has an attack that puts them to sleep.

The only real exceptions are "baby" Pokemon (Pokemon at their lowest stage of evolution that can evolve into a Pokemon that can breed, but can't breed themselves) that were introduced in the same generation as their evolved form like Riolu, Toxel and Togepi, because the TCG introduced them as Basics and their evolved forms as Stage 1s.

the ability cute charm has the overworld effect of making you nore likely to run into pokemon of the opposite gender, provided the cute charm 'mon is in the lead of the party.
however, in gen IV specifically, it does this by choosing one of 25 different personality values (basically controls the mon's shininess, nature, gender, among other things), one for each nature, rather than reroll until it finds a shiny of the opposite gender.
what this essentially means is that with the correct trainer ID and secret ID (a hidden value attached to your save used in calculating shininess and furthering the uniqueness of your save), cute charm can boost your odds of finding a shiny in the wild from 1/8192 to something like 1/20.
you don't even need to cheat in order to get the desired TID/SID, since iirc it's determined by your system's date and time when you create your save. it requires pretty good timing and a few third party programs to find the desired TID/SID and help with timing, but attaining them in-game is perfectly doable without hax.

His party is identical to the repeatable Cheren fight, however he will always have Serperior regardless of the player's starter choice.
Unlike Cheren, Green Cheren is much more brash and outspoken. He was likely removed from later revisions of the game due to his post battle dialogue stating his intense hatred of the LGBT community.

Remember the the theory about Will and Lorelei being the same person.

I don't think of this as really being all that weird, but conversation with other people over the years has made me aware that not everyone actually knows about these: Invisible PCs. In first gen there are a bunch of PCs available in the world that are just invisible. The easiest one to access by far is the one in the Celadon Hotel, it's just there. You can walk right up to the ghost computer and use it if you want.

I can vouch for this one, as I used to use the Celadon one all the time after I stumbled upon it accidentally. I suspect it has something to do with that half of the building being literally copy/pasted from the right half of the standard Pokemon Center interior map. It should also be noted that the invisible PC has no collision data, so it's not that the PC itself is invisible so much as the thing was removed but the interaction node was left in place.

Heatran is known as Hellfrog in the west, but is considered wienerroach-themed in Japan.
Heatran's "eyes" are mimicry. They do not change for things such as emotion or sleeping.
Heatran has both male and female versions, but cannot breed at day-care centers.
Heatran's Pokedex entries are extremely mediocre for a Legendary Pokemon. Some interpret this to mean Heatran's status is from human deification. It is extremely powerful in battle regardless.
Heatran has 5 quad resists. This makes it absolutely horrible in Inverse Battles.
Heatran can learn Bug Bite by Move Tutor. This makes it the only one to not be Bug type, in the Bug breeding group, or have a setting of preying on Bug-type Pokemon.

Source code leak revealed that an earlier version of this map had a staircase in the middle (leading to the entrance at Route 7 that was ultimately scrapped).

There's an old Japanese supplementary novel for the series that states that Charizard's maximum altitude is known because they found out that one shit on the top of Mt. Fuji.

That was in the zukan, not a novel.

Suns and Moons and ORAS and RSE were also stated to be apart.

I learned recently that MissingNo. is actually data for some Gen 2 Pokemon. Sneasel being one of them. The leak from 2020 proved it since it was known there was 190 pokemon in-development, but the rest got cut. Since you can still find data supporting this even if you trade some pokemon from gen 2 back to gen 1. This is further supported by the data leak because the gen 2 beta sprites where in the Red/ Blue source.

Yes, but no actual gen 2 Pokemon has a corresponding MissingNo in gen 1 that was meant to be exactly the same Pokemon. Even GameFreak themselves didn't have an idea what gen 2 Pokemon were supposed to be, looking at how the entirety of Spaceworld 1997 dex was shelved, and even 1999 prototypes still had oddballs that didn't make the cut, and some Pokemon kept being updated even after release (namely Sneasel and Raikou)

I guess the better way to phrase would be 'these are pokemon that were cut or reworked for later.' Because you can see pokemon that were going to be in gen 1, but were then going to be used for gen 2, like the tiger and the drill squid.

Hey guys, did you know that in terms of male human and female Pokémon breeding, Vaporeon is the most compatible Pokémon for humans? Not only are they in the field egg group, which is mostly comprised of mammals, Vaporeon are an average of 3”03’ tall and 63.9 pounds, this means they’re large enough to be able handle human dicks, and with their impressive Base Stats for HP and access to Acid Armor, you can be rough with one. Due to their mostly water based biology, there’s no doubt in my mind that an aroused Vaporeon would be incredibly wet, so wet that you could easily have sex with one for hours without getting sore. They can also learn the moves Attract, Baby-Doll Eyes, Captivate, Charm, and Tail Whip, along with not having fur to hide nipples, so it’d be incredibly easy for one to get you in the mood. With their abilities Water Absorb and Hydration, they can easily recover from fatigue with enough water. No other Pokémon comes close to this level of compatibility. Also, fun fact, if you pull out enough, you can make your Vaporeon turn white. Vaporeon is literally built for human dick. Ungodly defense stat+high HP pool+Acid Armor means it can take wiener all day, all shapes and sizes and still come for more

Of the in-game trades in both Red/Blue and Leafgreen/Firered, Lickitung MARC/Namezo is the only one to have the same nickname.
GSC to HGSS has so many particulars it isn't worth trying to find a pattern. Like you have ones with same name, trades omited entirely, conflation of different trades getting the species of one with the nickname of another, ones that were different in Japanese but the same name in English...
ORAS keeps the species and name of all in-game trades, but other things like nature, item, and OT number may vary. There seems to be a correction of two trainers having opposite gender names from RS in English however.
