Is this game worth playing? It was always checked out at Blockbuster when I was a kid.

I found the gameplay tedious but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's pretty funny. At the very least if you get bored of the dungeons and drop it part way through, the intro is worth playing

I liked it a lot but it does have some jank (it was an early early ps2 title). It has some long load times transitioning between screens in towns and between the post-battle results screen and world map. The writing is pretty funny and the story is pretty unique though so I think it's worth checking out and playing through at least the second boss.

It should be "ou" for it to be king. That's clearly what they were going for though, since the meaning without the u doesn't make sense, so it is a misspell

Ar tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel

what the fuck is a Qoga

        Anonymous

Ar Tonelico has a conlang, Hymmnos. Qoga is a word in Hymmnos that means "end", because the game is the third in a trilogy.

Incidentally, "ar tonelico" is also Hymmnos and means "the one and only divine tree"

Funny thing is, the JP version has no "Qoga" in the title, and goes with a numeral and a subtitle.
Localisers made the title even more nonsensical because it was on th PS3, while previous two were on PS2.

I always found it kind of endearing in a retarded way how Japanese porn games use the game's title as an opportunity to give you the entire plot synopsis. Things like **~My Cousin is a Futanari, and Now We Have Sex Every Night Before She Goes to Bed!~** or whatever.

IIRC it's a holdover from light novels since the costumers would only glance through the titles and would very rarely read a dedicated synopsis on the back of the book

I like those shitty games on steam, they are fun shit that you waste 2 hours in delete the game and never think about it. If you ask me the title of the last shitty game I played and enjoyed I wouldn't know but I remember having at least 2 hours of fun with it.

long and plainly descriptive titles have been a trend in light novels for a few years now senpai

but vidya aren't light novels and thus shouldn't be marketed as such

i don't think it's unreasonable for a videogame that is evoking light novel style tropes to also have a light novel style title.
videogames wear their influences on their sleeves and their titles all the time.

              Anonymous

maybe, but in this particular case the title had to be squished into a tiny box for the cover, it's out of place

                Anonymous

which is something light novels also do.
to begin with, japanese fans never read a full title out loud no matter how long or short.
                montster hunter is "monhun"
maji de watashi ni Koi shinasai!! is "majikoi"
kono subarashii sekai ni shukufuku wo! is "konosuba"
                so on and so forth.

the finer print on the game's cover is all subtitle anyway, the main title is the shorter one in larger text.

frankly i don't think you know enough about graphic design, japanese market preferences, videogames, or light novels to be having this conversation.
