You clearly haven't beaten A20. I'm an A20 player and achievements don't requires Ascension so I can do any of them first try (unless it's something like feed on the heart that requires a specific rare cars that you might not be able to get)
I've tried getting into this game but just didn't find it funny at all... Won several times with main character and a few times with the other ones except silent because I didn't like that guy.
I'm not baiting, tell me what I'm missing
You aren't missing anything. All that's left after beating it with each character is doing it again over and over at incremental stages of artificial difficultly.
Its one of the laziest replayability mechanics in a "roguelike" but people addicted to deckbuilders can't get enough of doing the same exact thing forever.
When running Defect, focus cards just refuse to drop with the orb expansion card and creative AI. There must be some hidden mechanic to exclude certain cards. Most of the drops are crap. I just wanna go full autism with card combos but the game seemingly wont let me
If it has: >procedurally generated levels >character death sending the player back to the start >loot system designed around making each run distinct
then it's a roguelike. The genre puritanism is so fucking weird. What is added to the world by being so strict about a genre definition?
Just finished ascension 7 with Watcher today, couldn't beat the heart so I went my own way, as a blasphemer.
For whatever reason, despite being a very fun character to play, I struggle to go as far as I did with the others (13+ ascension)
Watcher must be the yin/yang one then. Yeah, she's the hardest but there's definitely a rhythm to playing her and once you get into it, it gets easier. I'd argue watcher has the best power cards overall though.
Being able to turn a bad start into a W is what separates a good player from a great player.
Dawg, I'm ascension 18, I'm pretty happy with my skill level. I've got 500 hours on record with this game. I doubt a fraction of a percent of people get to that point in this game.
What I'm saying is that it's not "artifically hard" it's an accurate test of skill at high ascensions. Slay the Spire is one of the rare gems that actually does insane difficulty right, and I'm not gonna let it be slandered by a casual who only wins on lucky runs.
Also, 6.4% of players have the ascension 20 achievement, so more than one out of every twenty StS players went further.
So around ascension 14 when you get that curse card that you can't remove or exhaust which fucks some of the best early-game builds for ironclad. You think that's doing difficulty right?
Yes, absolutely.
That curse card is absolutely a huge burden that fucks up a lot of potential strategies. It's really hard to deal with. A small change that requires you to completely reorient all of your strategies. At the same time, it's a very knowable obstacle. It's predictable. It's possible to work around.
That's what difficulty looks like when it's done correctly.
Which one's watcher again? I've played this game so much I've forgotten all their names.
I'm on average around ascension 17-18. I don't think it's reasonable to fight the heart beyond ascension 12ish.
Also around that time the game basically just starts to feel artificially hard and your runs become way too overreliant on luck and early gambits to steamroll later. Takes a bit of the fun out of it. Like, I'm best with dagger/poison dude but at ascension 18 you are so fucked from the start that it's almost impossible to keep you're meager fucking healthbar up.
I'm playing the downfall mod now, don't know of that changes things but I think I'm about tapped out at asc. 17-18.
There's no such thing as a bad start StS, there's only >please stop trying to give me Catalyst for the nth times I haven't seen a single poison card today
What ascension level are you on? Whho's your best class or w/e you call them? Who do you think is the most "fun" to play?
Been playing the absolute shit out of this game for the last couple of years and this is the first I've seen of it on this board.
it's too difficult
Too much rng, I have beaten it on ascension 20 and I can't be bothered to get all the achievements because they're so rng based
It is a great game though
>list foundational reason why the game works
Nah they should change that. A20 btw
idk what you're saying
You clearly haven't beaten A20. I'm an A20 player and achievements don't requires Ascension so I can do any of them first try (unless it's something like feed on the heart that requires a specific rare cars that you might not be able to get)
you totally misunderstood my post
i'm saying i don't want to farm getting a deck where i can get 999 armor, etc
I've tried getting into this game but just didn't find it funny at all... Won several times with main character and a few times with the other ones except silent because I didn't like that guy.

the non ascension difficulty is literally the tutorial mode for other games.
Think about your first introductory match to a moba.

It’s amazing that, after all the runs I’ve done, I’m still finding new synergies.
Also A15 is the sweet spot for fun and challenge
Thats what I play on.
I'm trying to get a 70%+ WR with defect before I move on.
I don't know how to play this
Permadeath filtered me
I have 1600 hours in that game
So you're just starting?
When running Defect, focus cards just refuse to drop with the orb expansion card and creative AI. There must be some hidden mechanic to exclude certain cards. Most of the drops are crap. I just wanna go full autism with card combos but the game seemingly wont let me
>le kino roguelike
go fuck yourself
It's an RNG Progression Game falsely shilled, by retards who have no clue what an actual Roguelike is
and? still having fun
If it has:

it makes shitheel tourists like you seethe
I've seen this schizo post in every single StS thread. How much of an insane loser is this guy?

I'd argue The Watcher is the hardest character to git gud with. Her synergies are less obvious, and you really have to improvise every run.

You're god damn right, top 10 all time for me
