The trail of blood being replaced with a trail of purple goo is awful.

Sephiroth turning into Jenova should have been way more shocking, same as Barrets "death".

The party spent what felt like an hour boo hooing over Jessie and had no response to the events at Shinra HQ? It took me out instantly. I hope to god they do better with rebirth. I love OG FF7 so much...

Remake feels like a Final Fantasy VII theme park ride. It's got all of the familiar stops, but minor things are given more importance for no real reason other than "Remember THIS?!"

    >Guard Scorpion goes from being yet another Mist Dragon knockoff boss to some big spectacle piece that blows up the reactor it's defending
    >Hell House goes from being a weird random enemy to a major boss in the story

It's just a lot of weird fanservice decisions. I get the feeling the people writing this like the VII Compilation and want to make a product for the fans, but it's bogged down in a lot of weird decisions even before you get to the weird changes like time traveling Sephiroth and the time police dementors.

      Anonymous

Why did they decide to add fan-service stuff like those moments but then do a complete 180 on the story by adding the timeline/pseudo-timeline plot? There was no reason to go full Kingdom Hearts with the story when they already had the fans in their back pocket. They've now split the fanbase in half to the point where half of them will not be purchasing Part 2 because of it.

I've played the OG twice since I bought the remake. I haven't finished the remake yet, but I'm pretty close.

I even bought the OG again on PS5, even though I already still have it on PC and on Vita.

7 has the most interesting plot delivery off any FF thanks to using an unreliable narrator. The plot is delivered at an appropriate pace with genuinely interesting twists and reveals and appropriate buildup / suspense. Like FFX, the plot has a consistent core mission (sephiroth, pilgrimage) which drives the party on with adventures along the way, compared to other games (eg. 8, 9) which feel more like "a bunch of assorted shit happens and then there's a bad guy at the end."

It's part of FF's best-music era (FF7 to 10) that bridges the gap between the overly simplistic midi/chiptunes of the earlier games and the overworked orchestral compositions of the later games.

The pre-rendered backgrounds are beautiful and artistically diverse as seen here [...] Having a fixed camera angle (compared to the later fully-3d games) allows each scene to be presented in its best composition as if you're looking at a beautiful photograph.

The game hit a sweet balance on creating a world that is foreign but familiar, and beautifully incorporates a variety of themes into the world itself such as juxtaposition of tradition vs. progress and man vs. nature, all of which is reflected in the settings, the plot, and the music.

The big weaknesses of 7 are the 3D graphics, the controls (no true analog, some scenes have weird/unexpected directional controls because of the perspective changes), the simplicity of the combat and rpg mechanics (which is complex on its face but shallow in practice), and the varied but weak mini-games.

Pre-rendered backgrounds had so much fucking SOVL.

Except my favorite, XII, and SNES games up until VI excluding IV *maybe*. XIII is still dogshit, and the VII remake is just more of that same dogshit repackaged in one of the ugliest AAA Unreal games I have ever seen. X is dogshit too, and surprise surprise, it's made by most of the exact same retards.

This. While sometimes I would come home from school and play the golden saucer games for an hour or two, they were really simplistic and I was only playing to pass the time after maxing my characters. As someone who loves games within games, FF9 scratched that itch way better. And Archomage from MM7.

For how much I like the unreliable narrator twist, I prefer the worlds of I, IV, V and IX. The game looks and sounds good, but I don't put that nor plot above gameplay-focused titles like V and XII.
VII feels nice to play for the first time, but once you are exposed to other FF titles or even other RPGs, you will start missing whatever they had over it.

    >Kitase says that FFVII Rebirth maintains the core storytelling of Remake. Staying true to the original story, while telling it in a modern way. They added new elements while preserving the original thematic cores, albeit changing them slightly, to give them a new direction.
    >Kitase says that the questions to ask in the FFVII Remake trilogy are: how immutable is what destiny dictates? How far can we go to fight it? How much of what we do is the result of predestination? And how much is not? (everyeye, 11/13/2023)
