Nah there's always been good ones but it's not a coincidence the ones without random battles were and remain better games. If they have random battles they better be fuckin snappy.
I find that something basic like Dragon Quest where you mash attack most of the time is leagues better than the games that tried to make standard attacking more interesting. A game like Shadow Hearts is utterly ruined by its combat system where you have to play a minigame for every action including using a fucking potion lmao, where if it weren't for that it would be one of the coolest games.
But even the good games are slow sometimes. They're for kids who have hours to waste.
I like JRPGs for having original settings and rules/mechanics not inspired or lifted by TTRPGs. They might not be repayable and they're definitely more restrictive but they have better combat/visuals as well.
If WRPG devs took some cues from them like they did with Planescape Torment then they would be miles ahead.
>everyone keeps saying jrpg is shitty anime featuring twinks and big swords >literally have never played a jrpg like that >really enjoy JRPGs and prefer them to most WRPG
WRPGs have nothing going on. They either waste your time with a boring story and boring characters while actually being an action game or they are very poorly thought out cRPGs aping a tabletop system for no reason. every WRPG I have played feels insanely unpolished like it could fly apart at the seams at any moment. Even going back to the old classics everyone loves. There are still WRPGs I love but they are all buggy messes

What are you smoking, cuz' you oughta' share with me.
I see.
They started selling some clear cola in my supermarket, think it might be good?

Not only are JRPGs good, but they've always been good and they're only going to get better.

you mean like, having stories that are actually about things? man thats a dream and a half
The only wrpg I've played in my life is Diablo
most interesting and thought-provoking warpig thread
you're probably tired of having nothing to play every single year huh
why do wrpgfags spend all day seething about jrpgs lol
>why do wrpgfags spend all day seething about jrpgs lol
Because it's more fun than playing a wrpg
They don’t have any games to play that aren’t either 20 years old or a ttrpg made worse by removing the social aspects
There hasn't been a good wrpg since BG2 according to them
But BG2 was the catalyst of all the gayry.
Welcome to the Baldundrum. BG2 both was the best yet also the worst.
I play JRPG just for the cute girls.
WRPG are better but holy fuck they’re addictive. Shit can make you consume hours in front of the screen
When I first played Warband, I stayed up for 2 days straight eating little to no food. It was so good.
