AC units oversell their capabilities pretty regularly and you're looking to cool a gaming PC's waste heat too. I'd add $100-$150 to that.

No, they do not. It would be illegal for them to lie.
            Trust the science.

The science tells us that you must leave it running 24/7, not "turn it on for 10 minutes, then back off". You install it, turn it on, set your temp, turn off "energy savings" and let it run.
            Your room will be cooled.
The stated BTUs will be pumped out of the room.

You have to take in mind that in europe we mostly live in old houses that are not made for air conditioning (99% are brick houses), we need to put some holes to add tubes around and that make the cost go up a lot

A small 160 dollar window installed air-conditioner has served me perfectly well for like four years so far. I have to turn it off at night or my room hits uncomfortably cold temps.

They have standing air conditioners that you just attach an exhaust duct to and pump the hot air out a window

Brick houses can have air conditioning just fine what the frick are you talking about. Drilling a small hole so the tubes can pass through the concrete isn't very hard or expensive. I know because we installed them in my house around 7 years ago, and I assure you it's not a cardboard wall like american houses.

Costs me 1500€ to get 4 of them installed before covid. 1 in the living room and 1 in each bedroom. What actually cost the most was paying the tradies to do a good job in a single day and not the 4 daikin + their 4 extractors.

They're migrating because their governments are shit, their economic prospects are shit, their countries are instable and undergoing war, and most of all, they want the same living standards as Western countries. Actually, it's the last one more than anything.
The only people who are moving because of climate are people living on islands that will disappear under water if the sea levels rise too much. Which is an insignificant portion of the overall population migrating toward the West.

It's a combination of outside actors like Russia and internal actors like the fossil fuel industry (and again revolving to outside actors like Saudi Arabia) that ultimately have done everything to kill nuclear power in the West because it means the West isn't reliant on fossil fuel from the outside. I'm sure if you follow the paper trail of those activists and lobbyists that pushed for the death of nuclear power, it'll tie back to parties with interests in pumping Middle Eastern and Russian fuel into Europe. Chernobyl and Fukushima just make it easy for them to push their case while ignoring how Three Mile Island didn't blow up into a catastrophe because the West actually has (or had) standards for their nuclear plants.

Are you talking about only Germany or what? Their neighbor France use nuclear for 75% of their electricity needs.

I just got a new case today. The 4000d. So happy to see my new GPU idle is 39C when it was 48C before.

It rises to 48C after a while though. The i7 14700KF gives me so much buyer's remorse. It just heats my pc and my room up so much. It's pretty fast but I should've known it was fast at 100C regularly and thermal throttling :/

      Anonymous

4000D is based. Are you sure you aren't running some insane power settings for the 14700KF? It should be fairly efficient when gaming. I have AMD so I don't know exactly how it works but there were news recently that motherboard makers are messing with 13th/14th gen CPUs to do better in benchmarks.

        Anonymous

It was and it wasn't. I upgraded my Bios firmware for my ASUS motherboard, and it turns out they added a "Intel Recommended Settings" and they renamed "Reset to Optimized Defaults" into "Reset to initial defaults" but changing to the new baseline it actually increased the Ampere from 280A to 307A but it keeps the Watt-limits the same at 180W for turbo and 253W for Short-term Turbo, but it HAS reduced the base voltage input to my CPU, which was supposed to sit at 1350V but it was at 1412V for some reason.

It still got too hot, immediately jumping up to 90C and rising over time when it's put in use, so I undervolted with 0.125V on the SVID and Cache and it seems to be working.

I also put my ASUS TUF card into Quiet Bios last night and did an undervolt/overclock, at 75V and 1000 Mhz Memory.

Playing Cyberpunk for a bit everything did improve and if there's a performance hit I couldn't really tell. It runs below 60fps when I have Path Tracing on, so we're talking anywhere between 5-7 fps difference and I couldn't tell.

Luckily we know that co2 is stronger than the Milankovitch cycle now.

              Anonymous

It isn't though. 5000PPM didn't turn earth into venus during the cambrian explosion and the normal CO2 concentration, in fact through several ice ages, is ~1000-1500 PPM, rather than ~400PPM today
and if you go under ~200PPM most plant life on the planet dies

CO2 concentration effect on heating also follows a logistical curve; because at the end of the day it's only absorbing a specific and particular wavelength of light and there is only so much of it that you can capture. So you don't double heating effects when you double CO2 concentration; if you're getting 80% of the energy at 400PPM, and you go to 800PPM, you can't then get 160% of the energy. Instead the CO2 now captures 85%.

And all the climate models which try to predict future heating trends acknowledge the factual reality that CO2 isn't driving any heating and instead treat calculations as a black box, with [something] driving the heating, and the CO2 just drives that [something]. These blackbox calculations are literally just made up guesswork, and their predictions have been universally wrong - always predicting more warming than what we observe in reality, which should be a huge red flag that there's an obvious bias being introduced to these models, but it's like it just goes in one ear and out the other with the redditor "trust the science" alarmists, who seem to rather want a religion more than a science

So can you explain to me why the concentration of CO2 in the recent past (<500 million years) didn't cause runaway greenhouse effects, despite being over 10x higher than they are today?
Why is it that the explosion of life on this planet has correlated with CO2 concentrations well in excess of 500ppm?
Why have we gone through ice ages with such high CO2 concentrations when this is supposed to be lethal?

It just strikes me as very peculiar that 400ppm CO2 is such a bad thing, when that's actually nearly the lowest it has ever been in earth's entire biological history and about 3x less than what's actually been "normal" for hundreds of millions of years.

By the reckoning of the CO2 cult, there shouldn't have been any life on the planet for the past half a billion years, and yet instead we find not just abundant life, but temperatures that couldn't have been much higher than today, certainly livable conditions if you teleported into the past, and multiple swings into ice ages with low planetary temperatures IN SPITE of the CO2 concentrations

In fact if you really look at the geological and biological history of the earth next to CO2 concentrations, you get the distinct feeling that CO2 scarcely has any influence on Earth's temperature trends.

So can you tell me how you expect to see lethal amounts of greenhouse heating effects in spite of the fact that we've never seen this happen, ever, in earth's history, even with 10x higher CO2 concentrations than today?

Why is it that CO2 greenhouse effects provably follow a logistical curve, with the majority of heating occurring at the lowest concentrations, and yet you believe (and want me to believe) that our atmosphere which is already absorbing in excess of 85-90% of the energy that CO2 could conceivably capture from the sunlight hitting the earth, will very soon result in runaway, catastrophic and existential warming, despite the actual fact that simple experimental measurements show if the CO2 concentration were to double, the increase to the effective energy capture of earth's atmosphere would scarcely move a single percent?

Again, Earth for most of its history has had a higher CO2 concentration than today (by 2-4x, and sometimes spiking over 10x)
And yet that didn't result in a venusian earth with all life on the planet dead. Most of the time, the earth also wasn't a jungle "hothouse" either - temperatures only a few degrees warmer than today. In fact the absolute hottest the Earth has ever gotten, is 6-14 degrees C hotter than today and that DID NOT kill all life on the planet (in fact, it was one of the most biodiverse periods of life on the planet and completely livable for modern humans).

Similarly, any farmer who runs a greenhouse can tell you how beneficial higher CO2 concentration is for plant growth, and can also explain how CO2 concentrations that fall too low (~200ppm, or half of what it is right now), will actually kill most plants.

There's no science being done by your ilk, it's politics masquerading as science, with low IQ redditors treating the "science" as if it's a religion you cannot question.

I've got no idea, but considering what little overall affect CO2 gas has on the earth's climate, I can confidently tell you your CO2 bogeyman has frick all to do with modern trends.

So if you want to make accurate warming predictions maybe you shouldn't be fearmongering about CO2 for your political buttbuddies and should perhaps get a fricking cluebat and work out what the actual driving force is.

              Anonymous

did you know you can observe the heat retention effects of co2 right

like you can get a box of 0.1% co2 and see it retains heat better than a 0% co2 box

                Anonymous

Since you're clearly incapable of reading, I'll have to repeat it for you:

CO2 greenhouse effects follow a logistical growth curve. (It's an S shape in stupid for you); CO2 concentration on x, temperature on y
This means that small amount of CO2 initially drive a large change in greenhouse heating effects, but as you increase the concentration this heating effect rapidly diminishes.

This is because CO2 only absorbs energy from a few particular wavelengths of light. You cannot absorb more than 100% of the energy the sun emits and for CO2 it only captures specific frequencies. At 400ppm, depending on wavelength, CO2 is absorbing ~90% of the energy it could possibly absorb from the sun already. If you were to double CO2 concentration, you would not get 180% of the energy captured. You get a marginal increase; instead of 90%, it might be 90.8% - in spite of the fact you literally went from 400ppm to 800ppm (something that at current rates would take centuries for us to do)

Such marginal increases in energy capture create similarly marginal increases in temperature; they are effectively the same thing.

They never fricking mention this fact when talking about CO2 greenhouse effects because if you knew about it you'd immediately see what a fricking load of bullshit the global warming alarmism is, without even needing to look at CO2 concentrations in earth's past and what deleterious effect it had on the bioshpere (none, in fact!).

Actually it looks more to be the case that CO2 has only ever helped make Earth habitable, rather than this fearmongering horseshit that 1 degree change in temperature will suddenly turn us into venus. Even with a potentially 14 degree avg hotter Earth than today, it still wasn't venus and it was still livable for modern humans.

Global warming morons don't do science, and don't question shit, they just parrot propaganda.

I don’t understand, conservation of energy says even with better cooling the heat generated by the cars will just get moved out of the case and into the room faster but the room should still heat up to the same degree over time. The only difference is whether or not your desktop is thermally throttling while the room itself is heating up, right? I guess there’s something to be said for the hot air not being pulled out of the case fast enough leading to inefficient operation and more heat generated as a result, I’m not doing some navier-stokes bullshit for this.

        Anonymous

I’m talking about the people that say better cooling inside the case means the room won’t heat up. The heat still has to go somewhere, the improved cooling affects the rate that the heat is removed from the case it doesn’t “destroy” the heat

Streaming video over wifi got really good over the years. You can get 16~ish latency (encode+transmit+decode) at pretty high bitrates so a thin client like a tablet with local usb mouse/kb is very viable.
Even more so if you do a roaming wifi network all over the house so it just picks the strongest signal at all times.

not those anons, but is it truly obsession if you talk about the loudest kid in the classroom?
You have (metaphorical) kids of all shapes and personalities, but the (metaphorical) US kid is always in the center of attention either because he does something stupid or because he's a bully that forces other kids to do as he wants.
You have a loud kid, it is only naive to think people wouldn't often talk about a loud kid.

Similarly, if you have a stage upon the biggest nations of the world stand and the rest of the smaller countries can do nothing but watch what the big ones do, why would it not be expected for people to talk about them? If you have a comedian on stage, making awful jokes during the entire show, do you call the guests "obsessed" for simply pointing out what a terrible job that comedian does?

The entire concept of national "obsession" is simply not applicable (most of the time) to large countries like the US or China.

I really don't get why /misc/-tards seem to be so vehemently opposed to believing in global warming (objectively proven by all facts & lived experience if you are even 25+ years old) You think it'd be a no brainer- further proof of the industrial revolution being a mistake, the world being overpopulated by wasteful inferior races, as well as acting as a ticking time bomb of something that demands accelerationism or immediate action NOW to RISE UP to. I guess it's because the average consumer/science man also believes in it that means they also can't? Seems a little silly to me.

I quite like the global warming arcs in some of the newer civilization style games; having a global collapse that every player can benefit or be harmed by is a go-to method for forcing an endgame while also being thematically appropriate. Endless Legend also had the Summer/Winter cycle which isn't quite the same was pretty devastating as the winter gets longer and longer as the game goes on and you basically can't grow your population at all during the time. Cool concept.

      >I really don't get why /misc/-tards seem to be so vehemently opposed to believing in global warming
It could be a genuine coping mechanism against something out of control. The big companies are ruining the world and with all their security, lawyers, lobbying, corruption, there's virtually no way one person could do anything about it. So it may be easier to the average person to simply dismiss or ignore that the world is going to shit.
