Yes. Just play till 2 and stop right there, do not touch OTR, shit is bad because it's there just to promote "HEY IT'S FRANK WEST".

The npc follower AI is infuriating in 1, gets a lot better in 2.

This. They are alot more resilient.
Dont read this if you want a pure first playthrough, but if you just bum rush to your objective your followers will easily push past zombies, if you stop moving to make sure they are safe, thats when they start to get grabbed

It might sounds weird but I actually preferred the AI in 1. They're stupid and get killed easily, but I liked it that way. When one of your followers gets grabbed you have to make that decision of will I save them or keep going? It really adds to the whole mood and atmosphere imo. In 2 I never had this problem, literally not a single survivor ever died on me or got close to dying. It was a cake walk.
That being said, 1's AI could get TOO stupid at points. I remember pointing and telling a survivor to go one direction, but instead she walks in the OPPOSITE direction where a horde of zombies are, she got fricking killed. I was absolutely furious and I actually save scummed because I was so mad.

      DR2

      >Chuck Greene is a cool guy eh

      DR2:OTR
      >frank with a camera
      >story is 90% the same save for awkward changes near the end
      >new map zone, but map was already kinda big
      >new sandbox mode, with no timer and ubisoft missions
      new lifeseeker track

They do change the mission structure around a bit, happening at different times than they did in the main game. I think they were trying to make it feel a bit more like 1 but it ended up ruining the pacing imo, OTR has so much dead air where you have no missions and nothing to really do in the free time so you just kind of stand around for a long time.

I don't like Dead Rising's gameplay very much. When it's a 'wander around the mall and act like a moron' simulator it's fine, but when you're expected to engage with the actual humans fun drops precipitously. The survivor AI is deliberately hobbled; it won't reliably cross a room to path after you. Then there's those homos in the humvee with the gay rap song. Who thought a respawning enemy like that was a good idea in a game with controls this awkward, where you have to shepherd morons dumber than a newborn chicken? Of course the overarching plot is stupid, and that these homosexual hispanics think their motivation is sympathetic just makes me want to kill them. The 'ticking clock' mechanic messes with the most fun part of the gameplay - free roaming and acting like a fool. At least the psychos are fairly fun and Jessica is frickable.

I can't really think of any other games that are as happy to tell you to frick off quite like DR1.
DR1 knows that it's being a dick and is making shit more difficult than it needs to be, and is perfectly happy with that.
Otis's calls, the respawning prisoners, purposely bullshit survivor AI, one save file, the game's proper ending involving no weapons, fists only..
All of it is made to tell you to "frick off, try again."
    And I love it.

It's been ages, anon. Besides I used a guide.
Remember running around with several mini chainsaws and the corresponding durability books.
First couple hours of playing the game consisted of farming kills down in the parking garage, leveling up Frank.

            >farming in the parking garage
you don't farm lvls by killing zombies, you boost levels by saving survivors and then farming soldiers

Yeah, the boss fight with the army guy, Brock Mason, is done completely unarmed.

Thanks anons. Kinda wanna get the "remasters" on PS4 now. Fricking sucks how Case West and Case Zero never made it to any other platform. I still got them on my old 360, but haven't used it in ages.

2: feels like sidegraded dr1 in terms of how the extra content got balanced out by the different difficulty issues
    2 OTR: fun DR2
3: casual DR, and the hardcore mode is just a speedrun mode with extra zombie damage
    4: never played it
BONUS: ex+alpha, never played it; case zero/west: never played them

and when i say DR3 is casual DR i mean DR3 is probably the most fun you could have with a DR game and it compensates for the lack of actual difficulty (the blend of fun gameplay+challenging difficulty being the staple DR experience)
