I mean there are 3 regular battle themes currently, 2 in the original. Last Surprise, Takeover (in Royal) and Life Will Change.
Royal is basically like a new game. I got as far as the fifth Palace in the original, but I bought Royal recently and it has so many improvements it's crazy. I thought it would just have a few more bits added in, but it's basically a total overhaul.
I think its a worse game, especially for a first playthrough. A lot of the improvements are genuinely cool but not actually implemented from the perspective of the enemy, like Persona passive skills. That's a cool thing to revive that hasn't been in the series since 2 but fuck if it isn't broken.
Pokemon already did this in scarlet/violet. You hear a battle version of the overworld music depending on where you are.

There's two dungeons left, unless you're going for Royal in which case there's 3 dungeons. The OG last dungeon occurs on the last day of the classic calendar so it's not that much left, Royal has a hole extra time added for its dungeon

3 is just a port of the PSP version with feMC and all that entails with some characters changed as confidant-equivalents along with other QoL perks that came with the PSP remake.
Both are decent games in their own right with plenty of detractors as well. Not remotely as long as 5 though, thankfully.
4 is totally fine. But I would caution against 3 depending on what you want.
3 has the original and its super version FES and then they made portable which basically took out interacting on the world map (like walking around school or town) and replaced with a drop down menu you just select what you want to do from. The cutscenes are no longer rendered with 3D models, it's just character stills talking over a generic background like Disgaea or some shit. I would personally recommend playing 3 on emulator so you can play FES instead. Portable lets you play as a girl and FES has the bonus campaign similar to Royal arc, but I don't think either is worth driving your decision.

Makoto is pushed as fuck, bullies her way into the party in a dumbass manner, the setup for her dungeon is the dumbest shit, and she's almost a mary sue, but I honestly don't care, because
a) her true self being a mad max biker girl is pretty based
b) she cute
c) Price is the best dungeon theme

I like Morgana and dislike Yusuke. The game came out in 2016 and every time I post this opinion I get swarmed with hate and mockery for my taste.
Most of the characters in 4-5 are pretty terrible to exaggerated for their singular gimmick - or Haru who's practically a non-entity - you have to admit.
